Very interesting thanks. I'm learning more and more about winterizing as I propose year round services to my clients.

Great videos BTW. Feel like they’re are a lot more down to earth than others

Great video David and good to have you back. Like others have said, I have more worm casts than grass at this point, will really need to alter something in the soil for next year as the damage makes it like starting again every spring. Although, that's also part of the fun I suppose! Take care, look forward to more videos soon. Merry Christmas. 👍

Another very informative video. Other than rake off the leaves I try and keep off our lawn in winter 👍🏻

Hi Stephen, its been a tricky winter so far with mild temps and very cold and snow as well. Nature controls most of what we do and we can tweak a few things to give us a better chance. If were lucky we can start with a full canopy of grass which means no need to seed, water etc. Especially with the right species to start with....

How do I deal with worm casts? I want to mow the lawn but it’s completely covered in casts and they are always wet so I just end up smearing them with a broom 😅

Personally if tou must cut I’d suggest a four wheel rotary so damage is minimal. We have a product out next year but unfortunately there’s not much else…

@@TiNiB I have a small lawn and I pick up the worst of the worm casts with a modified afro comb that has a long handle attached to it and the prongs are slightly bent up to allow it to slide along under the casts and lift out. I know it’s a bit extreme but it does the job.

@@stevenbuckley1416 thanks Steven. I have a comb which I used to use but it would take forever to pick hundreds of worm casts.

What wt of iron sulphate do you advise per m2

It really depends on what you are trying to do with it. Over-use of course can lead to many problems. It has a rate between 4 and 24 kg/hectare with the latter being the best for moss control, as long as its done AFTER scarifying, not before. As low as 4kg/ha can be used to dry the plant out to help disease control. All can be used for some colouring up as well of course. So choose what rate you want and need, if that makes sense.

The recent studies talked about by Dr. Micah Woods speak about how hollow tines tear the roots as compared to solid tines and that it makes very little difference to gross density.

I think you'll find he's talking about golf turf cut at short heights, on USGA constructed turf...not standard lawns

I don’t think people with a standard lawn are watching these videos.

@@lawnassociation I solid tine for two different reasons in my small business.
The first is many lawns are built on native soil here and these used to be weedy green spaces or meadows.
I have found the hollow tine, in ejecting a core bring up more weed seeds.
There are strict restrictions on herbicide use in my city.
The second reason is offering two sizes of solids gives me a market edge from folks who's machine only can hollow, plus no cores to gather.
Of course each to their own but I see no visible difference in turf quality between one and the other.

@@wayneessar7489 Hi Wayne, any aeration has to be done for a particular reason and of course that is different on each lawn. In general, most lawns ( especially in UK) suffer with soil structure changes through weather and other reasons, however many also have good soils too. Solid can work as well as HT on many soils but the idea is always aerating for YOUR own problem is down to any individual to decipher what that may be. Soil structure is best altered by HT but that doesn’t mean all need it. Our Online Learning course explains that tou have to learn what each does then direct that to do what you need to do. All aeration does something but only the individual can decide 👍
