Having Mertz come back is an underrated advantage but if you look at the roster, you'll see UF has 13 returning starters from last year even if you exclude the kicker and punter. Having that much experience returning is a big advantage for any program.
Mertz, Montrell, Wilson, Boardingham, Barber, Slaughter, George, Shemar, Castell, Marshall Jr, Jackson, Banks, Kelby, Searcy and others

Shane Mathews said Merz would be the typical starting QB for the Ole Ball Coach….also, Shane went down the schedule of teams we play, I think he said 9 of our opponents have new starting QBs in a new system, Mertz in his second year in the system…the team leader, , led league in % completions, only 3 interceptions……Go Gators…PS, I am a Homer! 😂

People just hate Florida. And they want Billy Napier fired. Florida fans need to STOP being pathetic and GIVE NAPIER A CHANCE. Dan Mullen left UF in a HORRIBLE, IT TAKES TIME to build a program, and idk why do UF fans get on Napier when it’s NOT his fault that the program is in a bad spot

    • @notusedexer
      @notusedexer Місяць тому

You're an fing 8dit. I loved Billy Napier but when he can't win six games he needs to be fired. We're not running a charity organization. We're not Vanderbilt. It's disgusting that we kept to coach that won six games, then it's even more disgusting that we kept him after he only won five games last year. You could take a pee wee football coach and win six games with Florida. And the thing is we lost because of coaching mistakes. I remember Josh paid saying he had the most undisciplined team he'd ever seen. That is in excusable. So don't give me this crap about we don't like Florida and we don't like Napier. Napier sucks and that's his problem it's not because we just dislike him. And give him a chance? He's had two years and has only won 11 games total. We fired Zook and Zook was a competent coach with the number one recruiting class. Please go apologize to Zook for not giving him a chance.

@@eliyawahamashi8310 I'm not even sure he got dealt a bad hand. Championship coaches don't complain, they fix things. The reason it looks like he got dealt a bad hand is because he didn't know how to handle the players and he started to lose. If he'd have been a good coach he could have managed even if you didn't have the absolute best players ever to live. You're never you are never guaranteed to have the most awesome players. Your job is a coach is to do the best you can with what you have. Napier didn't even try. That's what used to piss me off about Mullen because I thought Mullen stop trying. But Mullen could coach. I'm not sure Napier even knows how to coach. But I am sure that Napier didn't give a f*** about winning the past couple years because you didn't give a f****** try. Napier knew he wasn't going to be fired so he didn't give a f****** flip if won or not. I don't think I can ever forgive him for not winning six games last year. That's all I asked for. And he couldn't even do an incompetent job. He did the worst job I can imagine.

I look at Mertz and he does what any coach wants from their QB's ... the ability to complete a pass and not turn the ball over. I believe Mertz was number 1 last year in completion percentage. All of these other QB's are either new or are playing for a top program. Personally, I would put Mertz at number 3 and I think we all know if Florida had a winning season last year, the entire SEC would be talking about Mertz and his exceptional completion numbers whether they were long throws or short dump offs. To me, Mertz = Leak. Underappreciated and not given the credit they deserve. Even after Leak won a Natty.

    So, Ali...
I think when you do analytics, one of the important things is to test your results. Anyone can just say "I think..." and whatever, right? Then, you also get into differences with how people translate the question. Nothing illustrated that better than everyone losing their minds about EA's toughest stadium environments list, right? Everyone came out of the woodwork with their own translations of what constituted "toughest stadium environment." Same thing here with "best QB," except you can actually test your thesis with QB. You can't really do that with stadiums.
    Test?
Use your key measures (experience, etc.) and apply them to last year's UF opponents, and then see if your "We should have a significant advantage if our QB is better than their QB" thesis applies.
For example: our QB was hella-better than Bryson "Pig Farmer" Barnes. And yet...not so much with the UF winning.
For example 2: Devin Leary couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. And yet...not so much with the UF winning.
    And so on.
    All that to say...
Maybe nobody is talking about THIS Gators football advantage because the tests don't suggest that it actually *is* an advantage.
    And post script...
Having a good QB really doesn't help much when you leave the fastest player on the team on the bench the whole year.
    Defense: make a play.
    Beat Kentucky.
