Your quad looks so good for an '04. I have an '05 but mine is yellow and it doesn't look as nice as yours. I also need to learn how to flush the cooling system and adjust the chain.
I'm not sure if it's super important, but I always soak my oil filter with some new oil before install, also I use synthetic 10w40 Valvoline motorbike oil, the synthetic and non synthetic oil can be mixed if ever needed, do not use the atv version as that is specifically for automatic clutches.
I'm about to change the oil on my 09 LTZ 400 for the 1st time. I have the oil and the filter, but I don't have new O rings for the filter. How nessacary is it to change those ? Do we only need to change them if they're worn ? Or should we change them every time ?
I think you can get away with regular car oil, but I would highly suggest using ATV specific oil. Quads are usually ridden at much higher RPM's than vehicles are driven and the motor goes through a harsher drive cycle in ATV's. Having ATV specific oil will help keep the engine healthier for a longer period.
If your bike runs a wet clutch than the oil does matter, it has to say jaso or jaso ll on the back of the bottle so you do not have your clutch slipping other than that he is correct.
Hey man you see that bolt below the oil filter that is actually a drain for the oil filter just follow that oil stem down to that 12mm bolt I believe an it will drain the oil filter
Sergey Pip Sergey Pip your welcome man an if you still have the Ltz I highly recommend using synthetic oil like Amsoil 10w-40 that yamalube is actually the cheapest oil Yamaha can get they buy it a auctions an they buy the lowest bidder.

You need to use 4T JASO rated oil for the wet clutch.
