Great work - somewhere OP smiles...The influence especially in this particular tune is unmistakable and surely intended - as is my compliment. Great playing.
Actually, Petrescu is holding back here. Compared to his earlier rendition from the 90s it's like he's playing in slow motion ! The point is that playing with "taste" is in the ear of the beholder.
astounding technique....just wonderful to watch and listen to.....I can't understand how 4 people didn't like this UA-cam video... even ISIS gave it two thumbs up... ;-)
Whoever thumbs down this performance, knows nothing about piano,jazz,music..it would be like knocking art tatum...the man is not a great jazz pianist, he is a genius pianist...technically, tone, harmonically, touch n brilliance..must be jealously..he compared to oscar but his left hand is like tatum real stride piano..people say to many notes ,hard to listen to,vanilla, come on people ,then mozart, bach,Beethoven, are not listenable either lol

Most classical pianists have technique as lightning as this. Oscar Peterson used to have his students master classical piano technique before he taught them much jazz. Most mature jazz pianists use a bit of restraint and taste and use this kid of flash at peaks of their dynamics. Blow everything you can play in the one tune and what else is there to listen for? It is cool for a blast but boring after one song.
I do not really like this interpretation of Caravan. There are heavy influences of Oscar Peterson in his playing but the main difference is that it quickly becomes pompous and over-ornemented with little twiggles there and about. Oscar knew how to used them and did not play with them every single 10 seconds. Also, for Marian, it is all about how-many-notes-I-can-play-in-8-bars, not focusing on the melodic aspect, whereas Oscar put emphasis on the melodical term of fast phrases.
what instrument do you play ?????? i am very curios , by the analyze you do i believe you are a mechanic musician which never be able to play even happy birthday by ear i mean with out partition
When Oscar has left us, we must praise God that we still have Marian...a genious..
I agree!
YEAH!!!!!!!
Excelente Pianista!!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏

Yeah, that 90s rendition you mentioned is perhaps the scariest piano piece ever performed. Must be about 400bpm.
Amazing, as always.
the best the world has knew ..bravo

Romanians are a very talented people. Too bad Western press show more negative things in Romania, and not true Romania. Congratulations.
Oscar level no doubt. He would be proud!
Dear all, please give me a hint how to find Marian's performance from the '90s of the Caravan. Thanks a lot
as they say these days "off the chain" !!!!!!
The greatest maybe??!!
Proof that the if you want to play sparkling runs like this you need to lift your fingers.
every time i see this i get creeps!
Marian e foarte bun, acelasi stop ca Oscar. Diferenta mai este mare. Oscar este repede cu class si filling. Marian arata doar rapiditatea sa.
@filistro o yes
asta vrea sal rapeasca ca sa il invete haahaha
