Love this breed. We have a GWP who is 9 months old and exhibits same behaviour. He is so anxious and protective. We are trying to work through it with training. He can walk and pass other dogs ok with distractions, he mis much calmer but he hates new people or strangers entering our space.

I had WHP all my life and if he was like this the OWNER made something wrong. They are hunting and great FAMILY dogs. I got one 4 years old has been like this and i made him a great companion, past away age 16 and i still miss him. I am so upset hearing all the time the blames put on the dogs - its the owners
How do you work with a dog with this type of protective aggression? We adopted a 4 year old wirehair ~6 months ago, she’s been great but over the past month or so there have been a couple of small incidents where she has shown aggression toward people and I suspect that it’s because she has become attached. She has also become more aggressive toward other dogs than she was over the first couple of months that we had her. Could this also be protective aggression? I’m glad I stumbled upon your channel, thank you.
Just want to note.. the two incidents were toward the same person (a friend of mine) who approached her from the front as she was laying by my side in and out of sleep (the friend might need some training, as well)… Her aggression toward other dogs happens with basically every encounter. She’ll sniff the dog for a second then freeze then growl then attack. She has no interest in other dogs so she doesn’t go out of her way to find them it’s when another dog approaches her.

I rescued one just like it. One of the best dogs I ever had. He was dog reactive but would still listen to me. Great with people.
