I like Emojis. They revived ancient pictographic systems. 🙂

Lovely thought-provoking talk, Tracey. But in the end I see little real interest in emojis. I use them sometimes for humour or to see if I can arouse the imagination (and understanding) of the person I'm writing to. But there are so many things I wouldn't know how to "say" with emojis, in particular the thing I most want to say to YOU, Tracey: "I am hypnotized by - and completely under the spell of - your absolutely gorgeous high heels." ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

It would be nice to see a new video on how this situation is evolving. New generation use less emojis than older ones, it would be interesting to understand why, and how it affects communication between them, but also between them and someone older who still uses emojis.

It's possible to make a new excellent language... "A universal language shall be adopted and taught in the schools and academies of the world. A committee appointed by the national bodies shall select a suitable language to be used as a means of international communication. Every one will need but two languages, his national tongue and the universal language. All will acquire the international language." - Abdu’l-Baha, Baha'i Faith

The green gun , while being a great idea, should come with a smile inclusive. We need more internationally trained linguist designing and consenting for important industry specific emojis. Definately adjudicated by international specialists and not tech companies or governments. The current emojis will evolve but does any civilised person want business having too much manipulation of a developing language at this nurturing stage?

Emojis are generally lazy, impersonal & generic. Yes they are efficient, universal & fun opening a new form of communication but they are also the lowest common denominator of expression. Just look at the actual effect on society. When all people know how to do is respond to something with preconfigured claps, fires, smiley faces and heart symbols, the art and craft of language & the effort of a truly personalised response is being lost. If you went through months of interviews and got a new job, would you want your good friends to respond just with a 'yassss gurrrl' emoji? Or would a call or more personalised text feel more nourishing? It's a reflection of the decimation of attention spans ignited by social media and the excessive amount of content available. Used in conjunction with other forms of communication, it is useful, but it has almost become the sole means of communication on social media.
