I was fighting in one warrior series (rich Franklin's) before. Their weigh in test comes with a hydration test. Unfortunately I failed once from this especially the hydration test.

Worst time for me was 4 years ago when I was 16. Went to Paris for the Paris Open (taekwondo) and to make the weight I lost about 7kg(about 16lbs) and after making weight and eating/drinking I felt extremely sick, I have to say I cut weight terribly, used to just starve myself and train with layers on of even the sauna suit. I guess you don’t realise how crazy it seems till you look back on it 😂

After I made weight ... I eat everything I wish. Then I get diaria... For some reason my fight was deley for next day (it was national championship with many people and categories). So I managed to recover.

Not a story of mine but one of a taekwondo fighter at either the youth world champs or youth Olympics. Usually with making weight you are allowed to go over the limit by a little bit so the allowed amount was 0.1kg more. This one girl was dieting like crazy for weeks leading up to the weigh in. She came in 0.2kg over the limit, she struggled to lose that extra amount so she was 0.1kg over the 0.1kg limit. After all that training she and dieting, she wasn't allowed to compete.

Interesting how he mentioned his glands got swollen during the weight cut. I did a 10 day water fast where my glands were feeling weird at the end. Whenever I would eat any type of food, both sides of my jaw would tingle like I was eating sour candy. I havent seen anybody else mention this. The lymph system if complex and apparently your body uses it for draining waste.

So glad you ended up okay Gab. 😊 it seems to me like the weight cut is more dangerous than the fighting. But then again that's just from someone who is viewing it from the outside of the sport

The bath doesn't need to be scolding hot, apparently a bit above your core body temp is enough to induce sweating. But obviously the hotter it is the faster the sweats come on.

Nobody great ever did it by the book. You gotta find out what works for you.
BTW if you get in a steam room, hot tub etc you gotta cool down the body. You're killing cells but need to stimulate a proper growing environment during recovery. Sleep is just as important for proper weight control.

TJ Dillashaw look like he was a victim of the Holocaust. Some of these guys look terrible after cuts. I don't really understand why they have to cut weight. @@matthew-jy5jp Good question. It's quite simply because weight advantages matter a lot more in MMA. In boxing extra size means a bit more striking power. But in MMA extra size for wrestling and jiu-jitsu is a major advantage.
I walk at 155lbs and cut to 145lbs.
There are so many guys in my weight class who cut from 170lbs. Some even from 180lbs. In kickboxing doesn't matter to me. But in MMA it's much harder to compete with those guys who rehydrate to 170+

My worst cut was my own fault. I didn't manage my diet and exercise leading up to the event. A even had time to change my weight class, but chose not to. Did a hot bath the night before, then immediately to bed. Woke up on weight. Sounds good right? Did I forget to mention this was for a grappling tournament with same day weigh-ins? Yeah, so I go to the venue, hit the scales, THEN take in my first food and water in 24 hrs (with only 3 hrs until my first of 6 matches). Needless to say, I didn't even come close to recovering enough to be of any use on the mats. Weak, nauseous, total brain fog, etc. Bad day, never again.

  • @movementencouragedfitness5945

I know this is an old video. But the bath definitely does NOT have to be scolding hot. Comfortably warm will do the job. Been there done that.

I walk around between 230-250. Lately, I have been around 226-230.
I have to experience which weight class will be best for me in M.M.A. Heavyweight or Light Heavyweight. If it's heavyweight, I can put on more muscle and maybe take protein powder to bulk up a bit.
However, if I can comfortably make 205, then I could try that route as well.
It's not worth it for me to even try to make 185. Don't kill yourself to try to get an edge. Have confidence that you can beat somebody at the same weight as yourself.
Thanks for all the advice. I've been training from home, so it's amazing to have somebody with your credentials and kind attitude walk me through this new world that I have immersed myself in. ✌️

But at 186 lbs I am at 10% body fat, and feel good. Lean, fast, powerful and explosive. Personally I would never go sub 10% body fat, not sustainable for me. I walk around at 12-13%, then I cut down to 10-11% during fight camp.
