We wanted to update the info on this video. A lot of the family has reached out and even sent pictures of Gertrude and Andrew Marshall. We will be doing a update video next week. But until then here's some info. They are buried in the cemetery we were at in this video. Chloe as she was called, is a grave we showed as well up there. Its in the next video about the cemetery itself. She was one of the daughters at the time when they were killed and suffered depression and mental issues because of it. Justine another daughter was only 14 at the time of the murders. Willie, the killer did 11 years. On getting out Polly, the daughter got back with him because he threatened to kill the rest of the family and he was very controlling. I cant imagine the hell she went through. At that time domestic abuse wasn't really taken serious, really still isn't. Can you imagine sleeping and living with your parents killers? The fear she must have felt daily. The children are all deceased now but many grand children remain. Some that have reached out to us to give us this info. Gerdie and Andy were said to be amazing. loving people and the grandchildren are sad to have been denied knowing them.
This is so crushing. I listened to this today while taking a walk. I wanted to run home to start researching. I found so much info on Ancestry. So sad. I have nothing but good feelings about this beautiful family. I cannot imagine how their children suffered. ❤
West Virginia is such a beautiful place - so many interesting and historic buildings that , unfortunately , have begun to deteriorate- thanks for sharing these stories and places ❤️PS I love the sound of a train horn -
I couldn't say how helpful it will be but on the right side of the hill between the school and the fire department theres quite a lot of graves. I'm not sure how far the graves go back though
I had never heard of a shooting taking place in a school in 1938. This was an awful domestic case of the estranged husband hunting Gertie and Andy Marshall's daughter. He had to have been in a rage to kill the her parents. So cruel. I am glad you asked about the Grave Yard. Very close by. The students in the school when Gertie and Andy Marshall were shot to death, were in my mother's and father's age group. They graduated in 1939. I would love to visit the south. People, especially older people are a valuable source of information.
crazy, vengeful people have been hurting people at schools for a very long time. In 1926 a lone, mean, sick man blew up the bath school house in bath, michigan. he also had a rifle with him that morning. 45 people died that morning.

So cool to have stumbled across this channel. This is the video that first came up and got my attention. It was ironic that I lived across from this school in the late 70’s. My father had been transferred to that small town to help start up Orders and Haynes Paving. It was located on the corner by the train tracks. Looks to be long gone now. We rented our house for a year- from Mose York who lived down below us on the road going to the old elementary school. Our living room window framed the high school across the way, on the other hill. Our house was definitely haunted, too, with the cellar door banging loudly against the crawlspace wall in the middle of the night! No, we didn’t live there long at all. I, too, remember attending one single basketball game in that gym. So sad to see everything falling down and the buildings and houses on our little road all gone.
I live in a small town with a lot of history. I used to take my class out and look for plots during history class. Yes it is very challenging sometimes. I love your content. 😊
I appreciate you guys for doing this extremely hard work for us to enjoy and learn history. You're absolutely right about how difficult it can be to get the correct information. My senior year at Mount Hope High School the boys basketball team played Lenore in a regional tournament game at Chapmanville. Lenore won and I believe was scheduled to play Mullens who had Herbie Brooks on the team.
I found a marriage license of Elizabeth Marshall aka "Lizzie McQuire" married to Arvid Stevens in Pikesville Ky. Sept.12,1923 she is listed as divorced. Parents are listed as Andy and Gerdo Marshall. She later moved to Wise, Clintwood, Dickerson Virginia. This too is weird for her to take on the name McQuire if it were not. Things do not add up. Great video and history, you guys do a great job thank you. Second thought....maybe the two Marshall girls married McQuire boys.
Very pretty day there. Not here more rain🫤 very interesting story. You are persistent weird that there is no death certificates you do not look old at all. I feel your pain with find a grave looking for my great grandparents anyone whom I could have asked is dead. A really good video Leo now you have Heather in a briar patch too 😁

@@jaymoore661 I wouldn't want to look out my window and see a dilapidated building everyday . Not sure why you'd want to repurpose something that's not needed anymore and Why you'd expect someone to spend a million dollars at a minimum for basically no reason. It needs demolished
I went to school there it was a lot bigger some of the building is missing wee would go off of the hill for lunch and eat at the local restaurants and smoke cigarettes and have a good time even skip school. Those memories will always be with me. It was good times.
In the late 1960s I wondered on to this I stayed there a while went to school there had my paperwork sent from Texas made sandwiches and salad for others for lunch we had a basket ball I was taken in by a young couple who had bought the mobile across the street I could not make things work so I came back to Texas , was a shock to see Lenore again I was one of those kids in the 1960s wondering around

All their children are deceased They still have grandkids living. I am one of them. Sad story. I do have pictures of them both I got when my mom passed away. Just wish I had not been denied the privilege of knowing my grandparents. I was told they were wonderful people. So glad this video was shared on Facebook

My town is Rangers too. You 2 are just rad!!
Watching from Michigan
I grew up about a mile from here. I went to Jr high in that Lenore high school building in the 90s. I did not know there was a homicide there however.
A really good video Leo now you have Heather in a briar patch too 😁
Just Wow!
I live in WV, interesting video.

Leonard can negotiate a great result about anything with anybody.
I kind of wonder what those blue plastic tarps were in the grave yard ?
Oh by the way I love you guys video's. From TN
You should try taking rubbings of the headstones, sometimes those are easier to read. Just need a few crayons and a long piece of paper.
I actually grew up in the house behind the school on the hill. It’s my parents house and they own the school. It will be torn down soon. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.
Is it necessary to tear down the whole school. Seems like we tear down so much that could be repurposed...
@@jaymoore661 I wouldn't want to look out my window and see a dilapidated building everyday . Not sure why you'd want to repurpose something that's not needed anymore and Why you'd expect someone to spend a million dollars at a minimum for basically no reason. It needs demolished
This is my great great grandparents
I went to school there it was a lot bigger some of the building is missing wee would go off of the hill for lunch and eat at the local restaurants and smoke cigarettes and have a good time even skip school. Those memories will always be with me. It was good times.
Guys, sometimes shining a flashlight from the side of the stones make the names show up on the video.

Find a Grave indicates my cousin is at a particular cemetery. went there, had it checked by the personal and she is not there. Cemetery wasn't even built at the time
