    Nice clean out! My kitchen freezer only gets cleaned out about once a yr.🥺 The big chest freezer is only cleaned out every 2-ish yrs. I always dread cleaning it out. It takes forever, then it needs defrosted too. But then it’s always like Christmas! We find stuff we didn’t even know we had!
    Thanks Kristen!😁

    Great organization! We switched to baskets and keep a list on phone for inventory. Everyone has to do what works for them. It helps when we go to the store. If the chicken basket is full, we know not to buy more. We just got tired of stuff flying out the door and digging for stuff. Pizza just gets stacked up. It is interesting to see what works for different people. Thankfully, the power is not going out here like some places. Leaning toward stocking up on canned meats next. It's a lot of maintaining, but worth it.

      I totally get the the idea of stocking up on more canned meats and am considering that myself too. I like the idea of baskets for certain things and knowing when the basket is full, you are set. Great idea! And the phone list too. Good job staying on top of your freezer! 😍

      @rg-mi5hh I totally agree! Whatever works for you. I am thankful we don't have lots of outages (and we do have a generator) but I completely agree it is smart to be prepared and stockpile shelf stable foods and meats. 👍

      Someone we know lives in the Cleveland Ohio area. Last Thurs a storm hit and 12 tornadoes and 3 earthquakes have been confirmed across northern Ohio. One small tornado hit down a the street from them. It tore off the roof. No one was killed thankfully. We are getting canned foods and maybe can some ourselves. If our freezer couldn't be used, we would be in trouble. They also had no water for several days and electric for about four days. We are tuning up our preparedness. God is watching over us too.

      @@rg-mi5hh Yes, the water is huge too! Good for you in stepping up your preparedness. I am feeling the urge to do that too - even though I know God is in control. It's a matter of good stewardship and being responsible with what God has given us!

    You inspired me to organize my freezer. I think it’ll take me more than a half an hour. I try to organize in the spring and fall. The baked goods and pie kits are a great idea. I freeze grated zucchini and chopped rhubarb for baking. I like to stock up before the winter months. Do you make ahead freezer meals like casseroles or lasagna? Do you freeze cheese, stew meat or beef roasts? I didn’t see that on your list.

    • @joyfullythriving
      @joyfullythriving  Рік тому +1

      Good questions! I normally buy big blocks of cheese and just store them in the fridge now, instead of freezing shredding. No roasts right now because I iust haven't seen great deals on them. In the past, I have frozen zucchini but not this year. And we just had our first harvest from our rhubarb plant this summer so I am definitely hoping to freeze some in future years! I have frozen meals in the past, but now I tend to freeze the parts - like prepped meat for poppy seed chicken - so I can make them quickly. It's also a space issue because you can see how quickly I fill up an extra freezer! 😃 Good luck with your freezer organization too!

    My family has two large chest freezers in the garage plus the extra fridge/freezer combo in addition to the kitchen fridge. I usually pull everything out of the freezers once a year - in January or February here in California (when it's cool in the garage) - catalog - mostly mentally because I still haven't come upon a workable freezer inventory system and since I've been trying for 4 decades I doubt one exists. Thank you for sharing with us!

    • @joyfullythriving
      @joyfullythriving  Рік тому +2

      That is smart to do it when it is cooler for you! And I a bit relieved you still haven't found the perfect system either! You are right. It is probably wishful thinking that a perfect system exists. 😁

      @@joyfullythriving If we could buy stickers with codes like the grocery stores use to scan items for sale and a reasonably priced scanner that could populate/update a spreadsheet automatically, that would be nice. Perhaps pie in the sky but if anyone knows of a way to get that done, I would buy it to try and that should work. Scan in everything and scan it out on removal. Could even put something back in if deciding against thawing for any reason.

      I use a paid program put out by Prepper Nerd. It's $47/yr and you can scan barcodes into the program as well as log foods manually. It does a lot I personally do not use (like nutrition per family member) but a lot is excellent like showing exactly where you stored it , let's you know if you are heavy in one food category over others, and will let you know when something is going to expire soon. It took a while to set up as my prep pantry is extensive, but now I just scan items with my phone before putting it on the shelf and it's all logged in. Easy peasy. Love your videos!

    I need to get back into shopping sales and stocking up! My freezer used to be similar to yours but I've worked it down over the past year and really haven't restocked much because prices don't feel like "deals" anymore. You've inspired me to get back into it though!

    • @joyfullythriving
      @joyfullythriving  Рік тому +1

      I totally get it...because that is how I feel about my stockpile! I have really eaten from it this year and it needs some much restocking, even though the deals aren't nearly as good as remember. BUT any deals are better than paying full price, so here's to restocking together! 😊

    I just organized my freezers too! I usually do mine once a month. Or I try too. Lol usually the beginning of the month so I can see what we have on hand.
    I planned a lot of my meals for September with what I have on hand. Then I'm going to use a lot of my grocery budget to stock up for the winter months.
    Question on your cookies. Do you do some already baked and then some not? How do you decide which ones to do fresh and what ones get baked before freezing? I am curious. I have only just froze the dough balls and then taken them out as needed. :)

      @joyfullythriving  Рік тому

      Once a month? I am super impressed! 👏 Way to go, Angie! As for cookies, I freeze most of my cookies - if not all - already baked. I have always figured it doesn't take me long to pull out my mixer and make fresh dough, so I bake the cookies and freeze them that way. Because pretty much every cookie I have ever made freezes great, so that is never a problem. And then I always have cookies ready to go for 4 kids lunches....or surprise company...or just because! 🍪 🍪 🍪

      @@joyfullythriving I'm not always good. I had not done it in a hot minute and realized I had hotdogs in there. Lol But, having two chest freezers it's actually pretty easy to keep up with. One I have just meat in ir and the other has everything else.
      I can't tell you how much I love having a stockpile. It not only saves. But, it also is so much less stressful when trying to plan meals. Especially in the winter months.
      I am planning on doing some prep soon here. I like making freezer pasta sauce and also black beans, and potatoes (masjed) to have on hand.
