..hey brother maybe you can help me out I have 2 questions..? ..I am trying to find out what module DJ Surgeon used in his boiler room set to rip sick acidlines threw much of his modular + Ableton Live set 5 years ago here is the link.. "Surgeon Boiler Room x Dekmantel Festival Live Set" ua-cam.com/video/Ww9VtKqprUY/v-deo.html someone mentioned the original basimilus iteritas..? ..I doesn't sound acidy enough in other videos I have seen on the original basimilus iteritas but obviously this video of yours showcases some sick acidlines.. second part of my question.. I don't think the Basimilus Iteritas Alter was available 5 years ago so if it is the Basimilus Iteritas it must be the original version..? ..thank you in advance..
This is defo one of my favourite modules. I did an amazing experiment random modulating it. I made a 100 sound sample pack then started making tracks out of nothing but the vast and bizarre sounds I got out of it. So inspiring. I need to do it with the Taiko next.
So.. I saw your video.. Decided to buy this one for some bassline and percussion. I didn't really knew what to expect...after using it, I can say: I need a second one. The kickdrum this thing brings is out of this world. Especially for industrial - techno, with only one touch you go from a oh-this-is-a-nice-kick to a fuck-this-is-raw-kick. Perfect for live gigs. But now I still need a percussion machine
I just ordered mine. I just had to have it especially after watching this video! [EDIT 5 days later] I got it in yesterday and OMG! It's friggin' amazing!!
I couldn't find one in Australia so got the Tymp legio. Theb they came back into stock so I will just have to get both. Tymp can be used to duck as well as make drum sounds but you can also change the furmware out and make it a dynamics processor or an oscilator instead. It makes great basslines as though.
Absolutely awesome overview of an astonishing module. Instant subscribe. And thanks so much for opening my eyes to even more secrets contained within this module....
I call massive peer pressure on consumer goods across the board~ !!!! Yes Awesome vid! Yes I probably will head over and put yet another module in the wishlist...Guh, yer vidya'z are addictive!
damn it! i have managed to stay away from the BIA for years, and then the algorithm gave me this video. 5 minutes later I'm broke and waiting for a BIA....
Your videos are so tasteful, your voice is amazing and your whole style is perfect for this type of video. Thank you for your work! I am a little more interested in the "dark brother" Manis Iteritas, but still... BIA is a beast!
Hi Enrique great video, I hadn’t thought to use the metropolis in this way , will be giving it a try . I put gates from circadian rhythms into morph and fold which would add amazing dimensions to this patch , gonna give it a try tonight me thinks .🛸🛸🛸
Enrique Martinez , Far out , has turned the B.I.A into a little box of acid with accented glide ! So glad I caught your video, you have opened a gate in my mind to explore more of the vast possibilities of the Basimilus , such an awesome module . Thanks 🙏
Have the black panels changed from matte black to glossy black? I ordered one off Perfect Circuit and it was very glossy than I expected from videos of the matte black texture on the front panals ive watched on youtube.
Are you usung that sequencer for pitch, gates, or both? I just bought a BIA and I wonder If I can use my Qu-Bit Bloom since it has both pitch and gates?
Hey Enrique I have two of those modules and love them. Hexinverter has got Mutant Brains coming out, which has Midi in and CV/gate out perfect for your Akai MPC 4000 I haven't bought one yet but I plan on it to use in conjunction with the MPC.
Great video! The BIA is definitely joining my rack. While I have 2 sequencers (the 2hp and a keystep) which could be used as the main trigger and pitch, I'm curious to know if I could hook up MI Grids to trigger some of the many CV inputs on the BIA. Would that work?
grids sends triggers, it won't have much musical use. it'll make a sound, but not one that I expect you'll be able to do much with. THAT SAID, you could use grids to trigger some slower envelopes that would have more of a useful effect on the CV inputs
I always wondered if I can get my Korg "monologue" to sound similar to the "B.I.A." Cuz the Korg "monologue" make something of a good drum machine and you could have 4 lanes of motion control?
Dont you just hate when you make a video and you can hear your breathing over everything? Thanks for the breakdown Ricky! Going to build myself a Skiff with the BIA and the Manis. :)
Holy shit, your videos are #aesthetic as fuck! :D Goals material indeed. Hopefully my NE Manis Iteritas video can look a 10th as good as these. Glad I stumbled upon your channel :)
I'm currently getting to know it before I make my video on it. My thoughts so far are that it doesn't seem to have massive low end while also set up for a super aggressive sound (but doubled with another oscillator would be sick) and it works well for snares more than kicks if you're going percussive. I think having both would be an epic combination!
mmmm not really, the Dfam has a bit softer sound to me only because the Basimilus is digital, so it can get a bit crazier with the harmonics and wave folder.
I know I'm late, but i just started building my first modular and the basimilus is my first voice module and it is fucking ridiculous. i guess i am a rack addict now...
Hey Cedric! I got this case custome made by Dark Modular. They're not doing much nowadays but you can still find a few around. not sure if he ever made 3U before though. instagram.com/darkmodularcases/?hl=en
i recently picked one of these up and i am finding it to be really harsh sounding when compared to my analog sounds sources. Any tips on how to get it to blend better?
Crazy thing is, this thing is actually so limited sonically, and yet its likely the only and most popular digital FM synth with additional wavefolding. The main problem with FM is that it's 99% miss and 1% hit, as well as being really difficult to navigate oneself, so to package such a thing in a Module would be very unpopular - even though it permits the user with the veritable possibility of designing their own and indeed new FM sounds. The alternate is to offer readymades, though this would then have to be designed by only a few developers and thus likely not strike everyone the same. I think this is the move however, as well as offering the additional wavefolding, because even though WF'ers often have a single or a few algorihtms only, they tend to compliment FM sounds and add that extra layer of movement or personalization. Granted they often sound liek trash, which I have no idea why that is.
I went to my local shop with a massive wall rack filled with all their modules for sale and had a go with it and the Rene from make noise. Was reallllly hard to come out of there without one but the price is 🔥 🔥 🔥 even though I think it can pretty much replace like 4 other modules by itself. I need to figure out how the fuck am I gonna afford one because I’m definitely gonna buy one sooner or later.
I bought one this video came out, I now own three of these bad ass beasts. I literraly sold my other synths to get these, never looked back. It's amazing...
I got the BIA a few weeks ago, and I didn’t realise how important a filter is to make it work. Without a filter, a lot of the sound shaping features like fold and harmonics produce are just not nuanced enough to be useful. With a filter you can tame it first and then go as crazy as you want whenever you want. Got a bit disappointed at first because I got the Manis Iteritas as well and that is an excellent single module voice, the BIA not quite as much.
I just got a beatstep pro and I was thinking about trying to sequence it with that, what do you think? Or shall I also buy a Pamela's new workout? How do you mute the different sounds from the BIA?
This thing is incredible...What would be the most cost effective (cheap) way of putting one together. I need a case with power so that's like $200 the module is $350 I still need ADSR module, output module, filter mod, pitch mod. I don't need EFX yet. What would I need to generate sound at least. I could externally trigger it if need be.
honestly the BIA has the attack and Decay settings on the module so you can cut out a VCA and ENV. Filter would be nice but not necessary, shaping the wave brings out tones in the module which you can adjust on the module. You could also make a carboard case and get some flying bus cables like the 4ms power or deluxe sythrotek power. Sequencer would be nice to have to send it pitch and trigger (gate) so cheapest way would be: Sequencer + BIA + Power + Case.
Thanks for you response. I might have to give this a go and go down the rabbit hole. BTW the video quality and sound quality are great. Keep up the good work. BTW I do own a Digitakt and was thinking of getting a midi to cv converter instead of the sequencer.
sorry but i mean you make house and i cant even imagine this as a bassline in a housey way? also the input is a note on every step, i thought you disliked that since the PO 400?
Overview Starts @2:06
Jam Starts @8:37
- Thanks for checking it out!

Thank you for the demo!
Hope you and your loved ones are well!
Take care!
this was the video that sold me on the BIA... 2 years later and still my favourite module!
Hell yes! Thanks for coming back to it :)
I slept on this for too long. It’s incredible
Steal a man's wallet and he will be poor for a week.
Tech him music and how to buy instruments and he will be poor for his entire lifetime.
hahahahaha that's hilarious
@@RickyTinez you were right tho. this is an amazing voice.
ended up getting one too.
maybe poor in a sense of money, but i'd say he'll be a very rich guy! :))
Dude this video is so inspiring. You make the BIA dance, the thing is so much fun I forget everything it can do. Great video!
Thanks for watching Matt! glad you enjoyed it. I'm on the edge of buying another one haha
This is defo one of my favourite modules. I did an amazing experiment random modulating it. I made a 100 sound sample pack then started making tracks out of nothing but the vast and bizarre sounds I got out of it. So inspiring. I need to do it with the Taiko next.
and all sound the same, right? and no skills needed, right? this modul is like the dfam... famous
So.. I saw your video.. Decided to buy this one for some bassline and percussion. I didn't really knew what to expect...after using it, I can say: I need a second one. lots of bia videos out there, but this one does the best job of explaining the features and variations. great work!
yooo! I really apprecaite that man, it's a complex module and i feel like i still didn't do it justice haha.
I just ordered mine. I just had to have it especially after watching this video! [EDIT 5 days later] I got it in yesterday and OMG! It's friggin' amazing!!
This video texture is nice. It's rather early 90s late night infomercial. I like it. It's like sweetened coffee creamer.
That module can literally kill crowds and that's a good thing. I love it, I have three in my set up atm. Also I love the coffee, I can smell it...
I couldn't find one in Australia so got the Tymp legio. Theb they came back into stock so I will just have to get both. Tymp can be used to duck as well as make drum sounds but you can also change the furmware out and make it a dynamics processor or an oscilator instead. It makes great basslines as though.
Definitely a great video. There's one of these waiting in my mailbox right now.
Bass sounds on this are sick. Definitely sold me on it.
Chuck.. your life will forever be changed.. and by life i mean bass sounds.. Let me know how you get on with it!
Thanks Enrique, I'll keep you posted :)
Agree, Basimilus Iteratus is a great module for so many thinks beyond percussion. I use is in pretty much all of my patches.
Absolutely awesome overview of an astonishing module. Instant subscribe. And thanks so much for opening my eyes to even more secrets contained within this module....
t3l3phasicworksh0p oh man, that means a ton! Really appreciate it.
I call massive peer pressure on consumer goods across the board~ !!!! Yes Awesome vid! Yes I probably will head over and put yet another module in the wishlist...Guh, yer vidya'z are addictive!
Thinking of picking one up as a first oscillator starting my modular journey
your reactions and commentary is priceless! =)
damn it! i have managed to stay away from the BIA for years, and then the algorithm gave me this video. 5 minutes later I'm broke and waiting for a BIA....
when he does the "ooomf!" - i dig it man!
I do need one of these...
That was amazing man, superb!
Ordered one before watching. Can't wait.
Honestly, why do noise Engineering modules lend themselves to techno so well? perfect partners in every way.
well, they have techno artists on their team for one and they know their audience well!
Love the idea of this in lieu of a collection of individual perc modules. Boy I would love to see this paired with something like Clank Chaos.
Great video, super helpful - great demonstration too - thank you
Your videos are so tasteful, your voice is amazing and your whole style is perfect for this type of video. Thank you for your work! I am a little more interested in the "dark brother" Manis Iteritas, but still... BIA is a beast!
I've had my eye on the manis for a while now.. So tempted haha.
TheRustyPeppers agreed! I had a go on one along side the BIA and was was less pleased with its sweet spots. The BIA IS JUST OND GIGANTIC SWEET SPOT
Hey man, never heard about your channel, first video I saw. Amazing stuff, best video on the Basimilus I could find!
(9:45) "lets get back to skin" - amazing bass!
that almost seemed to good to be unprepared
Great module, great video. Serious bass, it also shows how nice ripples sounds
Ripples so good I have 2 of them! But yes the BIA is crazy for bass
@7:06 ""Flash! Ah-ah...He'll save every one of us!"
Great review, thanks
Love the reaction at 9:45...BOOM!
Well done Ricky :)
You are so good
Nice one. I love this thing too.
Loved it, pretty much went “ouuuh” at the same times as you 😄. Sold!
haha, if you ever get one you'll be making that sound aaallll day
Enrique Martinez what do you mean “if”? I’m watching 2 on eBay already?😄
great ... thanx!
Sold! I’ve seen a couple other vids on the BIA, but this one definitely gave me GAS for this module. Great job.
Hi mate great video. Is the Quadra being triggered by the clock and sending an envelope to the BIA, or free running? Thanks
Hi Enrique great video, I hadn’t thought to use the metropolis in this way , will be giving it a try . I put gates from circadian rhythms into morph and fold which would add amazing dimensions to this patch , gonna give it a try tonight me thinks .🛸🛸🛸
Nice! How'd it turn out??
Enrique Martinez , Far out , has turned the B.I.A into a little box of acid with accented glide ! So glad I caught your video, you have opened a gate in my mind to explore more of the vast possibilities of the Basimilus , such an awesome module . Thanks 🙏
Actually watching this video when the knock on the door announced my BIA’s arrival. I may have to go play before the end, sorry..
Have the black panels changed from matte black to glossy black? I ordered one off Perfect Circuit and it was very glossy than I expected from videos of the matte black texture on the front panals ive watched on youtube.
excellent walk through
Thanks! hope you found it helpful
Are you usung that sequencer for pitch, gates, or both? I just bought a BIA and I wonder If I can use my Qu-Bit Bloom since it has both pitch and gates?
Sounds great. Excellent video as well BTW.
Dogboy73 thanks man! Appreciate it

like the look of that setup, you have it up on modulargrid?
Dont you just hate when you make a video and you can hear your breathing over everything? Thanks for the breakdown Ricky! Going to build myself a Skiff with the BIA and the Manis. :)
One basimilus and one cursus iteritas percidio, and a handful of functions and I'm done.
Dope, would love to put together my own rack one day
My next module
Nice! Let me know how you get on with it!
Excellent demo! :-)
Thanks John! glad you enjoyed it
Holy shit, your videos are #aesthetic as fuck! :D Goals material indeed. Hopefully my NE Manis Iteritas video can look a 10th as good as these. Glad I stumbled upon your channel :)
Thanks man! haha, let me know when it's up! ive been wanting that module and need something to push me over the edge :P

Does it remind you of the sounds people are getting out of the DFAM?
mmmm not really, the Dfam has a bit softer sound to me only because the Basimilus is digital, so it can get a bit crazier with the harmonics and wave folder.
Do you have a video focusing on the intellijel metropolis? Thanks for this vid!
Have you watched Mylar Melodies great Metropolis video?
Convinced :-)
I know I'm late, but i just started building my first modular and the basimilus is my first voice module and it is fucking ridiculous. i guess i am a rack addict now...
hey man great vid!
what case do you use for your modular gear? looks super handy
Hey Cedric! I got this case custome made by Dark Modular. They're not doing much nowadays but you can still find a few around. not sure if he ever made 3U before though. instagram.com/darkmodularcases/?hl=en
Do more module stuuuffff!!
Cool video and great sounds! Is the quadra the only modulation source? And why are there 2 cables plugged into the trig input?
took me a minute but I understand now that you don't use two trigs but mult the trig to the quadra. My bad!
Nailed it! haha, that's exactly it. I usually end up running the BIA into an amp after just to have a little more control over the output.
Nailed it! That's exactly right. I usually end up running the BIA into an Amp just to have a little more control over the envelope shape.
Great video, what camera are you using ?
PsyParatops thanks! I left a link down in the description but it’s the a6500! Best small camera around :)
What case are you using?
i recently picked one of these up and i am finding it to be really harsh sounding when compared to my analog sounds sources. Any tips on how to get it to blend better?
add a low pass filter behind and keep the resonance to a minimum, that's what i use!
Crazy thing is, this thing is actually so limited sonically, and yet its likely the only and most popular digital FM synth with additional wavefolding. The Ryk Vector Wave does FM and folding
BIA is freaking awsome!

At 5:07 FLASH! WHAA-AHHHH!
Hey dude! Have you used the Manis Iteritas yet?
What’s up Wesley!! Not yet. Thinking about getting one tho :X
fuck yeah I'm getting at LEAST one of these nasty beasts. Best vid I've seen on this yet thanks man!

What modul gives the trigger in the very left of the case?
mayzen1hp intelligence metropolis!
I just got a beatstep pro and I was thinking about trying to sequence it with that, what do you think? Or shall I also buy a Pamela's new workout? How do you mute the different sounds from the BIA?
are you the one dude from Das Racist?
9:54 or so.... woooo!
Serious GAS for a BIA ;-D
What kind of modulation, if any, is being applied to the filter when you jam?
oh yeah. =)
Did my wallet dirty with this one Ricky
9:45 wow

I just ordered these with a moog 60hp case and i'm gonna put my scooper in there
www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/626962 thanks for your help
😳
sorry but i mean you make house and i cant even imagine this as a bassline in a housey way? also the input is a note on every step, i thought you disliked that since the PO 400?
