The exact comparison of two used 5 strings I have the choice of here. I just want an inexpensive 5string to try out. My 4 string herd of basses is complete, so I don’t want to go to spendy on this 5 string idea… so thanks a ton man, for your well done comparo here
Well the Stingray is a active pickup and active EQ so of course that is going to be louder then the Yamaha because the Yamaha is Passive. Big difference in the two basses right there. You should do this video again with regular bass strings on the Yamaha and not tapewounds.
Thank you! I prefer a maple neck but it’s more for looks rather than feel. Most of my instruments have been rosewood. This truly isn’t an apples to apples comparison since the Yamaha has tape wounds on it but I plan to revisit the Yamaha sooner than later. Also, the Yamaha has passive pickups which I also prefer. Less to go wrong.
How much do you think the strings made a difference? I would expect the round wounds (I assume) on the Stingray to sound brighter than tape wounds. I like the comparison either way, thanks for posting!
Slightly unrelated, but... What wireless system are you using there? I understood a lot of these small systems have issues with active electronics, but this one obviously works fine with the Stingray
It's the Lekato. It works pretty well. I would actually trust it on stage but was unable to test it during my last gig quite some time ago. I bought it from Amazon. I have the link in the description.
Thanks for asking me to clear this up! A while back, a viewer commented that he had the same bass and I had the model number wrong, so I quickly changed it without doing the research but it turns that it must have been a BB235 that I was playing in this video. They look interchangeable. I just checked around through google and everything is pointing to BB235, so I will just change it back to match the details baked into the video.

Nice playing, bro! Thanks for the review of two brands I like.
I would blame the tape wounds for the lack of high-end and low output. I had some once and they are very low-end heavy and not bright at all.
I believe you're correct. Time for a follow-up!
Agree with tape wounds most likely being the culprit, plus the SS’s maple neck and active EQ will be brighter.

Good point!
Hi thanks for this video. Do you prefer the maple neck on the stingray or a rosewood and why? Thanks again exactly what I wanted to watch

Seems weird to string a store bass with tapewounds. Edit: just noticed it's second hand.

the more I think of it, the strings totally made a difference. the 4-string I tried out had regular roundwounds and it sound great!
