Thanks Chris for pointing that out. You are right, it must just be a typo. Richard II reigned from 1377-1399, and Henry IV from 1399-1413. Hope this clears it up. That video is quite old and there are a couple of mistakes, so I will probably release a new version soon. Cheers.
Richard II was a younger half brother to John Holland, and a Brother Thomas ? I an a descendant of both sons of Joan of Kent thru different paths. One married a daughter of John of Gaunt and was an ancester of James II of Scotland, and the other one led to the father of Elizabeth Woodville 's 1st two sons Thomas and Richard, Richard killed with his uncle Anthony Woodville by Richard III probably about the time they found about the deaths of the Princes in the Tower who they were all related to. Thomas Howard 3rd duke and about 2 decades down were my ancestors and were executed. One by Mary, and one by Elizabeth. I have found some unbelievable connections to the Tudor Courts by doing lots of research and a story I'd like to share is Thomas Howard who married 1, and 2, cousins to the Arundel Earls. Philip Howard became Earl of Arundel and his father married my ancestor, and she died and Thomas Howard was going to marry the Mary Queen of Scots and have his daughter Marry her son James who was later king James, but Queen Elizabeth I found out about it and executed Him and about 6 months later The Queen of Scots, and attainted his son Philip Howard, and years later Philip Howard reversed the Attainture, and got his earldom back.
Hi! I'm a descendant of the house of FitzAlan, Lagos, and Gwynedd. Thank you for your contribution of royal information. This is all fascinating to me! 😊
I'm a Howard related to this family, my grandparents spoke fluent German there family fled England to HRE after Henry the 8th beheaded Katherine Howard.
I can relate to that I had several ancestors that split England when Henry VIII, was executing his kin folk like crazy. One of my ancestors was Maximillian I, who was my ancestor Ferdinand I, who was Charles V,s younger brother, who became Holy Roman Emperor. They were 1st cousins to Queen Mary 1st. There were lots of HRE s that were all Hapsburg emperors for several generations. My line was from mostly german anne of Cleves brother down to a 1st cousin many times removed who was King George II, wife, and mother of the Georgians down to queen Victoria.
You are absolutely full of information and it’s so exciting to listen to. I’m really hoping I retain it. Just another because….. they aren’t ruling monarchs so they just inherit a title, that’s it.
William howard Viscount is the last Howard in my family line to hold titles, as the video shows power switch to his nephew rather than his son and my great grandfather Francis Stafford-Howard
I'm so happy I found your channel. I think my Dad's family is from Surrey and in some of these time frames. His name was Thomas Saunders. You wouldn't have any info on him, would you?
Very interesting thank you. I applied to the castle as a guide today, hence why I’m watching these interesting documentaries. I live in Arun-dell. It would be interesting to know why you call it Arun- dale?

Thanks. My date for John of Gaunt actually reflects his tenure as Duke of Lancaster, as is the case with my charts. He was Duke of Lancaster from 1362-99. As for Henry IV, that was obviously a typo that I made whilst creating the chart, as I forgot to edit his box with the correct dates when I copied it from Henry VIII. Please take note that these dates are for reign, not births. I have already pointed this out in the pinned comment.
I've been told that the ser name Tripp stems from the Howard family. I seem to remember something about the Tripp family being a fighting clan. Would you happen to know anything about this?
I don’t, though I would imagine that many families are related to the Howards as they are well documented and as genealogy goes, really old. Please do say If you find the specific connection. Thanks for the comment
Hello! I have some questions that you would be very helpful answering, but it is a private (family) matter. Is there an email address that I can reach you on? I can provide mine if necessary.
I have had a look and I am too struggling to see how to change the colour of the margins. Perhaps you should make margins out of text-boxes and colour those in instead, then you could place those at the edge of the document. otherwise I cannot say. Thanks for watching
John de Mowbray, earl of Nottingham, travelled with Henry V on campaign to France in the 100 years war. Despite fighting at Hainaut with Humphrey duke of Gloucester, he missed the battle of Agincourt due to poor health. The specific disease was dysentery. Here is a definition from the NHS: Dysentery is an infection of the intestines that causes diarrhoea containing blood or mucus. Other symptoms of dysentery can include: painful stomach cramps. feeling sick or being sick (vomiting) Thanks for watching!
When Henry v died, my ancestor latter the 1st duke of Buckingham excorted his body back to England, and was called to parliament for an inquiry. His son predeceased him and his grand son became the 2nd Duke of Buckingham, he married as a child Kathrine Woodville, and was killed in Buckinghams Rebellion (against Richard III) and was executed his widow Kathrine married Jasper Tudor. They had no children. The 3rd Duke of Buckingham was raised in Margaret Tudors household. Edward Stafford the third Duke of Buckingham was raised in Margaret Tudors household and he was also executed by Henry VIII.
I must correct you, Thomas, Earl of Norfolk was not illegitimate, his mother was King Edward I’s 2nd wife and Queen consort Margaret of France, the Howard’s are descended from the illegitimate son of Richard, Earl of Cornwall and King of the Romans, son of King John of England and Isabella of Angoulême, there must be a correction

The blue and yellow cheque on the coat of arms is for the de Warenne family. The 1st Earls of Surrey as created by William the conqueror.
Indeed that is quite tight! The Earldom of Surrey is one of the Duke's subsidiary titles.
Thank you for sharing this. My great grandmother is a decent of this Howard line.

A great video! Thank you for covering such overlooked subjects. One mistake though. Edward IV’s son was Edward V not Richard II.
Another correction, John of Gaunt was born in 1340, not 1362, Henry IV was born in 1367, not 1509, 1509-47 is actually Henry VIII’s reign
