Funilly enough I know that we dont have a licence. Dont need them to tell me.
My last licence was an annual one, so I just let it expire, then ignored the letter and visits.
It's worked for me, for 12 years.
Wow, 12 years! All that money saved, wished I'd done it sooner. I've also persuaded 3 other people to cancel because of these videos

As an American I've always found the whole TV license thing to be a joke. And after watching a few videos of the inspectors harassing people. I feel like the people need to rise up and abolish the TV license thing all together. But that's just my 2 cents.
It's a system used all over Europe. In Britain's case it pays for rhe BBC which meant that fir decades we had the world's best TV unlike the drivel shown in the USA. As an American you should rise up against the fact that your taxes are used to pay for a police state.

The American television is basically FOX News in a number of disguises. All of them paid by ads and all of them heavily influenced by those who pay for the ads. In other words... you are watching the channels you like because they are biased towards the opinion you already have.
Your system is what allowed an otherwise great channel to go down the road of showing programs with highly dysfunctional people as well as making programs about mermaids as if it was a documentary.
Which has a major impact on people already under educated, making them sure they are smarter than scientists.
All in all. Your lack of a regulated channel has made Americans more stupid than you think.

Yes. The BBC should be regulated better, but your watching the wrong UA-cam videos and reading the wrong websites have made you stupid enough to think that unregulated drivel spouted by every Tom, Dick and Harry carries more weight than fact checked content.

My opinion on the BBC comes from what I have observed in their content for half a lifetime and from first hand experience dealing with aggressive, bully-boy license collection tactics (the license 'fee' is actually a racket - no legitimate business would be allowed to behave like the BBC).
The BBC's business model is no longer viable. Fact. The BBC needs reform. That means removing the ideologues and the elites, depoliticising, getting off its high horse as a relic from a bygone 'nanny state', and functioning independently as a business in a global media marketplace.

We have had a couple of these notices in the fetching red envelopes. They still end up in the shredder thanks to ChilliJon's no nonsense advice.
Funny thing is they have given up putting my wife's name on our letters ..lol
Let's talk about breaking the law.
If they turn up at your door after you have withdrawn their "implied right to visit" your property.
They are TRESPASSING. Unless they obtain a warrant.
They cannot look through windows to see if you are watching TV.
They once asked an elderly neighbour to "sign this form to prove to my boss I've visited you"
She did and then got a threatening letter saying "you admitted watching TV without a licence. You face prosecution of you do not purchase a licence."
She is partially sighted, registered blind DOES NOT HAVE A TV. The "inspector" had ticked the admission box not her and had to put a pen in her hand to help her sign the form. Sounds like FRAUD to me!
And did you know if you revoke their right of implied access it impedes them from doing their job which means a court will be 99% likely to then sign a warrant for them making it much easier to be able to get into your home.
Where as if you ignore them at the door or if you do open the door mistakenly just close it on them and they cant do anything and as they can access your frontage to do their job it is harder to get a warrant.
I've had a few that threaten £1000.00 fines which is illegal, you cannot threaten someone with a fine until you have found out they have broken a law, it's one of the oldest laws on the books

Why are they allowed to say that people are breaking the law? Isn't there a law against lying to the public?

They advertise that their letters are from TV Licensing right there on the envelope... I just wrote on the front: NO CONTRACT - RETURN TO SENDER... posted it back to them (postage cost FREE) not had any more letters since! Just send them all back... they will have to pay for all the returned mail costs too!
To add a little to that, ALL mail that gets sent by 3rd party companies are offers to contract, and nobody has to agree to contract with anyone unless it's what they WANT to do WILLINGLY... they are committing MAIL FRAUD every day - maybe it's time to report them to Universal Postal Union...?
I sent the red letter back return to sender with the words " official notice I don't wish to purchase a licence. I return all of their letters with similar comments. We should all do it and fill their post box with their own junk.......

Just because you are connected to sky doesn't mean you watch live or recorded live TV. They have no proof, unless you tell them.
just IGNOR the letters, and any sales goons who may, --or may not-- knock on your door. That's all they are, sales people. An Aspirin has more power than them. I'm on my 4th year this year. Had a few begging letters that went straight in the bin. == no contact equals no contract. ==

I had a nasty TV licence the other day if i don't buy a TV licence i won't be able to watch it.
If you tilt your tv 5mm to either side it will work fine.
It should be illegal to send a letter with lies, many people are buying a license they don't need, one friend told me after speaking to one of their salesperson they needed a license because they have WiFi.
I had one tell me I needed one because I had a PC, he didn't know how to respond when I asked if Microsoft knew they were trying add a licence fee to their product!

Do yourself a favour & don't even bother opening TVL letters. They are junk mail & don't deserve your time or attention. Don't talk to TVL agents on your doorstep, so don't bother with their letters either.
All this utter rubbish just goes straight in my shredder 👏.

*Great video. The BBC 'issuing' an 'exemption' is like having a license to not have a license. It's mental. smh My advice is to inform the BBC once that you do not need a license and then blank them. If you get doorsteped, tell them that you do not require a license because you do not watch or record live TV and shut the front door in their face-that's what I do, and it works.*
I told Crapita/BBC that I didn't need a TV licence once several years ago . Like you I have blanked them since . Still get these threatening harassing letters but they go straight in the bin . I refuse to tell them every 2 years odd I don't need a licence . I don't do this with any other company I buy services from . The BBC is a dinosaur and needs to go subscription or advertisement funded for those who want their service. No TV independent of them should be liked to a TV licence . It is just a Govt. Sponsored monopoly extortion racquet.

I haven’t had a TV in over 20 years - but their harassing letters put me off ever giving them money. The final straw was a recorded delivery note put through my letterbox the day before my wedding. Thinking it was something important and wedding related, I made a trip to the post office the next morning, only to find the same mass mailed schtick. If it hadn’t been for that annoyance, I probably would have bought a TV and license in the years since, but I’m kind of stubborn.
The letter is addressed to "unlicensed property" ? So the property is breaking the law?
That's probably why they ask for your name, they can't take a house to court so they want to know who you are lol

I live on my own, so if a goon knocked on my door in the evening, I would not answer it, unless I was expecting a friend or relative.
Ignoring this letter is definitely an option, in the event that the property is temporarily unoccupied.
However TVL don’t itemise the possible alternative reasons why you don’t respond to their letters
That is an absolutely disgusting letter. How the hell do they get away with sending such stuff out to people. Other people would get arrested for less.
I agree with Jon, if you wish to cancel your licence give them a call.
I made the mistake of trying to do it using their website, they did confirm
my cancellation by email and advised me to cancel the direct debit.
This was in November, come December i received the dreaded 10 day
notice letter, i phoned them to be told that had not completed a "Licence
Not Required" declaration, ohh yes i did on their website!
After a brusk exchange when they tried to sell me a licence, they agreed
to accept my declartion, and to be fair they confirmed it in writing, with
the usual warning that they might still pay me a visit.
Don't try to cancel via the website, the declaration form is just ignored.
Phone them, be firm but polite and you might get some peace for two
years.🤔

This hot potato comes up close to every election but nothing gets done… the BBC is an integral part of fake news run by MI5 & MI6 and the home office… so it will never be defunded .. can you imagine people in the third world paying a subscription to the BBC…? Cancelled my direct debit. First letter arrived within days. They're quick off the blocks. "We noticed you cancelled your direct debit...". Thanks, so don't waste your time applying to my bank for payment.
The goons are still visiting, had one turn up a couple of weeks ago, the first after over 20 years of red letters dispit paying the tax most of that time, but not paying anymore and don't miss tv live one bit.

Re the reference number. I don’t think that they are all used for every house, as when I phoned them to get them to stop sending me these letters. I quoted them this number and they still tried to get me to tell them the address that I was calling them about. I just told them that they should know it by using this reference number. I got a letter from them to inform me that they would not be sending any more for these letters
I've got the whole set of coloured envelopes. They eventually revert back to the white ones. I'm going to make a nice collage with them all . Will look lovely..

I've had numerous letters like this and they all end up in the bin. I have a TV that I use to watch DVD'S. I haven't watched live TV in 12 years and in all that time I haven't had a single visit from these capita goons. If you get a visit from these morons ignore them, don't engage in conversation with them, just shut your door, they have no powers whatsoever.
I found the red envelopes make more colour confetti when shredded the hamster also preferes them for bedding so come on tvl I'm waiting for my next red letter day the shredder is getting hungry lol

Calling to cancel and you have paid ahead, you can ask for a refund of the months.Good to know if you have bought a yearly licence or someone you knows dies ,put in for a refund.
The "goons" are visiting again . My daughter had a "sorry we missed you " card through her door on the 21st . I get so many letters from them, must of cost a couple of years fee's in postage . Not had a licence since February 2011 and only 2 visits in that time , both times after i.d i tell them i don't buy at the door , goodbye and then close the door . They do try to engage quickly but after goodbye the door closes .
Sorry we missed you cards can be delivered by electric meter readers, I know first hand as I checked my cctv, never trusted the guy since, and I told him why!

I filled in everything online bank details the lot, at end it said download pre filled form print off an return an also copy of driving licence a tenancy agreement or hospital admissions proof. Do i really need to that just to cancel. For 1 i don't own a printer

Why arent they being jumped on for lying in official letters ?
Started to identify there letters now ands so i dont open them but send back to sender even the letters to the legal occupier. Im told its a pain for companys to have returned mail and perhaps they might have to pay for it.
I thought they started the visits again last year (TVLR posted about it) but so long as you never answer or confirm anything they can't do jack sh#t anyway

Consider this. The menacing TVL letters are BETTER than what my original Demonic internet provider did decades ago. I stopped using their dialup service and stopped paying AND they knew it because they would have seen I never logged in. Years later debt collectors decided to tell me that a huge bill had been run up and I MUST back pay amount owed for NON USE.
Save all that time and go to the 'signature'. Was it printed by a machine? If so, bin it. This goes for ALL 'official' letters. No human being has touched it. Slide it straight into the paper bin.
I have had one I tore it up a long with the rest iv had. 72 but won't scare me.
Go online and enter you name address and pick from a lst of what you do with your TV, Mine was at top of the list "Gaming + On Demand" one week later I got a letter giving me two whole years visit and letter free .... you don't like to talk to them ? you don't need to, you hate them so much or you can't be arsed, If they visit it's your time their wasting and you could drop yourself in it! with one wrong word, Go online get the letter and if they do come, Take the letter to the door for them to read, my bet is once you have a letter no one will come, after two years do it again, it's Jan 22 perfect time to go online..a start of the year and the a start of licence free you !!
i know u said visits are on hold but my friend had a visit on 5th january i was there when i realised it was a goon i got up told my friend said goodbye and shut door

1. 2 decades old when TV arnt connected to the internet
2. made by 80 year old Penchiners who done now what a smart tv is. AKA (NETFLIX, UA-cam, Amazen Prime, you name it)
