- Salespeople take the mic (a la Da Bears' "Super Bowl Shuffle") to rap about why you should buy from Trophy Nissan in Mesquite, Texas. The dealership uses the "TROphy, TROphy, TROphy Nissan" part in its ads to this day, and it's posted a full one-minute version of the song at • Trophy Nissan Rap Song... - with a note indicating they might be bringing it back! Awesome!
I remember back in elementary school , in the lunchroom everyone broke out and sung this song.
If you grew up in Dallas in the 80s - you know this song.
are still active on this account?
I grew up in Dallas, and I remember this commercial. Definitely sticks in your mind. The guy with the shades on who cuts in still cracks me up.
Trey Thompson it came on every morning between the Channel 5 news and the Today Show when I was in 2nd grade.
Well, he’s got ever-ee-thing to take care of you
I wasn’t alive when this came out. I see where that TROPHY TROPHY TROPHY NISSAN comes from now. I found something new to annoy my wife to.
My kids asked me what was the first rap song I remembered. I brought them here.
They still use the “Trophy Trophy Trophy Nissan!!!” in their commercials now! I love it!
That little guy with the shades and the low voice couldn't look more like a 1980's car salesman if he tried.
The audio portion of this ad is currently playing on Sportsradio 1310 / 96.7 The Ticket.
That little guy with the shades was a guy named Doug Smiril, he was in the Boz Scaggs band playing guitar and keyboards on Boz's first 2 albums, he also taught Boz to play guitar in high school at St. Marks where they had a band named The Marksmen including the legendary Steve Miller. He was an extremely talented musician. Boz's record company replaced the original band members including Doug with the studio musicians / guys from Toto.
These guys had major beef with Westway Ford!
Yeah it was!
I'm now picturing something akin to the melee from "Anchorman."
The dude with the huge sunglasses with $$ on them, lmao!
Wuh-wuh-wuh-west-way Ford. West-way Ford!
SaveF9 bow bow. Not wuh wuh
I can still sing this and the Dallas Times Herald Classifieds theme as well

How I remember this growing up here n Dallas. Looking back they probably were spoofing the Chicago Bears SB shuffle. They still use that 'trophy trophy trophy' n some of their commercials today. My fav line: 'you can by it from a lady, u can buy it from a guy!'
Good old times when there were only 2 genders
Hahaha!!!
OMG thats seriously my father. You gotta be kidding me
Was it Lonnie?
Wow..the good ole days.
Lol I drove by Trophy Nissan today and started singing this. My wife and son looked at me like I was nuts 🤣🤣🤣🤣
My dad was/is still and investor in the group and sad when this came out, it worked wonders.
was watching a GTR documentary and they included this and INSTANTLY recognized it from my hometown :P
Y'all remember driver select? I used to hear that every summer and spring break with my cousins in Dallas.
Im from Mesquite, grew up there, and as much as I despise rap, this commercial was always hilarious ! My brothers and I would jump up off the couch and started acting like rappers 😂
Lol!
Dallas Texas in the house!
D/FW STAND UP!
Thang! 30 years and still stick in my brain. Even you grew up in Fort Worth.
It’s still played today, so that definitely helps.
They still play it to this day.
*Top 10 Rappers Eminem was too afraid to diss*
Wow. Almost thirty years old and it's still funny. Miss you uncle Cecil.
I remember him.
I wrote that tune. Long story but I knew the VP at Trophy and she used to laugh at my ansering machine messages. She asked if I could write a funny promo for Trophy. This was the result.
This was produced in the 80's by Boz Scaggs' guitarist and pianist from the 70's, Doug Simril, who was working as a salesman at Trophy Nissan at the time. He's the guy flipping his sunglasses in the video.
Here's Doug's guitar work from 1971: ua-cam.com/video/71n4RsoJYIQ/v-deo.html
That's him on the upper left of the album cover.
this is my grandfather! lol
I actually have some of his unreleased/unfinished tracks from these days I ripped from an old 24track Ampex tape:

White guys rapping was never cool. Except Eminem.
its atcually not so bad.. but i cant deny it is cultural apoopriation
No such thing exist. We could say blacks to go back to wear leaves instead of underwear since this is cultural appropriation according to you and some other mentally ill people.
