People who have no clue about bonsais will always say we are cruel too owl trees No clue they need to read more thanks David keep up the good work my friend
Looking food! I also get a few comments where folks are alarmed at the level of pruning, but as you say, that’s what leads to a much much better tree down the line. This tree continues to impress and I love the new pot it’s in - great shape and color. Also thanks for the growing tips. I have one of these and it hardly grew at all last summer, but it has exploded once I brought it indoors and put it under lights - covered with flowers and new growth. I think I was giving it too much sun last summer. Thanks for the video Dave!
If you remember when you were here, my Christmas cactus was on the stone wall by the pond. The cactus received full morning sun and then dappled shade the rest of the summer growth. Might work better for you. Just a thought.
have to thank you for talking about the heating being on. nobody mentions that often. reminds me i need to get my humidifier going. do you leave your grow lights on all day and night? nobody talks about the timing either.
@@ScottTheExperimentalist due to working with Peter Tea and Andrew Robson. Lava doesn’t seem to be as much good as the other two. Maybe as a filler for some bigger projects. Mine seem better without lava, but the jury is still out.
This was one well taught tutorial. All the bases were covered.
Excellent work, Dave. Such a cool looking bonsai. Great looking roots there as well. That new pot is BEAUTIFUL.
I’m dead-heading mine as I watch this! Great timing for me seeing this now.

So, I have one that about 3 years old. Mine doesn't have a trunk though. How did you develop the trunk? Good work as always Dave🌳🌴

Great video! What is your soil mixture?
@@ScottTheExperimentalist Akadama and pumice primarily. Some lava rocks still in sone recycled mixes.
@ it sounds like you are moving away from lava. Curious as to why?

Most off them like dawnredwood chinked elm ect
@ cold hardy or cold frame trees can be pruned now yes. I’d just avoid big chops on those trees until spring
