thanks for such a thorough, straightforward, and approachable walkthrough! There are plenty of videos about how "nasty" or "wild" or "mental" the BIA is. There aren't as many that actually walk through the parameters in a systematic way. It's super helpful
Came here to say this. Too many module videos are just people getting high on how far out and alien sounds they can make, it’s nice to have such a thoughtful breakdown that exposes the entire sound palette without a bias to dialing everything up to 11. I swear they should outlaw wave folders, people abuse them too much.
I watched this clip like a thousand times. And will carry on. It's so insanely packed with inspiration and made me understand this little guy a loooong way before i finally bought it. Thank you so much for that! I wish i could give you all the thumbsups i own.
Recently picked the BIA up and has quickly become my main percussion module. Thanks for reminding/explaining a few of the functions that I have overlooked.
Super helpful video, thank you so much - a great explanation and demonstration of this module - you've just pushed me over the edge to get one! Thanks so much for this great vid.
Interesting; I know it gets a lot of love for being "a whole drumkit in one" when being heavily CV'd (Eg the Rubadub video), which is great, but as this video shows, it's actually a fantastic general "drum sound" creation module and it'd be amazing to have x8 triggered by an A-157 as a full drumset.
You only can bring with you ONE youtube clip to that lonely island you have to spend the rest of yout life on? ThIS clip is my number one choice. Cant stop watching. Beautiful explaination. Awesome sequence. Stunned.
Just got this. Although I don't find the actual sound to be anything special, the range of sounds from this is what makes it what it is, imo. Complements the rest of my oscillators very nicely as well. Quite expensive for what it sounds like, but I can see this is going to be a lot of fun. Great overview by the way, which is of no surprise :)
Awesome module. Only thing to mention is you'll probably need some vcas to get a more precise modulation. Apart from that it could be made by Sauron ("one module, to rule them all").
Is there a way to work around it with eq, or is it just a part of using the module? Edit: Or would adding a quick attack vca help soften out the clicking?
The VCA solution would work. EQing may pull out frequencies you want to keep. The attack knob further to the right also works, it's just not a smooth transition between "clicking" and "not clicking" (sadly). I think this is only a minor flaw in an otherwise storming module however
sorry, I thought I mentioned it... maybe it was in the BIA video... anyway the knobs (and switches!) work as offsets. So any CV you patch to the corresponding jack is added to the knob/pot/switch position.
@ 7:00 I'm using a steady 16th note clock (probably coming from Tempi, but for a trigger/clock, source doesn't really matter) to the Trig input. I'm using that same clock to drive a Voltage Block, which is sending one sequence to the Harm input. I believe the latter parts of the video are essentially the same, but using more channels from the Voltage Block.
dang this thing is badass.. wish I could get some help getting going with mine. Ive got a dsi pro2 and synthstrom deluge to control it. bit of a noob, a bit intimidated by this beast....
No, but the Decay at maximum is pretty long, but far from indefinite. That is one of the cooler features of the Manis, however the Manis sounds VERY different. IMO, it's more of a percussive lead or percussive bass sound and the BI is more electronic drums. Both? ;)
what I dont undertand is that this module has only one out. so it can produce only one sound at the time. how is it possible then that when you connect all the cables it sounds as 6 or more different drum sounds at the same time? Even if you don't touch the module, (?). thx
If you wanted all those sounds to be heard simultaneously, then yes. But the way the module is designed, you can find all those sounds via control voltage, so using a sequencer like the Voltage Block, where you can have multiple voltages, you could sequence those sound changes. I think you could do quite a lot with just two BIA and a Voltage Block. But it’s a obtuse way to make straightforward drum patterns/sounds. If you want a more typical drum/drum machine sound and patterns, I’d go with specific kick/snare/hat modules, or an actual drum machine. The real power of the BIA is how it fluidly transform between percussion sounds, no so much “create a typical drum pattern with one module”.

Your module demos are straightforward and exactly what I’m looking for. Really loving the sound of this thing.
Hey I'm a few years late but wanted to say awesome demo!!
Are you the internet explorer?
@@8bitbrainz You're thinking of my brother. I'm the Net Surfer ;)
im also late, boomerstyle :)
@@grindedfranz later than you are :) , and very cool demo
Thanks for picking up the pace of video you are sharing.....love your style of inspiring us!

Been waiting for a good demo of the alter for a while, thanks man. Seems like a great match with the voltage block
Recently picked the BIA up and has quickly become my main percussion module. Thanks for reminding/explaining a few of the functions that I have overlooked.
Wow! Excellent demo, simple/thorough. I've seen these around lots but now it's finally something I'd like to pick up soon.
Super helpful video, thank you so much - a great explanation and demonstration of this module - you've just pushed me over the edge to get one! Thanks so much for this great vid.
Very clear video. No frills. Just the right content. Bravo.
ace, you da man
Fantastic demo. You really showed the capabilities of this module. Thanks!
freakin' brilliant. best BIA walkthrough yet, THANKS
Mine comes this week looking forward to using it!
Awesome! Thanks very much for the tour!
My god that sounds amazing especially around the 11:00 mark. I see what is next for my drum rack.
best demo of the module so far!
Cool it's a really nice module, thanks a lot to explain it so well!
Another excellent demo! I’ve been an enthusiastic BI user since shortly after it launched and am considering buying a second one.

cj1000xyu Do you have a link to that?
I did get 2. It is great! I found a good use for my Z8000 with them
very cool cheers for the review im convinced!
Sounds amazing.
Outro jam was top quality!
Thanks! If you liked that, check out this one - ua-cam.com/video/newUFjlDPMw/v-deo.html
very very good demo!!!! thanks for share
The Voltage Block tickles the BIA in a nice way, I've tried all sorts of gates and CVs with different results . This is nice.
Thanks for the thorough explanation. Nice beats!
What's uppp! I might get this module as well :)
I am Rok btw from last year's dae elective class haha, nice to see you here
Great Video cheers!

wonder how it'll compare to my syncussion . sounds very similar .
Is that the make noise case? Do you know which material is made of?
epic!
Great demo! That click, though
I have one. The click annoys me, as I always hear it while I'm patching other stuff and get confused, trying to debug where I'm hearing the click
Is there a way to work around it with eq, or is it just a part of using the module?
Edit: Or would adding a quick attack vca help soften out the clicking?

Can you describe the final patch? Is it a mix of pitch, trigger and cv? Or pretty random
When you patch something into the different inputs do the knobs work as attenuators, offsets or something else? Thanks
sorry, I thought I mentioned it... maybe it was in the BIA video... anyway the knobs (and switches!) work as offsets. So any CV you patch to the corresponding jack is added to the knob/pot/switch position.
Sold out
I sooooooooooo need a BIA 😍
what module are you using to drive the trig and harm inputs?

Jared Rodgers you need lots of modulation and attenuation
@@mikegeary8056 attenuation... thats what me lacks. I wonder if my pro 2 can...
Can it also output a static tone, so you bypass the envelope? Can not really decide between this and the manis iteritas
No, but the Decay at maximum is pretty long, but far from indefinite.

Cool module. Wouldn't you need 3 or 4 of them to make kick, snare and hats beats?

5:04: now add sequenced pitch cv for a chord pattern…
Any recommendations for a sequencer for it?
In this case he is using Voltage Block
Hermod
Made this patch and recording based on the simpler version of the one you demonstrate at 6:51. soundcloud.com/mbrookermusic/basimilus-iteritas-alter
This son of a bitch has become a standalone kickdrum in my rack. Now I only need a second one for percs
You could buy an actual bass drum for half the price.
sounds like it could replace my DFAM
did it? just got it and thinking of getting a dfam too
same thoughts
this + voltage block. :)
