Man I am smoked out finna watch Louisville get the fuckin shit beat outa them Saturday. I never cared about Louisville because they really don’t mean much in terms of a second team in Kentucky. It’s pretty much just UK in that state, even in that county. Louisville them boys tried hard to imitate UK by hirin Pitino, Payne, always using Kentucky history to promote as their own. My opinion is U.K. needs to schedule all small teams in Kentucky, not just Louisville. Why only give them a shot dude? Why only humiliate them? I’ll take up for Louisville there, they shouldn’t have to face the flagship program in the state and nation for basketball every damn year bro. Not fair to them and it’s not fair to Murray and Morehead.
I grew up a few miles south of Louisville’s campus as a Kentucky fan. I live in Florida now but it actually pains me to see such an amazing program fall on such hard times even as our rival. I remember Denny Crum’s team well as a kid and they were always good until his last few years. Louisville is a top 10 CBB program all time. They could get a great coach with one call. I think it is time. It’s no fun having a terrible rival.
Give me a break. The head coach is in charge of what goes on in the program period. Anything that happened on his watch is his responsibility. And if you dont think he orchestrated, much less knew about, all of the wrongdoing, then I have a bridge to sell you. He was a notorious control freak when it came to running basketball programs.
Ask the athletic board at Louisville. Certain members cried that Louisville had never hired a black basketball coach before and this is what you get when you hire based off skin color instead of qualifications
Kragthorpe. In Tom We Trust rehiring (emphasis added) Bobby Petrino for a second time. A coach who is not respected on the college level or pro level). Bottom of the barrel. Louisville wanted more (hilarious). Step outside your bubble, everyone outside of Louisville was laughing at that move. The most ridiculous hire from any Power Five school ever. Like Crum, Payne was a highly respected assistant coach. Hasn't worked out. Due diligence is not impacted by result. No person is omniscient. Difficult to take over a program that no top tiers wanted to attend due to self inflicted behavior - a coach who is butt naked at a fancy location restaurant, a basketball dorm that has a brothel, and its name surfaces in an FBI sting. Inconvenient facts, I guess. Nevertheless, facts.
@@randallmadison9910 kragthorpe was a head coach prior to his hiring at Louisville, Petrino the second time at least brought a heisman trophy winner, and Rick should have been fired after the restaurant incident. @jwalk7134 Crum wasn't a head coach . No head ciaching experience. Same with Tang. Same with Arizona's present coach. Kenny's resume was just as good as theirs. Not uncommon for assistants at prominent programs to go straight to head coach - true also at North Carolina and Duke, which are blue bloods, which Louisville is not. Petrino was pure trash. Any school that hires him shows what little integrity the school has. And the Heisman is the most hilarious award in sports. Like Lamar justified hiring that critter.
@@randallmadison9910 The difference is Denny had previous head coach experience when they hired him. He has proven he could make a program better. Kenny had zero head coach experience.
Louisville never recovered from the stripper penalties in 2016. They've only made a few tournament appearances since, none of them going past the round of 32. 2020 was their best year since and the pandemic robbed them of seeing that one all the way through.
I'm a Kentucky Alumni, legacy, and diehard fan that lives in Louisville, and I hate that Louisville has fallen this far. I have lots of friends and co-workers that are as diehard UL fans as I am a UK fan, and they don't even talk about basketball with me anymore.. imagine that.
the best rivalries send us both higher. UK I think played their best when we competed with them, as well as the excitement of the match. right now it's a dead rivalry and it sucks

But i dont get the fact Louisville thinks they deserve a better coach. The coach's yall had put you in this position. Should probably shut down the basketball team and keep the girls team playing in the yum.
I guess you could say the day they ran out Rick Pitino was the genesis but it just seems deeper than that. Who can really blame or point the finger at David Padgett, the guy really inherited a mess. I'm still surprised at how much of a disaster Chris Mack was but now when I see Kenny Payne coach it seems Chris Mack was John Wooden, lol. The UofL has not gotten the HC position right and I think that is the real reason for where we are now. Nothing against Kenny Payne, it is time to relieve this fellow of duty and begin ANOTHER coaching search. Let all of us who love this program hope we get it right this time because this is really the furst step for the program's recovery. I admit that I am heartbroken over watching this, 😥.

Beginning of the end is firing Rick P. Such a political action. UL leadership is to blame here. Who hires a coach without previous leadership experience for an elite program…like hiring a CEO that was a manager prior… yikes
Bro, you keep calling Kenny Payne a “curious hire” and failed to mention the obvious: he’s a Cardinal alum and played on their ‘86 championship team. I’m not defending the mess this has become but at least try to provide full context.
He is an alumni, but his resume was shaky if you dig into it. He was a freshman on the 86 team, but not a major contributor at all. I don’t think he even got in the Championship game. Second, learning coaching from Calipari is not a good thing. The man has been there forever, gets loaded each year with 5 star recruits and has only 1 NCAA title to show for it. Pitino was at UK a much shorter time and won 1, and left to go to the NBA and left the roster loaded, so Tubby won the next year with the same team.
Rick Pitino didn't just leave a dumpster fire; he left a dumpster fire full of radioactive materials. If they get rid of Kenny Payne, especially in mid-season, they aren't going to have good coaches knocking on their door.
UofL didn't do itself any favors with the scandals. But there are several things here. They had their championship vacated for a few thousand dollars worth of "benefits." I certainly don't agree with what those benefits went for. It was a really, really stupid thing to have happened. Then the pay for player scandal happened. And it was time for Pitino to go, whether or not he knew about what was going on. He had lost control of his staff. I didn't want him to go, but, really, it was necessary. I do hope Pitino can take St. Johns to a Final Four. But UofL isn't only to blame for the current situation. The NCAA dragged its feet over handing out penalties. Essentially, they gave UofL the death penalty without explicitly doing so. Then there's the whole situation with the UofL Board of Trustees being packed with UK alumni. And then UofL making hiring decisions based on "feels good" and not on actual work performance. It's a basketball program for experienced head coaches to come. Not a place for head coaches to learn. As a UofL fan, I had hoped Chris Mack would do well. Then I hoped Kenny Payne would do well. But I'm a fan, not a decision maker, so all I can do is hope, cheer, and voice an opinion. I have enjoyed cheering on the volleyball, football, field hockey, and ice hockey teams.
CBB programs need to stop hiring former STAR players. The vast majority are horrendous spoiled personalities with gigantic egos and small brains. Stop hiring Penny Hardaway, Patrick Ewing, Juwon Howard, Kenny Payne. These will all result in historic failures. Where are the Izzo’s? The Jay Wright’s? The Coach K’s???
When the coaching position came open several former black players said they would not support the program unless they hired a black coach. Those former players should be held accountable for their racism and financially responsible for Kenny’s buyout. Or stick to their convictions and support Kenny.
I can tell you what's happened..it's gone straight to hell..it all started with Pitino.. and Kenny inherited a problem child but he was absolutely the wrong guy...at this point they have to make a new hire and move on and hope for the best.. this town... Louisville.... needs this team.. the current state of affairs hurts the school.. the fans.. the town especially from an economic standpoint... please don't tell me about next year and all these big time recruitment prospects...who in their right mind would want to get involved in this crap.. we have to start over..
I don't think the University board looks a the basketball program the way the fans do. I'd like for someone to ask the board what is more embarrassing the actual scandals or the play on the court?
1:19 I might sound stupid, but do they just make 2 teams national championship shirts and give it to the ones who win??? Or do they just script the championship…
Louisville ignored unethical behavior from Rick Pitino. NCAA punished Louisville the worst by taking its time. No top tier athletes wanted to commit to the disreputable program.
