      There are many correct approaches to beautiful speaking and they all are based on the integrity of the "breath-stop" (the "Staupuenkt"). If a speaker uses a "pre-cough" preparation of the breath "stopped" against the chest, or a hiccough (Aufschluck), the effect is the same in that no breath is allowed to leak through the vocal cords (die Stimmbaender) while they are making sound. Only sound is allowed to come out and never any breath that is loose, leaking breath that is not being utilized for the pure purpose of making sound. Every person, before actually coughing, prepares to cough by "pressing breath from the lower back up against he chest" (Mattia Battistini). Only after the pressure of the breath is established against the chest (or diaphragm), is the actual sound of the cough allowed to occur. The singer or speaker must sing or speak after the pressure of the breath is "leaned" or "stopped" or prepared and must not relax the pressure until the sound or tone or speaking is finished . The intensity of the cough or the volume of the cough will determine the level of volume of the sound to be used. Yelling or screaming would use too much of the pressure, for instance. Not enough pressure would allow the voice to become breathy and could actually damage the vocal cords if continued. So, the idea is to find and employ a volume level that is sustainable and adequate for the occasion, but to never yell or push for volume, and to never allow breathiness to be used in the sound for any purpose. One of oldest exercises in the history of singing was to vocalize or to speak while holding a candle flame in front of the lips. if the flame moved, the breath was escaping through the vocal cords and the sound was breathy and not healthy for the future. In modern times we have tissue paper we can hold or hang n front of our mouths instead of using the candle flame. It is much easier to use and will reveal any leaking breath that is interfering with the quality or health of the tone being emitted. The singer or speaker should practice until any and all sounds are not leaking breath. Leaking breath will be obvious by movement in the tissue paper of of the candle flame. One can practice words that use every letter of the alphabet and seek out any vowel or consonant that tends to let breath leak through the voice. The only air permitted to be used while singing or speaking must make sound, and no breath that passes through the throat while singing or speaking is to be allowed to move the candle flame or tissue paper at all. I hope this is clear and will help you speak beautifully without leaking breath. Michael T

    Dear Michael, when I did hiccups my voice became louder and more beautiful, what else can I do after Apoggio to continue to increase my breath box?

    Hello, Michael. I have an issue, and I would love your imput/help.
    Whenever I make songs, I have a hard time identifying my voice. But whenever I sing along on a song, I breathe correctly, I sing correctly and everything is good. I have tried for 1-2 years straight learning how to sing good on my own, but I just cant figure out "the science" behind it. What can I do? Can you give me a tip? An exercise?
    You made me fell in love with singing. Thanks

    Would you be kind enough to learn me how to breathe into the lower back? I really have a hard time understanding the science behind it.
    I must breathe in through the nose wrong?

    Dear Michael, when doing the hiccup do you hold the feeling of the hiccup when singing. Or do you hiccup and then relax and sing?

      @Tenoretrimble  Рік тому +10

      You must maintain the drawing inward action of the hiccough the entire time you are making any sound if you use the hiccough method. The sudden contraction of the diaphragm must remain in a contracted state until you stop singing. If you can develop the process of inhaling deep into the lower back, it will allow the diaphragm to release its tendency to contract higher and the contraction will move much lower into the lower ribs in the lower back. The contraction of the diaphragm when hiccoughing will gradually develop in a much lower location in the lower back and the tone will become larger and more beautiful. it will require a lot of practice to get the response of the diaphragm to move very low and thereby gain the resonance of more air in the lungs. Remember, "The bigger the drum, the bigger the sound.".. There will be no need to push or yell to accomplish large tones... The deeper action of the breathing will provide more overtones and more color. Good luck to you, and BREATHE! MT

    is it dangerous for men to try to sing daily in their head voice/falsetto and develop a strong, powerful, piercing, resonant head voice? cause I see that the vast majority of male singers (especially operatic male singers) only care about developing their chest voice as if it's "bad" and unhealthy/not sustainable for years and decades for the MALE voice to learn to sing and develop BOTH chest and head voice/falsetto. I'm wondering if male singers always leak air sing with it and this is why they avoid it and very rarely develop it. And could you do a video about countertenors in the future please-tips or whatever?

      I'm experimenting with this right now, so this might not be right, but initially, I pulled in my stomach first then breathed in, with special attention on breathing into the bottom and back of the lungs. In practice this meant allowing the side and back of the lower ribcage to expand.

  • @BenjaminNHansen
    @BenjaminNHansen Рік тому

    Okay, I found out the issue. I misunderstood your breathing technique. You're supposed to breathe in so the stomach goes out and in when singing. I always thought you meant that you pull the stomach in when breathing and out when singing, but leaning the breath makes a lot more sense with stomach going out when breathing. I have been singing for 4 years. That's not very healthy for the voice, damn.

      No you understood correctly, Mr Trimble always emphasizes to pull the stomach IN when breathing, and to let the stomach relax OUT when singing.
