It's interesting that Cimarron flopped. It received an Oscar for Best Picture. Similar tales could be told about "The General" (1926), "It's a Wonderful Life" (1946), and many other great movies. Your video made me interested in seeing if I can find some of those Westerns on the internet.
The only reason The Big Trail flopped was because it was the first film shot in a modern style aspect ratio, the problem was there were few theaters in America that had film projectors with the right kind of lens to show it. He's wrong saying it wasn't a hit with audiences, it was, the people who saw it loved it, it's just that because theaters didn't want to buy the special lens to show it that made its audience and ticket sales low. I think what they were trying to do was develop the modern aspect ratio but with theaters not wanting to invest in a special lens just as the Great Depression was starting, that for all they knew would only work with that one movie, it wound up delaying that widescreen style until after WW2 when Cinemascope and the other famous widescreen type formats caught on.
The original theatrical release of Heaven's Gate was a very butchered version done by the studio. Track down the Criterion release. It's a better film than it's reputation.
Watched Monte Walsh for the first time this year. Lee Marvin and Jack Palance are superb.
Tom Selleck‘s remake was not nearly as good
@@mmorrell4492 Totally agree. The original version with Lee Marvin and Jack Palance is just a different class.
Culpepper Cattle Company is a good movie. Anyone who likes westerns should give it a look. Love the little "dust up" in the saloon.
"Cimmaron" is pronounced with accent on first syllable.
Heaven's Gate is a brilliant movie.
it's such a shame it essentially ruined Cimino's career... would have been interesting to see what he could have gotten up to.
Yes it is.
No it;s not, not even close
It certainly didn't deserve the criticism it received.
Totally agree, forget what it cost. ,just enjoy ..
Thank you for this list! I haven't seen some of these; I'm going to need to search them out. A little surprised that _Pale Rider_ isn't included.

Very enjoyable 🙏🏻💗
The dance scene in Heaven's Gate goes on for far too long.
In Havens Gate the leading actors were miscast.
Heavens Gate is a good movie, just to damn long.
Heaven's Gate was probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen and it was not even close to being accurate on the Johnson County wars
Some of these films could have been improved with better actors.
