One minor detail I love about this move is that during Mother Gothel’s song she mentions the Black Plague (1300s) and her dress fits with that time period, whereas Rapunzel wears a more 17-1800s-style dress. Which proves that she’d been using the flower for at least 500 years
Yeah, and the whole reason she knows of the flower in the first place is because she was 1 of 3 apprentices to an evil sorceress....the lore-expansion the series was pretty deep
@@WelchyCan you react to "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron"? It's a story about a strong, beautiful horse with a spirit that can never be broken. I cry every time I watch it! It's an INCREDIBLE film, and the songs in the background are so cool! But it's not a musical and the animals can't talk. 😭💔🔥
Whenever Mother Gothel shows Rapunzel any affection, she's actually showing it to her hair. In contrast, when Eugene does the same, he pushes her hair away from her face.
In the lantern scene, Rapunzel lifts a lantern from hitting the water. It has the Sun symbol that the King and Queen released, showing the connection to her and her parents. Also, in the story of Rapunzel, the Witch’s favorite flower is the Rampion. Another name for that is Rapunzel, hence her name.
The scene where Rapunzel finally remembers who she was is still amazing to me, cuz she remembered her kingdom's sun symbol even as a baby, and has been unconsciously painting its shape for years of her life. All it took was seeing the flag AND the royal mural for her to realize she was the lost princess
Rapunzel is actually very strong. In the cartoon she ended up being able to revive people and also has an opposite version of the spell being destruction , death and chaos
This is my favorite Disney movie. Although I've always liked how they shamed Gothel for "hoarding" the flower's healing properties when they themselves destroyed the hell out of it to heal one person lol
I think the implication is that Gothel's knowledge of witchcraft let her figure out how to use the flower indefinitely through the song/spell. If she had shared that knowledge then lots of people could have benefitted from it. The king had only heard that there was a magical flower with healing properties, so when they found it they used it in the way that made the most sense to them (ie brewing it into medicine) because they didn't know any other way to make it work. If Gothel hadn't kept it to herself she could have used it to heal the queen and then still used it for her own benefit.
@@CalliopePony That makes a lot of sense! I totally see that now. That being said, Rapunzel should probably have a conversation with her parents about capital punishment for theft lol
Mother Gothel is my favorite Disney villain because of how realistic she is. She’s incredibly manipulative, creepy, and has an epic death scene. Her dynamic with Rapunzel makes the movie extremely deep imo. She’s a great representation of an emotionally abusive parent.
So Google says Mother Gothel is 1000 years old! And typically in supernatural movies...The longer you cheat death the quicker you'll age without your power source.
3:19 he actually does, even before married to raps, in tangled the series it was revealed that hes the son of edmund, whos the king of the dark kingdom, so technically hes still a prince no matter what
I just watched your first Tangled reaction a few days ago, and now I get to see you revisit this masterpiece! A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one!
Let's goooo more tangled content! I was like "huh??? I feel like he watched that already" BUT NO IT WAS A REWATCH! Also not over "Mother Gospel" I mean, she does want Rapunzel to think her word is gospel sooooo
I wish she just got a book explaining the lantern tradition when she was at the kingdom originally instead of a cloth, i think it'd make much more sense for her to make the connection that the magic flower that healed the queen is the exact power her hair has rather than a baby flashback lol
15:21 *She didn't fall in love with Flynn!* but used him (a sort of blackmail) to gain her life dream. As they (water-trapped) began opening up - and he said his real name - her feelings began changing.
I rewatched this movie a few months ago I was watching it on my phone in a hotel room and I started crying during the I See the Light scene and my parents saw me randomly start crying and were concerned that I just heard some sad news or something It was awkward explaining myself 😅
Holy fuck you just broke my mind. I don't remember when I last watched this movie... but I know for a fact that the thought of her calling Rapunzel "flower" was THAT. Holy shit that makes so much sense!
15:55 okay but her song actually hits deep. yeah she's the villain but what she said in those lyrics holds a lot of truth to it. there's also a theory floating around (i don't really believe it) that mother gothel is actually meg from hercules
I think why her tears works like her hair because Rapunzel has it in her DNA. Basically, the power of the flower was shown externally through her hair but internally, it's all over her body. This would also work for her mother who drank basically the whole flower for herself.
I love how your reaction is more logical this time the last time you enjoyed the story and now you analyze it more. Also the reaction to eugenes name and rapunzel liking it is the same as last time😆
Ok, but the music when they get to the city is so good. Rapunzel discovering the world is gigantic and filled with people. Hell, the song makes me want to explore.
Rapunzel was one of my favorite princesses. As a kid. Again Zachery Levy and Mandy Moore stole the show for me. All the song and Characters were amazing.💜💜 9:03 God Damn Welchy.😟 11:20 In the background you can see a puppet that looks like Pinocchio. 20:04 That flew over my head as a kid. 20:06 Exactly. 20:19 Frollo and Mother Gothel. 25:08 I’m gonna do a Disney official animated canon This Summer. I’m a Disney fan Till the ages.❤
Thank you Welchy for reminding me why Tangled is my favourite Disney movie ♥️ You really did show some of the best moments that I actually forgot about! Great video!
Rapunzel has always been my favorite, especially after the show. I like that she doesn't always get saved, they save each other. She's independent but still has love in her life and accepts help from her friends. Plus Mandy Moore is an amazing singer.
I was watching this with my family a couple of years ago, 23:46 my mom said “we get it everyone had a bit of good/light in them”. I don’t watch this with my family every again
Flynn/Eugene does qualify as an official Disney Prince because the only requirement for being a Disney Prince is being the love interest of an official Disney Princess which Rapunzel is.
If her hair actually did bring people back to life, she would have been to save her theoretical uncle and aunt(Anna,Elsa and theoretically Tarzan's parents.)
Lol you're so right. Tangled became my favorite Disney movie when it came out, and it's also kind of a comfort movie for me, since I relate to Rapunzel & the mother gaslighting her 😅😅 Days have been very rough recently & just- thank you for sharing your joy & giving me smth to make my days a little brighter too, Welchy 🩷
08:18 She did not 'just come to the conclusion' Mother Gothel has been teaching and manipulation her her entire childhood to fear the outside world... to fear other people who will get to her hair. So she's going back to check. 18:00 Money, greed, time crunching the creative process and focus on the parks instead. And a lot of deeper issues.

I loved seeing this reaction even though he made one before like I still loved this one I’ve seen this movie so many times that I have the songs and the dialogue memorized and I remember seeing it in the theater when it came out I was 8 years old and I cried when Flynn cut her hair and then died I was like this cannot be how it ends like the emotional rollercoaster that kid me went through
Honestly Rapunzel is one of my fav princess because who else beats people up with a frying pan
It’s iconic
@@Welchynot more iconic than Merida though
Who knew right
It’s cast iron too and those things are *heavy.* So Rapunzel is strong too! Makes sense since she has to be strong because of her hair lol.
It's funny because it's not in the original story but Tangled is the 3rd interpretation of Rapunzel I've seen where she uses a pan as a weapon!
One minor detail I love about this move is that during Mother Gothel’s song she mentions the Black Plague (1300s) and her dress fits with that time period, whereas Rapunzel wears a more 17-1800s-style dress. Which proves that she’d been using the flower for at least 500 years

There were more than one black plagues through history so that isn't really an indicator of her age. The last was in 1924-25 in America.
"Mother Gospel" killed me
I realised while editing I said it the whole way through the commentary and it’s not even her name😭

Well that's still debatable, but appreciate the reassurance@@Welchy
Yeah, I thought so too. But, hey I'm not complaining, love myself a Tangled reaction.
The curtain covering Rapunzels mural is made from the same material as Mother Gothels dress, symbolizing her keeping Rapunzel from the outside world.
