  • GARMIN FORCE | Electric Trolling Motor | Australian Review
    In this video I do an on water review and demonstration of use, for the Garmin Force 57" trolling motor. This video is in no way affiliated with Garmin and are entirely the words and opinions of my own.
    Garmin have now released a variation to the Force, with the new Force Kraken. This now means that picking the perfect electric trolling motor for your boat has just got a little bit harder, with more models to choose from.
    I'll run through everything that I know and enjoy about my Force, after one month of ownership and operation, to help you decide if it is the right trolling motor for you.
    This trolling motor is mounted on the purpose built bow mount plate of my Quintrex 520 Top Ender Pro, offering 80lb of thrust, at 24v. It's a great addition to my boat, and one that I am very glad I purchased.
    Thank you for watching. If you have any questions or suggestions, please leave them in the comments. Cheers.

    When you were demonstrating how to scroll back on your sonar and mark a location that you’ve already passed is incorrect. When you press “mark”, you are marking the location of where the transducer is, at that moment.
    If you want to mark a location from the paused sonar screen, you need to press the teardrop, in the upper right corner of the screen. That will create a waypoint in the correct gps location.

    Bloody Awesome Rohan 👍😀 Technology OMG !! I am 68 now and born to early !! Lol We fished with luck and local knowledge in a boat today people would laugh at 😂 The outboard was a Seagull on a 15 ft wooden hull towed with an FB Holden 😂 how times have changed . Rohan enjoy your time! Because life is too short brother. Love what you do Thankyou cheers Geoff 👍❤️🎣

      Crazy to think where it'll be in another 40 years for me, hey mate! 🤯 Although technology has advanced a great deal, there's no arguing that the simpler the equipment, the more fun things tend to be. Good luck would have been a little easier to come by back then with plenty more big fish swimming around in shallower waters. Now it is almost a necessity to have all this fancy equipment to search far and wide, but it's still very enjoyable. I appreciate each and every day mate, life is beautiful, and so, too, are the adventures. Thank you very much 🙂🎣

    Hi All, Firstly Thank You Rowan for your channel and this review. I have a Force coming shortly...Next, I have watched some of gamin gurus channel and a possible answer to the question of the spot lock going ballistic with the head constantly trying to correct itself in the one spot.....there is a setting for sensitivity for spot lock, Allowing a little drift (ie. maybe 3ft) or absolute precision.....it mentioned to reduce the sensitivity and the head won't move as much. Mate just to clarify if you have 2 120ah batteries set in 24v configuration you actually only have 120ah of battery available of which only 60 is available using agm batteries that is why I went with lithium to give me the extra amp/hours which gives me about 3 days fishing before having to worry about charging

    • @BurrupAndAway
      @BurrupAndAway  Рік тому

      That makes perfect sense, mate, my mistake 🙂 I'll switch to lithium if I ever feel I need to but I'm pretty happy with the AGM's at the moment 🔋

    Awesome review man! You actually saved me from committing to the Kraken just in time 👌🏼
    I have a Renegade, so your comment about the OG Force suiting the heights of the bow of the Top Ender and Renegades better than the Kraken was a huge relief! Thank you!

      Thanks mate, love to hear it!
      I'm sure the Force Kraken is still top-notch, but having the GT54 transducer come standard, the assisted deploy, and the foot pedal, I definitely reckon the original Force is the better buy as long as the shaft length suits, which it definitely will in your case.
      Appreciate it, mate, hoping to get up to do the Buccaneers some time, so if you're on Instagram, I'll give you a follow for sure, can't beat local knowledge 🍻

    • @WHAT_MUDCRAB
      @WHAT_MUDCRAB Рік тому

      @@BurrupAndAway Yeah, I wanted to buy the Force first and check the position I need it and then get the bracket done. Might have to remove the handrail ect, to get the best fit.
      Would love to have the electric removable for rough tracks and security reasons, but haven’t seen anyone do it yet. I’ve only heard that one of the Minn Kota mounts suits the Garmin as well, but would love to see it first.

    • @BurrupAndAway
      @BurrupAndAway  Рік тому +1

      @WHAT_MUDCRAB Spot on mate, I dare say the rail will have to go but plenty more to grab onto on the Force when underway anyway. Are you more worried about corrugations or bush scrub with it offroad? They're pretty solid and because they're up near the trailer hitch instead of over the axle, I don't think corrugations really phase them much. Snagging on a tree branch could be a different story, though, but I'm not sure that'd concern me either. You can probably pull a chin up on it when it's stowed 🙂

    Great review, even for those of us outside of Australia. I'm trying to decide between the Force 57" and the Kraken 63", specifically for the shaft length. Can you tell me how far below your bow the top of the motor sits? In other words, How long is the shaft from the bow to the top of the motor? I'd like to compare it to my existing motor to help me decide if it will be long enough for my boat. I do sometimes get into rough water but I would say the majority of my fishing won't be too rough. I'm probably okay with the 57", but I'd like to confirm before spending that kind of money.

      For anyone with the same question, I found the answer: 29-42 Inches. From page 7 of the install manual: static.garmin.com/pumac/Force_Trolling_Motor_Install_Instructions_EN-US.pdf

    This is great, thanks! I can't decide between the Force and the Kraken. 57" should be fine for me. What I like about the force is the ease of stow/deploy. But the Kraken has dual GPS (not sure how much that helps) and a smaller profile. Any advice would be very welcome! Thanks.

    • @BurrupAndAway
      @BurrupAndAway  4 місяці тому

      Thanks mate 🙂 I fortunately only had the original Force to choose from when I made my purchase, so that kept it easy for me, and I've not yet seen the Kraken in person to make a comparison but I'm still happy with mine. The assisted deploy is great and hasn't failed me yet. I would say if you've got narrow gunnels and worried about space, go the Kraken, but I've got quite wide gunnels so the Force is mounted quite firm and ridgid, as well as it doesn't overhang the edges of my boat at all, meaning I can launch and retrieve on any side of my boat at a jetty without concern of damaging my trolling motor. This is definitely a factor that is worth considering as I see a lot of people limited to only berthing on the side without their trolling motors due to overhang from size/length. Unsure about the dual GPS setup, that might be worth looking into but aside from taking a few seconds to warm up and connect, I haven't had any issues with my GPS on my force as yet, it may help that I'm running a Garmin plotter too so perhaps that acts as a fail safe should the GPS on my trolling motor be an issue, I'm unsure but so far so good! Cheers.

    iv had my Garmin Force for a couple of months and have only been able to use it four times so far. awesome informative vid, definitely learned more from this video then other Garmin vids
    so far the only problem I have found is when my Force is in Anchor it continues to go ballistic and spins around constantly to try and keep me on spot, which is more of an area then a spot also is very loud when this happens which has noticeably spooked fish( seen with the Livescope) . I only do freshwater impoundments, have you had this issue
    I have done the calibrate on it twice now. no change.

    • @BurrupAndAway
      @BurrupAndAway  Рік тому

      Thanks mate! I agree with you there, whilst the motor and prop itself is quiet, the turning of the motor head on top of the boat when at anchor lock can be quite noisy and constant it seems. I particularly noticed it just the other day when out fishing and filming a new video, there was plenty of dead silence around except for the Force doing its thing in the background 😝 doesn't bother me too much though, I dare say it's just the way they are 🙂

    • @TheHonro
      @TheHonro 7 місяців тому

      Keep it updated mate. The latest update certainly helped a lot. In addition, depending on wind/current, you can adjust "Gain" for Anchor lock. Lower the gain, less movement from motor, but more tendency to drift a few feet off your spot.
      As for noise, whilst the force can be loud above water, below water it IS the quietest - that may change once the Kraken is tested. But until then, below the waterline its the quietest electric motor on the market. There are a number of videos with people doing underwater sound tests putting the Garmin against Motorguide, MinnKota & the Ghost which further proves this :)

    Heya mate I find it so odd that nobody uses a redarc bcdc charger to charge second batteries.
    That would then take the load of the engine out board and the bcdc would do all the hard work.
    I would have to double check but I’m also sure you can have 12 volts in and it charge @ 24 volts out.
    Something you could look into anyway save the muck around of putting them on charge. And if you were away on them big weekend island sends batteries would stay charged.
    But yes Garmin system seems orsem deff something I will invest in on my next boat 👌👌👌

    What about lithium batteries?

    • @BurrupAndAway
      @BurrupAndAway  4 місяці тому

      Hey mate it would be worth looking further into, I'm not sure if lithium batteries are advised for trolling motors unless designed for. I've heard of people having issues with Lithium batteries due to their constant power output being far greater than AGM batteries and therefore overworking the trolling motor beyond the way it was designed and tested and tripping the motor circuit etc. This is only what I've heard down the grapevine and not what I've experienced or tested myself, but regardless, I get two full days of fishing out of my 2 x AGM batteries before needing a charge which is ample for me and I'm happy. Plus the extra weight in the bow of my boat helps to keep the nose down being a rear side console, cheers.
