This is the one video I come back to year after year and I find it more relevant throughout the years. Very insightful.

The biggest problem I see is the anxiety that comes with all this. Even if you are "above average" in all that is tracked, you now have to keep track of all the scores on yourself and be constantly on your toes. It's like you can't even have a break anymore.

The point he makes in the end is REALY important. At some point anonomity is no longer an option unless you have more then one identity and then we are, per defenition, in the ultimate control state.

Very soon we are going to have companies providing "best identity models" for sale. A new market is emerging with slogans like "No more spontaneous behavior for guaranteed success in your life (planned deviation for even more success for only 999.99$)".

Yeah, what he's talking about in the end at 16:07 is really important. What if your decision to opt out becomes suspicious behaviour? If opting in is beneficial, people who opt out must have something to hide.

I'm a technical architect who's spent the last 3-4 years studying abnormal psychology for the past 4 years. The government systems I'm working on are interesting.

the problem is conflating toxic chemicals with foodstuffs
aspartame- while edible is still a toxic chemical. Flouride in small amounts is ingestible but like aspartame they are both neurotoxins. High fructose corn syrup while not a neurotoxin is still a toxic chemical and should be regulated as such. problem is theres too much money out there to turn industrial toxins into foodstuffs

"The only restaurants in your neighborhood sell only junk food." Well, who told you to eat somewhere else than home. You can eat at home too if you want to, its just matter of doing it.

Not sure globally, but for america artificial sweeteners isn't subsidised. Legislation that really helps sell more sweeteners are sugar quotas and tariffs for imports, which raise sugar price and price out sugar from the poor.
Yes we don't have that much sweet food in the past, but once we have it, it's hard to go back. It's like trying to stop a drug addict from taking drugs.

There's no problem as long as the big data applications remain voluntary and optional, but it might get messy as soon as it becomes obligatory and forced with violence by a dictatorship or majority vote...

I'm biased, favorably, by the fact that this ISN'T a glitzy TED style video.

Zoom out and look at the bigger picture. When you outlaw artificial sweeteners, how would that affect sugar price? When price do skyrocketed, will you be protesting against 'fail' government for implementing your ideas?

Expensive sugar and no aspartame would be the LEAST of this countries worries

i can see that being developed as many games games do have bots available. the thing that bothers me is not asking me ,this is far too big brother. i'm concerned about others tracking my browsing habits, i'm the type of person who will watch "french fries with gravy" (this week). and i am disturbed not only by what i see there, but also by who will make a judgement in the government about me looking. i happen to agree with its findings should i be labeled "bad" for wanting independent analysis

I'm sorry i had to stop half way through, either it's opt in or it's 1984 on steriods. if it's opt in the people who really need 'targeting' won't opt in, the proactive people who would opt in are probably not that bad in the first place or quite capable of doing things with little assistance.

So the solution is just to let this all continue and spend billions on nationalized healthcare to treat people that end up getting diseases from concentrated sweeteners that they are addicted to? What about lost productivity? They just had an article that metabolically those in their 20-30s today were aged 15yrs vs their parents at comparable ages which is oddly enough when all these enriched sweeteners and the cola wars started.
frankly i dont know what to do about it

As with any game, you can cheat, i would just attach the pedometer to the washing machine (it vibrates quit allot). i would trick the smart-bin by recycling the same stuff over and over. I already have a face-b0ok account that is populated by fake friends (ie bots that generate random conversation about recent events with my fake account). I can keep my privacy as well as benefit from appearing social & normal, even-though i'm not. The tracking won't reveal, it'll just be a fake image.
