This is fantastic. I am a former high school teacher turned middle school teacher and I really needed guidance in modifying my writing workshops. Thanks so much!!!

Wonderful video! I watched it over the past couple of days in small chunks, and I've really gleaned a lot of great information to help my students. I am a homeschool parent, and I am loving the writer's notebook idea. I also totally agree with your grading philosophy. The one thing that bothers me about grading is when students feel like a failure even after trying their best. Kids each have their own strengths and weaknesses, and they shouldn't be given failing grades unless they are not putting any effort in. Anyway, that got long LOL, but just wanted to say I loved your video! :)

Thank you SO much for so generously sharing this! I am a future teacher, looking to have my own ELA middle school classroom(s) next fall, and will definitely be tucking this away for future reference. :-)

This is one of the best videos yet that I've seen to teach middle schoolers how to write. I teach undergraduate, graduate and law students -- a Professor at a private catholic university. Am also a broadcast journalist -- and have worked both in the media and the public relations side. Most recently, I've been asked by my friends to help their children get through writing (one was a college student at community college & the other student is a H.S. Sophomore). Now, my son who is in 7th grade is struggling with writing. After a few days of sitting down with him, I realized that approach in teaching a college, high school and middle schooler is different, thus I went on UA-cam and found your video. I agree with your teaching philosophy on the Rubric, the writer's notebook and the lessons you plan to motivate your students to write. I like your handouts, and was wondering if you'd be able to share them with me? Is there a library of material that you have that I may have access to? I'd love to use your method in teaching my son how to get through his nightmare of writing. Lastly, I do agree also with the peer reading v. Group review process. Peer reading becomes subjective and although middle schoolers may be able to point out that what's needed, the lack of showing the "what is missing" may cause the writer confusion. Thank you again. Thanking you won`t be enough for everything you are doing, I wish I could meet you to express all my joy and happiness finding your channel and your brilliant ideas. Is it too much if I asked for some live broadcasting of your lessons? Especially since I am a Syrian teacher, working in Qatar, and trying to make a difference with my ESL students.

I want to thank you for sharing your writing information, It was extremely helpful. I was wondering where did you get your mentored samples that you had the students mark up in different colors at?

Where is the rubric on TPT that you have referred to in this video? Also the interactive mini lesson pages that are pictured in the video. Thanks

Homeschool Mom (former high school teacher) of 4th & 6th grade reluctant writers. Can you suggest the best bundle in TPT to get going in the format you outline here?
