    Thank you so much!! I was looking for a way to fix my closet! My closet shelving keeps falling down and I realized that whoever installed it didn't anchor anything to the drywall and that's why it keeps falling!

    This helped me get an idea of what my husband was talking about! 😂 I wasn't sure how wall anchors were going to help with a stringer but it appears that it is strong enough.

  • @bobbi6491

    You should use toggle drywall anchors. They go behind the drywall and hold onto more surface area making them super strong. Really no chance they will rip out with nromal weight. I use them at work for mounting grave objects to wall when I can't find a stud. Haven't had an issue yet

      Those are the best. I'm not a fan of the ones used in this video.

    • @lindam.9282

      I tried using the toggle ones but they ripped right out when the clothes were put on the rod. Wasn't strong enough to hold the amount of clothes a friend needed me to store for her after hurricane Ian. I've used the ones he's talking about for other projects and they haven't ripped out as yet. Don't blink, it could happen any time around my house. I'm in the process of replacing everything in this particular closet and this video is really helpful in a lot of ways.😊

    Aren't there studs in the corners? Why not just screw the board into the corner studs and call it a day?

    I'm super confused. Why not just screw the curtain rod brackets directly into the drywall using anchors? Why bother with a stringer if the stringer is fastened with anchors?

    How did you secure it to the other side where the shelving unit is? That is where I'm concerned it won't be strong enough if I use short screws that don't go through my shelves.

    • @ZipZapDIY
      @ZipZapDIY  4 роки тому

      short screws should be strong enough if placed in solid wood.

    @ZipZapDIY Are you using a true 1x6" board x depth of closet, not nominal (off the shelf) board (which would be less than 6" for a 1x6)?

    • @ZipZapDIY
      @ZipZapDIY  10 років тому +1

      This closed rod installation method is super strong, if you use multiple anchors (the ones recommended and in this video hold 75lbs each) use a good board, spread the weight out over the board, use a quality heavy duty closet rod, then you should be fine. The closet rod installation in this video uses a 6ft rod and is fully loaded and solid.

    Do you think this would work in an rv closet? I'm scared to drill any holes in those walls. I think they are hollow. Also, is your stringer board 1x5? (I just read the comments, 1x3 or 1x4). I'm trying to figure out if I need to tweek anything you used for my 13 1/2"w x 25 1/4" deep x 45" high closet. My concern is not to collapse my closet walls with whatever I do. It currently has a flimsy plastic rod in the ceiling coming loose. So are you saying dont use the screws that came with the anchors? Instead #10, 2" drywall screws?

    • @amandajohnson2850
      @amandajohnson2850 2 роки тому +1

      Other RV'ers: better to build your closet support system from scratch, not relying on your RV walls - which are hardly more than 2x2's, with material you can not so readily repair in event of an oops. Yikes.

    Is it possible to put the stringer with in the wall? So it won't be seen?

    • @ZipZapDIY
      @ZipZapDIY  6 років тому +1

      that is a good idea, yes you can... you can either cut out the drywall and set the stringer in flush in that cutout across the studs or cut out the drywall, lay the stringer behind between the studs (like blocking when framing a house) and then repair the drywall over it.

    The shelving unit.....did you build it yourself or is it the type that you put together straight from a box and mounted to the wall? If you built it, do you have a video or instructions for it? Also how would you mount it to the wall?

    • @ZipZapDIY
      @ZipZapDIY  10 років тому

      The shelving is a closetmaid closet kit. It has a bracket for bracing to wall, and I used the same wall anchors in the video to brace it to the wall. no video of it being assembled, but it goes together like any flat pack furniture (think IKEA)
