This recording is in the baseball hall of fame, its a classic.
As a kid in NYC we would watch the Abbott & Costello movies on Sunday morning, and during the week we had their 1/2 hour TV show. May I recommend their 2nd film "Buck Privates" not for review but just to enjoy, It was one if not their best movie, in my opinion...
These fellows started their careers on stage first, moving on to radio in the 1930's and 40's. They began their movie appearances in 1940 and T.V. in the 50's. This particular routine was rated the top rated comedy routine ever and dates back to about 1937-38 when they performed on stage. They continued to perform until 1957.
One of the greatest routines of all time, as long as Baseball is around it is timeless. They were my Dad's favorite comedians and I saw this as long as I remember, if I said I saw this a million times it would only be a slight exaggeration, HAHA. Glad to see it still being enjoyed, love the reaction.
Thank you 😊
A classic fast-paced comedy of miscommunication! The only member of the team that wasn't named was the right-fielder. Left Field was Why, Center Field was Because, and the Shortstop was I Don't Give a Darn!
What's amazing is that they did this skit from memory
They did the skit for twenty years, never exactly the same.
At this point they had only performed it about a thousand times.
Really fine reaction. It was fun watching it with you. By the way, Abbott and Costello were the highest paid act during World War II era.
I really enjoyed your reactions to this skit. Watching y'all watch it for the first time had me smiling through the whole video. Thank you
The guy with the bat had a son who drowned in a swimming pool...I learned how to swim, in part, thanks to a program he set up in memory of his son
great reaction video! love these comedy skits from Abbott and Costello...their timing is really sharp, precise, and brilliant at the same time which makes watching it really believable, convincing, and enjoyable...it's just as entertaining the 100th time as it is the first time...a timeless classic! 💯💥✌😂😄
Glad you enjoyed
{BTW Even though this skit was recorded, it aired Live, no delay. The technology did not exist for prerecorded broadcasts yet.}
"Who's on First, What's on Second, I Don't Know is on Third." And don't forget "Why is Left Field, the Pitcher is Tomorrow, the catcher is today and the shortstop is I Don't Care - NATURALLY"
CLASSIC - I LOVE hearing this again. Thank you!!!
Because is centre field.
As was stated several other times these 2 were some of the greatest to ever do comedy. At this point they had done this skit hundreds of times, if not thousands, and it is set up in such a way that if there is a small error it can be worked into the routine. So glad you both enjoyed it.
Another great abbot and Costello bit is susquehanna hat company. Yey another is niagara falls. Their bits are almost entirely shot in one take, because those bits are from their time in vaudeville (stage performances), where you HAD to get it right, every time. Their tv show was basically the end of their careers together, so they had decades of rehearsals beforehand. If you can, the show was a gem of talent, and worth watching as many episodes as you can find.
i forgot i had auto caption on and at 0:46 it says "abort and custard", and "abortion costello" and i just stated laughing so hard that i had to pause the vid. i clearly hear abott and costello, but the auto caption ai is stupid
I'm 70 now and as a little kid I would always laugh at that skit and I still laugh every time I watch it!
Great video...great reaction! They were big on TV and in movies when I was a kid. Thanks so much!
Glad you enjoyed it
This is a great episode. I enjoy listening to the full episode which runs for roughly 29 minutes. This episode “Who’s on First” also stars Marilyn Maxwell and Skinnay Ennis. Other episodes I enjoy are ‘Nylon Stockings’ ‘Thanksgiving Day’ and ‘Lion Hunting’.
👍
Your reaction to this is awesome! Keep up the great videos. Many people consider this the greatest comedy routine of all time. Another skit of theirs you might enjoy is "Loafing" - a similar play on words skits.
Thank you! Will do!
Grew up watching Abbot and Costello and definitely very funny and clean!
There are several version of this routine on UA-cam. I think this is the best one.
2:36 Boobie Barber is an inside joke between Abbott and Costello. Barber wasn't a Baseball player; he was their friend who they hired to be on set when the made the Universal movies. Barbers' role was to keep the atmosphere on the set funny, by playing practical jokes et al.
Just a classic routine. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
U both are so adorable together
Thank you
Universal released "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein," 1948 with a very informative commentary track by (I think) Greg Mank. It's a very good movie and very good commentary track. If you listen, you'll learn about Boobie Barber and the ups and downs of this comedy duo.
love how she says abbot and costell
This skit was first performed in 1945 in their movie The Naughty Nineties
i don't care how old this skit is its still the funniest routines that abbot and costello have ever done
Agree
This was a great reaction video. Keep it up.
Glad you enjoyed
Remember taking classes to learn a foreign language? This routine brings those classes to mind.
I just watched your video with Fluffy. You both are so delightful and I love your sense of humour. I had to subscribe and am now binge watching your videos. I have seen some of these videos many times but your reactions to them makes me laugh harder. Thanks :)
Thank you so much! 🥰
If I've got the facts right, Abbot and Costello had already been performing this sketch for 10 years before they filmed this show. This displays how well they knew the bit, and how well they had polished it.
15 years, the sketch came out in 1937, this was recorded in 1953. Who would have thought that this recording would still be around some 70 years later and is still hilarious?
Charming video from two fun people who know ZERO about American baseball !! BTW... even high schooler drama kids perform versions of this routine!! It is an American Classic !
You two should check out red Skelton. He'll knock your socks off. Everything he does is incredible. The ones I recommend.
Anything freddy the freeloader.
The honeymooners parody featuring Peter Lorre and Vampira.
His UN silent performance.
His glass jaw boxer skit.
Thank u for another fun video 🙏🦁 ☬ 👸 😊👌
Our pleasure!
LOL Desi's got it much much earlier than other Brits who had real difficulty understanding, plus Lou talks at 100 MPH
it first appeared in jhe movie the naughty nineties.
Thanks for sharing
FYI the guy that hands the props to them is Mel Blanc the voice of Bugs Bunny and so many other cartoon characters
Jeff Dunham did a version of this bit with Wi-Fi passwords. It’s just as funny
I bet you'd love Monty Python's Argument Clinic. It's hilarious.
Okay 👍
You are great guys keep it up 😊
Thank you so much 😀
@@YankeeRoyalReactionary 1000% agree!!
Once upon a time, a Korean baseball player for the LA Dodgers whose last name was Hu walked. The announcer said, “For the first time in thirty years, I can tell you Hu’s on first!”
if you like this, Jeff Dunham and peanut do a modernized version of it on his pandemic special.
Many believe this to be funniest comedy routine of all time.
As we say in Texas; y'all be safe.
Of course, understanding this skit requires an understnding of American Baseball, and I wonder if some foreign watchers really get it.
Love the channel, keep up the good work.
Much appreciated!
Hey, what's not to love? Good work both of you.👍👍
I've just come across you both and I like your vibe...SUBSCRIBED 👍🏻
Welcome aboard!
@@YankeeRoyalReactionary 👨🏻🦱Cheers👍🏻😎
😂 who’s on first. Yes.
I’d like to recommend Carol Burnett’s "Went with the Wind" skit for you to review. It is very funny!
Abbott and Costello were the American Laurel and Hardy. Abbott and Costello were bigger in North America, Laurel and Hardy are more well-known in Britain
L&H were a bit more popular than A&C but in earlier times, as they made over 100 shorts and 27 features Working for Hal Roach...
It is funny how accents influenced by British English education(from Ireland to New Zealand)cannot pronounce "Abbott". It is "AB-bet(or but)". Another skit you might like is from Johnny Carson called "The Copper Clapper Caper".
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it
Rehearsing must have been tough when they first made this act, I bet.
You need to watch Jeff Dunham skit about his new passwords. It is just like this one.
The Best Ever!!!
Not even 1 minute in, and I'm laughing at how the dear lady pronounces Abbott!
No offence intended, if their first language was my second language, they'd probably laugh at my pronunciations too!
It's ABBott, not abbOTT.
😀😀 Thanks for letting me know 😀😀
@@YankeeRoyalReactionary You are very welcome. 🙂
He''s paraphasing you Lou.Tony
How many thousands of hours of practice did it take for them to get this routine down - it must have been a lot, because they get it perfect every time I hear it.
Yeah Agree
So !! Who is on first base??
Who ☺️
I just have a simple question....who's on first
First 😝
@@YankeeRoyalReactionary Who
SOMETIMES his wife comes down to collect the MONEY ..but WHO gets it ? .. ^^ we all know the answer..
There are 2 rules you must follow when watching this skit. First, SHUT UP! Do not talk during the skit or you will miss the dialog. Also, DO NOT PAUSE the video for ANY reason.
