- A video of the hotel Sol Rio De Luna y Mares in Cuba.
It was a nice hotel not expensive. The diving was very good. The staff were friendly but please tip a little I suggest taking US $1 bills for tipping or you can always use convertible Pesos (Cuban money) do not tip with foreign coins as they cannot exchange them (Canadians no Loonies or Twoonies). Do not take large US$ denominations for spending/shopping. The exchange shop charges a tax on top of it. At the time the CDN$ was 1.20 to 1 US$ (worth less at the time) but we got more Pesos for the CDN$ than US$
was there in Jan 2011 was excellent, people are so friendly and cant do enough for you, its not 5* luxury but the attension you get makes it feel close to it, we liked it so much me and the wife are going back at the end of January 2013 for another 2 weeks.
Very much enjoyed watching your well done video.We have stayed there before ( Mares ) and it brought back fond memories of one of our favourite resorts.

a great resort - you must do the Hobbie Cat sailing, we saw flying fish and something really big and dark swam past plus we rode a 2metre high wave nr the reef.
Best snorkelling from the shore is anywhere along the beach where it drops off in the surf by about 2-3 feet or at the far right hand end. far left end is good for shells after a storm.
And make sure you go to the inlet through the trees, out the front, turn right and keep going past the nature walk - also excellent for shells.
@davemakesawave and the Cuban band in the open theatre on site was excellent, I miss them. We are holidaying in the UK this yr, forecast is cool and wet - yay.

For the person that made this video. U made a mistake 0:19 of the video. This isnt the Mares pool or Mares side for that matter. Its the quieter Luna side or Luna pool.

It may well be a family place, but I've only been there once and it was in the off season. I was glad, frankly, that it wasn't a party haven. Club Amigo sounds like more of a party place.
Great video! I'm going there in july, was that a spider at 6:05? Please tell me it wasn't.. I can deal with tarantulas but spiders like that freak me out!

This looks beautiful :). Does anyone know about the nightlife at the resort? I have received mixed reviews.
Im going in the off season just booked it last min&going this Sunday.Really cheap deal cause this time is the off season.1st week of school,storm season&also went cheaper cause of the Virus going on in Cuba in the Summer (Chorea)waiting last min also made it really really cheap..LOL:)
Personally4me I probably wanted2go2Club Amigo cause its more cheaper&singles scene.But the resort/food/beach isnt as good.This place got a little bit of everything4all kinds of people including singles.
I really want to go to this resort it has everything that I want BUT...Im thinking this resort is geared to older people.Also its for families or couples.I like everything about this resort but I dont think they have a younger crowd & dont have party people or a nightlife. Basically not for single people. They probably have shows & a small nightclub. But probably no ones goin go cause not many singles&most of the couples&families just go there to relax.Older people tend to do that..lol

if going to this hotel accept a room at the mares side of hotel only,refuse Luna part of hotel as really awful.mares gorgeouse but parts of Luna hotel disgusting.don't be fobbed of with it.
