Best thing me and my boys have done was put a bit of folded double sided tape under the non mount end of the motor. It supports it on hard landings so the plastic motor mount housing doesn't let it flex down and pull the mesh apart.
The way I found about the gear mesh is to take off the motor mount and move it to another set of holes on the motor. If you look at the motor, the screw holes are not perfectly round, like the case, they are slightly offset in certain areas, by using the mount in a hole set that is closer to the smaller spur gear, you’ll mesh the pinion better and have the teeth to the mount better grab the motor so it won’t move much. I found this out by stripping a few gears.
Thanks for this. It's exactly what I did by accident before I knew to just turn the whole thing to adjust. I was all, this is mission impossible to guess what screw holes to use to get this lined up! 😂
Thanks for the video. I plan to buy this buggy for playing around in my garden, on grass. Do you think it can manage in short grass and how long are the run times on a lipo roughly?
Good question. I can't be 100% sure because I don't have experience with the Typhon Grom BLX yet, but the TA Reflex 14b could use all metal gears and shock bodies stock. Still, I think the Reflex handles better either way.
I've been running a 14MT really hard for about 6 months now, its been ultra durable except thatI have been through a pile of spur gears. I find that I cant use the 70t because it gets smashed when the extended gear cover flexes. Now I've smoked a motor, and decided to KV down to match my large tires and 58/16 gearing. Only killed 1 58 spur so far. Oh and my max speed was 54mph on 84mm MT tires. I think the gear mesh system really drags this platform down. It's not reliable, and as you say, varies with chassis flex. I would love to see an aluminum gear cover at least, to increase stiffness. And maybe longer screws? I really want another mini for my backyard track, but I'm turned off by the lack of fixes for gear failure..
Yo!, cool uploads, been watching your vids, enjoying them too,...just wondering, does the parts you've been installing also work on the Reflex 14MT? the little monster truck variant.... also, could you list the parts you've been putting on your car? though I'm in the UK, should still be able to source them I would think. Cheers dude 👍👍
Thanks! I'm not sure of the compatability across the models but what I did was went on the Amain site, searched "reflex 14b" scrolled and added everything to my cart. 😁 I'll add links to the description of this video right now, mate. Cheers!
I don't rebuild them because I don't run it that often. Actually, that's the reason I sold it. But when I do rebuild diffs, it's when I can notice a difference in performance.
I'm on my second 14B. Great cars but they have their fair share of issues. I've had problems with spur gears and the internal plastic diff gears failing. Associated really need to put out an option for all metal gears and fixed motor plates like the Arrma Grom models. They have optional external metal gears for the F/R diffs which are completely unnecessary. Clearly they don't listen to feedback.
One upgrade you need is to get Radiomaster MT12 the recivers are cheap and some dont even need an antenna. You can get a 4 in 1, that does other protocols so you dont nees to buy all new recivers. A ELRS module for long range for no fear of lost TX signal. The Spektrum DX5 Rugged is also nice but expensive recivers.
@bigbristv you should the price is good if you only have 5 or so models best to get the ELRS version and buy new recivers. If you have more get the 4 in 1 and any new cars get them a ELRS reciver. People use this in drones and they can fly for miles and miles.
Where do you live ??? Is this new york ? It looks familiar. I am in new york once a month or at least every other month, we should get together next time i visit, ill bring my prized custom builds
@@bigbristv or friction if that works better for you. I think u just exceeded the performance limits of the gear material. Pretty sure that team associated didn't have 60+ in their plan when making that car. Ha,lol
Yup the bearings are garbage and honestly its the only upgrade needed for this platform you can get away with just upgrading the center diffs bearings.
This vid needs more attention!! 🙏
I know, right? 😂
Nice fix, and very impressive speeds out of that little Reflex!
Thanks! I knew she had more in her 😄
Let me know if this helped 😊
Very helpful
@RCRoads Thank you for saying that 🙂
You did a great job showing and explaining everything in detail. Excellent video! 👏
Thanks again!

That is a hack, bro! Thanks
great work on the buggy, really flies 🚀🚀😎😎😎
Thanks! 😁
Very informative......I would also put a bit of fuel tubing on the both ends of center drive shaft ( have no play )
Good idea! Thanks!

Yeah I did the same.
😂 my brother.
This was great!!! thanks for the awesome video! helped me a lot!!!
That's what I like to hear! Thanks for letting me know 🙂
thank for the advise.
You're very welcome.
Thanks for the video. I plan to buy this buggy for playing around in my garden, on grass. Do you think it can manage in short grass and how long are the run times on a lipo roughly?
I'm guessing very short grass, and run times are average on the stock setup.
Just wonder if the BL typhoon is a better out of the box option

Very astute! Perhaps they will hear our cries and release a 2.0
What gyro sensor are you using?

What shocks are on this?
Those are the stock shocks, the aluminum bodied variant.
If you've pulled the thread out of plastic you can put a slither of cable tie in the hole and it will bite like new
Another great idea! I was wondering what could I put in there to get back the bite. Thanks!
U may drill 2 hole beside the motor and tie it with cable tie @@bigbristv
@van_r2222 thanks!

Yeah, there is definitely room for improvement. I was hoping the secondary market would run with that but...
LC Racing heavy duty metal gear diffs are a direct drop in with the associated steel ring and pinions. No other modifications required. 🍻🤘
@littlemotor414 that's what's up! 💪

@kanenstuff funny you should mention flying...
@bigbristv I love all forms of RC but buggies and cars are my favorite. Though flying FPV is a whole new world I'm sure you would like that.
Driving across a crossroads at 58?
Is that legal
😁

Yup, the rotten apple 😂
67 mph . That's impressive. And the spur gear probably just melted from all that speed
Yup 😄
@@bigbristv I don't think it's mesh issue. I think it's a heat issue

Driveline issues!! Who woulda guessed? Lol. I thought u upgraded to metal. Not the spur huh. 😤
😂
There is no metal spur available for it.
