- My review of the highly recommended wireless refrigerator and freezer temperature monitor, the Acu-Rite 00986.
I will be using this to monitor the temperature of my RV refrigerator (fridge) and freezer.
My RV is in storage, with the fridge turned off, so the temp monitors aren't showing the fridge or freezer temps in this video.

I use the single readout model ( in the freezer) Its amazing how the temperature changes during the day.
I bought one you are showing and temperature readings were about 7 degrees different .
Thanks for watching. I've seen some drastic variations in temperature on a really window day, which was odd.
I have the same issue: Refrigerator temperature is off by about 8 degrees. I verified this with 2 separate spring type thermometers. This is the second unit with this same issue, right in a row.
New viewer, DB. Some good info presented in a good way. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Much appreciated
Hola,se me averió el sensor 1 sabes si hay repuesto ?
Thanks for the video. I had two questions, one of which I think you answered in your video, how far away can I place the base from the refrigerator & freezer. I have a fridge & a freezer in the garage & want to put the base inside the kitchen of my house, maybe 30 feet away. The question I do have for you however, if the temperature gets lower than the setting in the freezer does the alarm continue to stay ON, and is it loud enough to easily hear? My freezer right now has an audible alarm in it but when it went off you can barely hear it unless I'm almost standing near it. Thanks for your time with your answer.
I'm not sure what the distance range is.
I haven't test the alarm function either.
Great review! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
There's a newer model and it can use seven lithium AA batteries! I purchased this one first and gave it to my son. I got the 515 model and you can see the display much better!! My son just lost an entire freezer of food!
Thanks for the info!
I've had this one about 4 years now. One annoyance is that the one of the magnets fell off the back of it. I am considering replacing this with something different, so I will take a look at the 515 model.
Does it really matter which sensor goes into the freezer or cooler?
No, they are the same.
I put #1 in the fridge and #2 in the freezer.
ALWAYS use Lithium AA batteries in the sensors. Use any regular battery in the display unit.
I removed the batteries when I am not using the fridge. I only use the sensors when I am on a trip.
I am still using the same set of batteries in the sensors 4 years later.
@@deltabravo1257 thank you
Why aren't those two sensors displaying the same temperatures?? Any way to calibrate them? How do you know which one is correct?
One is displaying the freezer, one is display the refrigerator, that's why the temps are different.
@@deltabravo1257 oh please. Both are in the same environment and thus should be displaying the same temperature. Since there is no way to calibrate the sensing units, it is fair to say neither of them can be trusted to be accurate.
I've been doing refrigeration for 35 years, and accuracy is very important when dealing with long term food preservation. Nothing I use and trust isn't able to calibrate against a known constant, e.g. crushed ice and water, which should read 33 degrees. These may be good for hobbyists, and that's ok, unfortunately not for professional use. Sorry to come across as such a stickler for accuracy, but from what I have seen of digital thermometers, well, they sell them often already activated but with a sticker across the display to hide the variations between each unit. And I find that troublesome.
Does the screen light up in dark conditions?
It doesn't have backlighting
Very informative thanks. One question if I may, is it working for you? I really need something. Thanks in advance.
Works great over the several months I've owned it. A lot of people that recommended this unit to me have had theirs for several years and have loved it.
@@deltabravo1257 Thank you
how accurate is it? I see the they are reading 2 different temps sitting right next to each other?
@@michaelmilkovich4120 No expert but could it have been the residual heat from his hand that dissipated from the number 2 sensor before he worked with the number 1 sensor?
