    I am using a Fotodiox M42 to Sony/Minolta A-mount for my vintage lenses, including the Flektogon 35mm f2.4, on a Sony A99. Good adapters.

      Does your lens seat all the way into your adapter? If not, you may need another version of the adapter.

  • @toremali6957
    @toremali6957 5 років тому

    Hi, the adapter itself does not change the lens equivalent due to its distance from the sensor? and what happens when you focus to infinity?

    • @FotodioxInc
      @FotodioxInc  5 років тому +1

      No, it will have the same lens equivalent as a full frame lens. So a 35mm M42 lens will give you the same image when adapted to a Sony E-mount camera as a Sony 35mm E-mount lens will. And this adapter does allow you to focus to infinity.

  • @mediavaper1902

    do you need to use the APS-C crop setting with this adapter? or does it still fill the frame?

      You can use it in full frame mode with no vignetting.

      @FotodioxInc  7 років тому

      Hi Orville, unfortunately it looks like that type of lens is only part of an optical system for a for a Zeiss Contaflex camera, and we don't currently offer an adapter solution for it. Here's some info I found: forum.mflenses.com/carl-zeiss-pro-tessar-115mm-f4-t27774.html

    Hi there,
    Using this camera and the lens u mentioned, will the auto aperature still work if I use this adapter?
    Thanks:
    Tamas

    • @FotodioxInc
      @FotodioxInc  2 роки тому

      No, you'll have to adjust the aperture and focus of the adapted lens manually. The adapter doesn't give the camera any control of the lens.

    Hey Bohus, I just bought MIR-1B M42 mount and wanted it to work on Sony A7II. Can you please suggest which adapter to buy. Normal adapter or the Helicoid. Do Macro helicoid vignette a lot? and does it have infinity focus?. Thank you very much

    • @anandanbaskaran3142
      @anandanbaskaran3142 7 років тому

      And MIR-1B serial number starts with 89017814

    • @FotodioxInc
      @FotodioxInc  7 років тому +1

      Both will work. The helicoid will focus to infinity, and it won't vignette.

    Hi, when I try to buy from Amazon, there are two models of M42 e mount adapter, one is the model in this video (it is named pro model), another one is in different shape, but both are literally in the same price, can I ask what are the differences between two of them if there is any and which one should I get if I want to run both MIR 1 B and Helios 44-2 on a5000? Thx for any answers.

      Hi SH I, The version 1 adapter works best with M42 lenses that either have no aperture pin or an aperture pin that doesn't fully depress down when you press it. Version 2 of the adapter works best with an M42 lenses that have an aperture pin that will depress all the way down. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any further questions.

      Hi jd81,
      We don't currently offer a Praktica B to Sony E-mount adapter, but we do offer a Praktica B to Micro Four Thirds adapter, as well as a Micro Four Thirds to Sony E-mount adapter, so if your purchased both and double stacked them you would be able to adapt Praktica B lenses to your Sony camera. Radioactive?

      Possibly, but remember that the radioactivity in these old lenses is so minimal that they're not really unsafe to use.

    M42 screw mount lenses are not old. And also, you can mount any lens to any camera with the right adapter. Maybe it will only be manual maybe they make an adapter that allows for the electronic pathways to be completed. And early Zeiss glass is not even close to modern glass and the tolerances of the machines that make them.

    • @w.scholz9705

      In the past however the quality control was far better and the lens were handmade.
      today you can get 5 times the same lens and you will have 5 different results.
      And adapting an M42-lens to Canon is no problem because of the short distance from bayonet to the sensor (German: "Auflagemaß"). however on a Nikon you will not be able to focus up to infinity, because the distance to the sensor is bigger that the one from Canon.
      Using a Canon camera however you may hit the back element of the lens with the mirror of a full-frame model like a 5D II/III, 1Ds etc. when you focus on a short distance.

      Camera gear prices can fluctuate a lot depending on how much attention they get. If a lens or camera gets more talked about online, odds are the price is going up. The upside to this is that the less talked about gear can drop in price or stay cheap :)

    A terrible lack of information here as is the case with all these adapters. This lens has an auto/manual switch. In manual mode the aperture ring takes full control. At the back is a pin that an old camera will depress to close the aperture hence the auto function. This is obviously useless on a modern camera and not needed. However, the earlier (and in my personal opinion superior) zebra Flektogon does not have an auto/manual switch or at least a switch that goes into constant manual hence the pin at the back needs to be depressed. I think this adapter has a flange to depress that but the pictures are poor. Of course this flange is not needed for the auto/manual switch lenses. Then we have lenses where the flange creates a problem with the way it tries to depress the pin but these lenses often do also have an auto/manual switch so again no need for the flange i.e. Yashinons. So the way to make a proper universal adapter would be to have a removable flange. Some adapters have this but no spare washer to replace the flange washer with a no flange type. Then all these adapters should have a tripod foot because modern cameras are light and lenses with a large adapter are front heavy. Tripods should often be attached to the lens. When is somebody going to solve these issues?

      The zebra versions are, in my opinion, worse in every single way. Worse building quality for sure, not as good close focusing quality and for sure waaay worse resistance to flare, old zebra versions has no coating at all, decresing contrast way more than with the new mc versions.

      Hi, I am from Germany and I have some Zeiss Jena lenses. There are some points I should not leave unmentioned: Zeiss is not equal to Zeiss. Zeiss Jena lenses were produced in East-Germany, the "DDR". While Zeiss without "Jena" comes from West-Germany and is not only better, but also far more expensive. Zeiss Jena is not really well known for high quality although there are fine lenses that nowadays cost more and more like the Flektogon 2.8/20mm which costs around 300 EUR.
      The problem with a flange for the aperture-pin is its force. There are older M42 lenses - like many Schneider-lenses - that will become defective when the pin will be pressed to deep.
      M42 lenses without a manual/automatic switch should either not used at all or carefully tested whether or not the a fit for adapters the press the pin.
      On the other hand are there also many interesting lenses from the 50s, that have no pin at all and are purely manual. Schacht / Ulm for example has made really good lenses in the 50s. There are also many Zeiss Jena Tessars and Flektogons from East-Germany that come from the 50s and are rather cheap.
