This was my favorite clock until now. It is very special that it actually features real musical instruments. Unfortunately it is very sad that now nothing is left on the tower, the instruments and even the clock dials have all been removed and only the center core and the frame outside is left
I was there yesterday at noon as I heard it plays at 10.00, 12.00, 15.00 and 18.00. The fountains started doing some kind of programm for 5 min, but the mechanical ring stayed as it was - nothing happened. Seems like it is broken, but you dont find any information about it... What a shame, it would have been so nice to see that "live" :(
OMG!!......the Japanese captured a UFO, and it plays the same tune every hour to hint at what galaxy it came from. They should make a miniture desktop version of that clock ;-)
The most amazing about this contraption, is that no one knows anything about it. (No one in the English-speaking world anyway, except for some individuals who came across it, shot some video of it, and made note of its location.) Who built it? Was it built and set up at an exhibition (a world trade fair or exposition in Japan) and moved to Yoyogi Park at a later time? (Probably, because it's obvious the thing was not intended to last; it apparently is a hassle to maintain and is not now working.) What is its name even? The "Shibuya clock" gets a few references on social media. "Yoyogi clock" or "Yoyogi Park clock" also turns up next to nothing. Somebody designed it; somebody manufactured and assembled its components. But, nobody in the English-speaking world knows who.
@@tomakacap8405 That's where I first saw it also. And, I saw that movie when it first ran in arthouse U.S. theaters. The movie was pretty dull; the most memorable thing was that clock. (And it's now gone -- dismantled and everything).
@@MrJm323 I can see how someone might think its dull but i think its really sweet and thought provoking. It's a shame about the clock being taken down as its far more special than most western clock towers.
I also just noticed that in this video the dial isnt turning, seems like it was in disrepair for years then as it was taken down 10 years after this video.
@mr9ball29 they can be pretty racist but in a harmless way usually, like this pub is for JPNS only, or only JPNS can rent this apartment but not the kind of racism with people shouting racist slurs they are a very friendly people on the whole, more xenophobic than racist :)

super cool...
外国人は 「からくり」 の意味が分からない為、こんな物を見ても、「今、何時?」「何の曲?」とか、ばかげたコメントばかり...説明してもちょっと無理っぽい...
wow this is breathtaking!
I kind of like the music.. does anyone know what it is ? (a music track that resembles it?) - btw, very sci-fi clock :D
Looks steampunk to me, even if it's not intended that way
we have similar things but you gotta go to like disney land or an amusement park to see them.
OMG. Amazing!!

Seiko Monumental made around 300 public clocks of this kind, this is one of the more complex ones.
I discovered this recently because i saw it in the Japanese movie After Life (1998) and i loved the tune.
