Let me know in the comments below if you have or use a small electric log splitter.

Splitting like that will take its toll on your knees and your back from getting up and down for every little piece of wood. You should put it on some kind of stand and make it much easier.

Hi ...thanks for the video. I bought one from Princess Auto but the plug has a round rim that does not allow me to plug it into my garage wall outlet . Can you recommend an extension or could I just cut off that round protruding rim?...I've never seen a plug like that before -- I assume its for outdoor use which I won't be using. Thanks again and I hope you can help me.

Hi, I agree that plug is kinda weird. I used it with a contractor type (big thick) extension cord that had a huge rectangular plug on the end. The kind of plug that would be used to repair a extension cord and replace an old faulty plug. I thought for sure I would need to trim off that round lip to make it work as well but the extension cords big plug fit with no issues. I would try using a outdoor extension type cord with the three prongs. The thicker gauge cord the better or else make sure it’s a short cord if it’s standard gauge. Maybe check the owners manual. It may have recommended extension cord sizes. I don’t have my manual here as the unit is at the campsite. Alternatively you could trim that protruding rim but then you would not be able to return it if your not happy. Make sure to open the vent wing nut when using it so you don’t blow any seals. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

As with most tools they have their place. However, I don’t know if I should laugh or cry about this. I’d rather swing an axe than sitting or hunched over besides this unit. I have a gas splitter. Thanks for sharing.

Interesting. As I said in the video I spent lots of time over the summer with an axe and there is no comparison. Especially with all the knots. Don’t let it’s small size fool you. This unit was effortless, and as mentioned they have lots of great reviews in all their different variants. The whole time I thought to myself I can’t imagine having to use a noisy gas unit and sucking in exhaust fumes to chop wood. I get enough of that at work while mowing lawns. Especially for my purposes of using it for camp fire wood and keeping a cord of wood on hand. Sure if you have tons of wood to do or sell firewood or do a lot of hardwood than a bigger machine would be more appropriate. Also no need to be hunched over as you can get stands for these units as well. Some people use them right on the tailgate of a truck. I prefer using it on the ground and sitting on the stool. Don’t have to strain to lift heavy logs up higher. A gas splitter would be so overkill for what I need plus more space required for storage. Also in the peacefulness of nature like the forest where I shot this video, this unit is so quiet. You could have a conversation while using it. It’s definitely louder on video than in person. It’s my new favourite tool. Thanks for watching.

I sit on a 5 gallon bucket and it’s nice I’m not lifting the logs very high and my back certainly appreciates it

Is this capable of splitting hardwood?

I did not have access to any hardwood to try it for myself, but from my own research watching other videos of the same units sold under different names. ie harbour freight for example I saw it being used successfully with oak. Thanks for watching.

It is, I’ve split maple, ash, locust and oak, I just used mine yesterday and split some 16” maple, I had one piece with some knots that didn’t want to do but I took my saw and scored one end and it split it no problem.
