Hi MeadeLX50, thanks for the instructions. I am upgrading the front speakers on my gf's Smart (2012 model) and after seeing this, I though I might as well stick rears in there too. How do I go about installing rear connections from scratch and what other makes besides Polk (which you cant find here in the UK) can I use considering the minimal mountings depths to play with? What I mean is, how do I hook up non existent rear speaker connections to her after market HU? Cheers mate Max
Mannnnnn, if you're still around this channel THANK YOU!!!! I'm about to do this to my 2013 Smart and can't wait!!! You da man! Such a well done "every step covered clearly" DIY video!
with the trimring installed you can probably make the hole in the panel a lot smaller , maibe use a big holesaw might be enough to drop the magnet intoo the panel allso to insure that the screws stay where they are you might want to use the sheetmetal nuts on the panels they hold better then just the screws it allso might be nice to paint the trimring and the grille the same colour white as the paneling
down along side the edge of the carpet, just under, out of view and back up around the rear wheel humps under the plastic interior moldings. pretty straight forward.
The speaker risers are American International , part number SG600DX . The tag on mine says 5.25 -6.00 inch speakers 1 inch extension. These WILL work on 6.25 inch speakers and these are the ones used in this install.I put KICKER CS65 in them. Those took a little bit to figure out. They turned out great !
I like the video very informative but if I was to do this I would have put some kind of backing behind the screws like maybe a piece of wood block behind each screw just something to back them up that thin plastic worries me.
I was thinking the same exact thing. You should never hang speakers directly on such flimsy thin plastic. The vibrations will make the screws losing their grip after a while. Pretty fast even. When you put in some wooden blocks the screws will always have a good grip, no matter how much vibrations you'll get.
Actually i believe that is what Raines was saying that since you're using the mounting ring which gives you the extra depth you only needed to cut the hole for the magnet to make it fit. But i would've still cut the same size hole you did for the air clearance.

Where do you wire the speakers to? It was vague in the video where you ran the wires from, to the new speakers.
@TheSoulKeeper7 Absolutely perfect sound and no vibration or harmonic problems.
do u happen to have link to the spacers ? you used
How did you run the wires?
Will this work on a 2004 cabrio? I mean, can you place them in that same spot?

Gonna try this

Most smart cars have rear speaker wire pre ran behind plastic
Wats it sound like ?, no vibration or distortion of any type.
I thing you're mixing thought with oblong speakers. These have the tweeter piggybacked in the center.

very nice...had never thought of this location... it's a gem

You can use "screw clip/u-clip" of no. 8 instead of block, its more portable.
Used machine bolts and nylock nuts instead of screws

I think what he was saying is that you don't to cut the panel that large being only the speaker goes into the panel.
How did you run the wires to the back? Where did you tie in to the headunit to run them?
Cool install
You put a mid range?
Oh not so! There is NO room behind the molding! That is why you HAVE TO USE THE RINGS!
you had a brandy while writing this?
@@dennisk.7574You were 5yrs late on them and Im 6yrs late on you, but... did you drink a glass of bog water when ya wrote that??
