- This is episode 8 of The Quilt-as-you-go Chronicles; in the next ten episodes, we will make a mystery quilt-as-you-go quilt called I, Valentine. Each week we will construct a section of the quilt and show you lots of tips and techniques, as well as delving into all things quilt as you go and sewing. In this series, you will learn how to machine applique, free-motion quilt, and quilt on a home sewing machine. Also, you will discover two great methods for quilt as you go and see how we make an entire quilt from start to finish on our domestic sewing machine. You can sew along with the Pattern Poole community and us; all you need to do is head to our website and purchase the course to have the PDF patterns emailed to you weekly.
Today Monica is discussing her process on making the borders plus a mini quilt as you go border show and tell.

I am definately going to get pattern and do it
The border is beautiful. I am definitely going to add it to my quilt. ❤
Thanks Lori, glad that you like the borders ❤️
I try not to put a time frame on creativity,so definitely the appliqué borders for me. I love them! And as I will be extending this quilt to a queen size it is going to take longer anyway!💜
Thanks, it will definitely be worth the time and effort to create something beautiful 😍
The design is so beautiful. Continue with applique borders to finish it off.
Thanks, it will be definitely worth the time and effort ❤️
A very helpful tutorial and much fun with your show and tell. Thank you.
Thank you, you are most welcome ❤️
This is so beautiful, I may have to give appliqué a try!
Thanks, yes you should give it a try, it’s lots of fun 🤩
Hi from Melbourne. I am busy with my second quilt, both the completed and current quilt are queen sized hand sewn of irregular blocks and hand quilted. My current quilt is a T-shirt/hoodie quilt also irregular blocks with a narrow 3/4 inch frame and two 5 1/2 inch borders. This is the backing and is finished. I wanted to match the frame and borders with the front which is pieced with broad wavy strips. I have had incredible support from my local quilt shop who suggested that, because I wanted to match the borders, I should quilt the middle section onto the batting and backing so that I could add and match the borders. I am in the process of quitting big stitch and I reckon I’ll finish in maybe two weeks. I’m a little unsure how to add the first narrow frame, bearing in mind that all three layers are in place (excluding the front frame and borders) and will have been quilted in the middle. Should I top stitch the frame onto the quilt or add it like normal? Or do you have any suggestions? Thank you.
We have another 2 quilt as you go border videos that may help you, here are the links: ua-cam.com/video/qKsoAfPe1x0/v-deo.html

@@PatternPooleTV Thank you, I have watched both videos. In the short time that I have been subscribed to your channel I have learned so much. Being inexperienced, I found your videos to be really easy to follow. I already have my backing and batting basted and the large centre 210x160 nearly quilted. I will attach the frame and borders and use your pinning method to match them up, and then hand quilt it as well. When I trim I will use a small pair of scissors because I’m so scared of cutting either batting or batting. Thank you.
I love the borders, I think it's worth the time and effort ❤
Thank you! Yes definitely worth the time and effort ❤️
