She is one gifted musician. Thanks you for finally seeing her perform. I have listened to her for a good 30 years. There is something ethereal and hypnotic about her music. 💕
This is a fan favorite song, for sure. This live version literally sounds indistinguishable from the album version. Her live sets are INCREDIBLE. She’s been touring with the same people for years and they have such incredible chemistry.
Her core band have been with her for years - Brian Hughes, band leader - Electric & acoustic guitar, oud, Celtic bouzouki Caroline Lavelle - cello Hugh Marsh (Loreena's "Mad Fiddler") - violin Donald Quan - keyboards, viola, tabla For the Seattle concert, my friend and I were up above in the first balcony of Seattle's Paramount Theater, so I had a good view down onto the stage. At one point, Mr Quan was keyboarding with his right hand and tapping away on his tabla with his left.
This is from her "Nights from the Alhambra" album - I have the CD/DVD combo. The space is the Charles V Palace in the Alhambra, Granada, Spain. This performance was essentially a warm-up to her 2006/2007 World Tour, which I got to see at Seattle's Paramount Theater. Throughout the entire concert, I was constantly gobsmacked by the sheer musicianship on display by her and her band.
The square box with strings is a kanoun/kanoon or qanun and is a middle eastern instrument I believe the slide on the guitar with the muted strings gives a light or soft marakas kind of sound.
What a performance! So many instruments playing meticulously together. You know so many of those instruments! I’m trying to learn as we go along. Thank you, @DrockDrack. This was truly a beautiful performance. Thanks, Jer & Ninja, for your joy in watching this video. It’s been an emotional day (more baptisms than expected this morning); this performance and your reaction just made it epic!! Catch you tomorrow. 🎶 Cyd
This is part of "Nigths From The Alhambra" show. Wait until You see her performing "The Mummers Dance" with piano-accordion (I believe that`s English name). Fun fact: this year Her European tour "crossed" twice with "The Warning" - She was in Barcelona and Madrid both times 3-4 days before TW.
Well…because it’s a REACTION channel, and I’m REACTING to the mic because I’m an audio engineer. 🤷🏽♂️ go figure. We always leave the link to the original song in the description for people who want to just hear it.

Incredible concert 2006, at The Alhambra in Grenada, Spain. The entire concert is worth a viewing, listening.

Thanks for this Info, Michael. Really helpful! And fun fact, we’ve been to the Paramount Theater in SEA and know just the view you mean!!

You always have the best info, thank you!!! Super fun fact on TW tour passing!!
the whole concert is on youtube 'nights from alhambra', dont know if anyone said it already, but just in case....
I love this music! Thanks for your reaction!
The first stringed instrument that you didnt know, i think is a middle eastern oud. Has kinda a pear-shaped body.
Thanks for this!! We’ve never heard of an “oud “ and must look up!
I believe the shortish bowed instrument is a kamenche…pretty sure it’s of middle eastern origin.
My fav instrument right now is the kobyz.Dimash uses it in some of his songs (stranger, and the tokyo jazz version of samaltau.)
another masterpiece by this goddess of Spanish/Muslim music
Hey friend!!! Thanks for watching this one! First I've heard it described that way vs. Celtic or World, but hey, so glad you enjoyed!!
Was hoping you´d do this song. Amazing performance. Have you guys never reacted to Lara Fabian?
Not yet, first I’m hearing - I’ll check and see if Jer knows Lara. Thanks for the suggestion!
Why not just screw up this song to "nerd out" about a KM1-84. Common man, even your wife is like "wtf?".
