- In this video, I'll be discussing the situation with Switch banning and the likelihood of you getting banned from hacking your Switch. I will also be showing you some ways to try and prevent yourself from getting banned. This topic has been requested a lot, and many people worry about being banned.
The latest version of Atmosphere now has Incognito built into it. You should not use the Incognito homebrew application unless you use SX OS or another CFW. For more information, please read: github.com/Atmosphere-NX/Atmo...
Some extra ways to avoid being banned:
-Use Stealth Mode in SX OS
-Delete connection settings completely in emuNAND or wherever you do hacks (or use 90DNS)
-Use emuNAND (Still reduces risk a little, but not by much)
-Accept the ban and buy another console for legit use and use the banned one for hacking

Didn't the most recent Atmosphere incorporate incognito essentially? Scires basically didn't like how incognito was working and made it work into atmosphere..?
Yes, I showed the incognito step anyway for people who do not use Atmosphere. I tried to put emphasis on the fact that it doesn't work/isn't required for Atmosphere.

Avoiding bans is so easy just need emunand and incognito setup. Most ppl get banned bc they assume the switch has the same security flaw as the 3ds.

Yep that's the interesting thing about switch bans, it's all random and unknown. You will most likely be fine playing with only a hacked save, as long as you don't do anything too crazy.
wondering if youre banned, and wondering what steps you took to play online with a modded save file. im interested in playing a backup online on emunand with obviously access to nintendo servers so im wondering whats the BEST way to do that without getting banned.
did you ever go through with this? I personally only use save edits with Pokemon doing "legal edits" so there's really no risk of a ban, but was wondering the difference in active online game edits that have no way to verify checksums, so how'd it work out for you, how crazy did you go with these edits and did you get banned are my two questions!
@@DarkFlareso in the end all you have to do is put the incognito file in the switch folder on your SD card and with that one file it will create a new page on your Nintendo when you hit gallery? I just want some clarification!

When you say incognito is already built in atmosphere, I have version 16.2, how do I turn on incognito mode with atmosphere?
i know this seems late but i have a question, I was thinking about downloading sys clk just to over clock my switch when using it in handheld mode, my question is if there's a safe and easy way to set it up for a beginner like me?

What I'm doing is:
- sysnand completely clean. Only purchased games, online access.
- emunand completely offline. Never ever connected to the internet. Airplane mode permanently enabled and LAN connection disabled
- Extra precautions: unplugging lan cable before switching into emunand and covering the USB port with a random USB, deleting the option "sys CFW" in Hekate (you boot either into offline emunand or clean sysnand), having written down the steps to switch into emunand in a paper just in case.
I would turn off auto reconnect for both wifi and lan too on emunand and sysnand.
If you connect it by accident in emunand, it wont go online anyways. And if you ever launch sysnand with cfw by accident, you will still be safe until you decide to go online.
I just keep my lan adapter attached always, BUT I also have 90dns so even if i do go online by accident in emunand, it still gets blocked. I plan to also get incognito though and I would recommend it as some routers ignore 90dns apparently. (though i think its rare)
Edit: Oh yeah, having two different themes for sysnand and emunand is also a good idea.

@@runterranger7398 yesterday I accidentally get online for 10 seconds with my emunand sxos. Because my LAN adapter was plugged in. Luckily stealth mode was enabled. I think it worked because I didn't get any news in the news channel.
I was getting a heart attack and my IBS stumach was completely off. I hope the stealth mode worked properly. But it let's me think if this all is worth the hassle...?

So, this might sound dumb, but would using 90DNS only be required when using CFW? If you were to boot into the normal firmware could you use the online features normally without Nintendo knowing the switch was booted into cfw previously?
Yes, if you play normally you don't need it. It's only useful inside of CFW.
Hi, if I use sysnand for legit play without any modification and keeping it clean but i'm using emunand with incognito from tinfoil/airplane mode except for bluetooth/nfc / wifi connection deleted and I use this emunand for all the non legit stuff (pirated games/homebrew ect) can I get banned ?

Question. Just got a new switch to gelee and so I have no doubt this video will help staying safe on that. An issue I have is I have another that i've been gelee'ing for a while now, but have used NSPs etc on it and wonder if there's a way to completely wipe it back to baseline and go again legit so that there's nothing majorly bad flagging anywhere? As soon as the Switch came out I was dreaming of all the portable emulators but I wasn't expecting it to be possible to get banned. I'm not taking the risk, cause I need online games. I should really get a PS Vita, I hear that's great for emulation. Nintendo is really annoying some times, release your old games on the Switch if you don't want people emulating. /end rant
I think if you launch linux and run emulators there there's no way you might get banned as long as you unplug your SD card while you are not using linux.

The rule of thumb is to mod Nintendo consoles, when they drop support for them. I also would like to use Retroarch on something portable other than my phone as well.

What if I were to mod what I need on my game and then restore the switch to its default (not resetting to Factory default, just uninstalling homebrew, etc) settings?
I just want to Mod Borderlands, fix my save (I have a broken quest) add some other items into it and be done.

You should do an emunand and get all of the homebrew on it, protection too, and use your internal memory (sysmmc) for stock firmware (online, Nintendo switch online, etc…) just follow what he said

The 90DNS didnt work for me. I put it in and it connected to the internet. I checked multiple times and it says connection successful what am I doing wrong?
it just blocks you from nintendo, not from getting a connection.
Try playing online or press test your connection and it should be blocked
I successfully manage to have dual boot ofw sysnand for online game with bought game cart and cfw emunand for offline nsp games.. But I am confused should I remove my official ofw user profile during cfw emunand? Because I have no idea if its safe to play on cfw offline with my main user profile.

Also how hard is it to add 3ds emulator, I heard they have gotten more stable enough to play games but I was having trouble finding the emulator.

I've been using atmosphere for about half a year now, and in that time I've only used smash skin mods and I haven't gotten banned yet, but recently I put a custom theme and I'm unsure if that has increased my risk of getting banned.

So I have 2 switches, one i bought on release and a new one. I transferred all my info over to my new switch and want to mod my old one. I've factory reset the old one to remove traces (hopefully) but I dont care about playing online, I just want to play through my existing games while modded and install cool things like running android. I dont really care if I get banned so long as it isn't contagious and affects my main profile. ( i wont be modding or connecting my switch to my newer console.) I just like modding and specifically want to fuck around in BOTW

Nintendo bans hardware not software, If you transfer your account they will be fine, also you can mask your sysID with cfw so the decoy adress will get banned, not yours.

No, just make sure that you have 90dns in emunand. Piracy is a difficult topic because they ban for it the most.
If you own nintendo online but never go into online on games, can you still be banned?
The games you play don't impact your ban status, it's the things you do on your console. Generally, piracy is what will get you banned.

As a new switch v1 user I’m quite confused hope you can clarify some things for me.. so if I want to play an online game from the Nintendo eshop like rocket league can I do that through the cfw when applying the steps that you give? Or do I need to boot into the ofw to play that game? I still haven’t hacked my switch so I don’t even know if it will show up when I’m booting to cfw… are the steps that you gave for having the switch connected to the internet so we can play games through LAN? Because I don’t see any reason to be connected to the internet if I can’t play original games online through cfw or play pirated games through LAN..

No, you cant play switch games online with incognito.
I've seen that SX OS has stealth mode. Would that act like 90DNS? If so then I'll leave that on and use incognito mode to change the serial number
Pretty much yes. If you use stealth mode, you probably wont even need to use Incongito

Its a counsel ban which means it effects all accounts
Then there is a minor ban that just effects the online game your in.That prevents you from playing online in that certain game.

You have a very high chance of getting banned unless you’re using local communication. If you’re online a ban is near inevitable.

As far as I know, you shouldnt get banned even while using it online, but you are taking a risk. In offline, theres no risk though. (assuming its only skin mods)
visual only mods are fine, make sure params/bones arent changed or anything like that and make sure the version tag isnt changed as that info will be checked and sent to nintendo after every few matches, online and offline

I have no idea why I got banned, I got my sons a switch for Xmas (from a Nintendo store), mario kart being included... I set up Parental control etc so they cant accidently buy anything (they are 6 and 4), I also bought a Fifa 22 game last year to play with the older one. I wanted to update the teams on Fifa 22, when I went to download update, it said "my online services is restricted" I found this weird as I never even set up an online account, just a profile for parental controls. I researched into the code I was getting and it said "Permanently banned", I was surprised as I never bought anything online or did anything to cause a ban. I have emailed support so waiting on them now but this is so frustrating and annoying.

@@DarkFlare nope never, issue I had was when I did purchase from Nintendo store I received no order number or email or anything to say I ordered, only payment from my bank account which was proof and that's when they dispatched my switch. I believe it was because of this, I have showed bank statement to support but was told they can't verify it was the console as could be anything. So now I'm stuck again

vortex gaming wipe the nand clean then use a hardware way to dump the NAND and PRODINFO from a working unbanned console and restore that NAND in Hekate

@@Windo0ows Wouldn't work, NANDs are encrypted with unique keys that are generated by every individual Switch unit.

With these settings set like this, can you play games online normally without too much risk? Or would you want to reboot to normal firmware before playing any games online?
If you do this, it will prevent you from playing online due to 90DNS. If you want to play online youll have to remove 90DNS. The reason this is set in place is to avoid uploading banworthy info to Nintendo when hacking. It can be removed when not hacking

They could, at that point it would be best to remain offline for a while.
