Great video. I LOVE the dark gray version. The Max Bill Chronoscope is my favorite watch of all time. I have a unique perspective as a person who owns two of them (and I have the original Max Bill automatic with date with the original plexiglass crystal). I have a black dial with date and the plexiglass crystal, and the newer white dial with numerals and date with sapphire crystal. While I completely understand why people want the security and peace of mind of the sapphire crystal, the original plexiglass version is definitely prettier to my eye. The distortion and magnification is more pleasing, and the plexiglass version doesn't have the visible ring just inside the curve of the crystal, visible when you look at the watch from about 45 degrees. It's a minor observation, but the plexiglass version doesn't have this obstruction. I also should note that the plexiglass version is much more scratch resistant than people give it credit for, thanks to the sicrilan coating. I've accidentally bumped mine into door frames, loading the laundry, etc, and what initially looks like a scuff wipes off with a soft cloth. I don't know if yours does this, but my plexiglass version also has the typical loud and free-spinning rotor of the Valjoux 7750. My sapphire version has a much quieter rotor and doesn't spin nearly as long (typically 1/2 second rather than the 5 seconds the plexiglass rotor version spins...) Anyway, just thought I'd weigh in as someone who likes both crystal materials.
If there is one thing where Junghans absolutely has to become better at, is the quality + look & feel of their leather straps. I have owned 3 Junghans watches (and even visited the Junghans museum in the Black Forest), and the first thing I did was exchange the strap. We should not have to do this at the price level they are charging.
Their watches aren’t all that expensive, they are a good value. I’ve bought more expensive watches that came with much better straps- except they often are too small anyway. The point being, its a non issue if you are going to own the watch and wear it. Straps have a finite lifespan. I typically replace the strap very quickly regardless, save it for posterity.
Sapphire all the way. Great video as always. The Bauhaus movement has produced so much great design. I just looked at their website and their watches have piqued my interest! Thanks for drawing my attention to something other than Swiss made or Seiko.
I love the new design, particularly the fact (just a small detail for some, I know) the ‘made in Germany’ writting is not interrupted by the number 30 in the dial. I do feel the price is too step for the movement you get with it, so even loving it, I will pass. For that price I will go for one of the Nomos.
I really dig it. I think the changes are tasteful and remain true to the spirit of the Max Bill. I love the color and the textured strap you chose. Also a big fan of the movement.👍
Always loved this one. Feel like the newer looks are better suited, the silvery dial and the black (with mirrored markers) were interesting, but didn’t quite hold up in person.
I prefer this new model. The classic version also looks great but a little bit to grown-up, blingy and dressy for the daily use. This one looks more sporty and youthful but still has this sophisticated/intelligent appear
I don't have a Jungans watch yet but I have been tempted along the way. I fell into the Nomos camp possibly due to the sapphire crystal but even my 36 Ludwig has quite long lugs. As for the movement, the Valjoux 7750 is a very well proven work horse so no issues with that. The design is great with the day and date balancing the text at nine although I'm not too sure about the darker case finish so I'd have to see one in the flesh (always a good idea regardless of the watch). The hour counter is not resetting correctly on this one but should be a fault on this particular example, I've a few 775X based chronographs and none of them (so far anyway) have a reset issue. A great watch that might have stumbled back onto my watch list. Next time I'm at the AD Ill take a look. Always great to hear your views Max.
Lovely watch...the subtle colour choices are first class. I think I still prefer the original with the crystal, polished case and black and white CMF. But it's great to see Junghans pushing the technology envelope and developing a domed sapphire equivalent...I'm sure Max would approve 😊
That Junghans is beautiful. I have a Lorier Falcon 2 with a plexiglass crystal; I wasn’t sure about it at first, but I really like the distortion & “warmth” that it conveys.

I wish they kept the polished steel case, i feel it gave it a more classic look and less like a smartwatch. Same with the hands... why do the watch companies add something, then take something away ? Great everyday watch choice though, with the Day/date function.
Sapphire is sweet but on some watches i prefer acrylic. Frankly i like the shock resistance on acrylic. Youll probably not shatter the crystal, so i can trade that for some scratches i can buff.
..... I still think nothing beats the original Chronoscope with a black dial and only the date ...... the day display just defeats the purpose of such a simple dial design ....... Excellent video thanks ....... PS ... now I've got to clean the crystals of several watches after using your method of determining mineral or sapphire ...........

I regret buying a Junkers instead of the Max Bill. I like the Junkers, but don't love it. At the time my budget was limited... I should just have had more patience. Personally I like sapphire. I've had to baby too many watches that scratched too easily.
7:28 I've heard similar comments before. Considering no pool is 30m deep, is there a general sense that watches tend to overstate their reliability at water depths? Or is it the rate of pressure change that can compromise integrity - like diving into a 12ft pool is too risky for a 30m rating? Just curious.
I've yet to find a video with someone who has two Max Bill watches that are the same with an acrylic and a sapphire crystal. So a real comparison can be done between the two, looks, size, shape, color, weight. Kind of hard to compare two items without having both items on hand,
Have the older version, I like it, but thinking of selling it. Big reason, no running seconds, this is a big deal to me, could be the emergency room nurse in me, but besides that it's a major flaw. There is really no excuse since the 7750 supports it, if they want to keep it bicompact, dump the 12 hour register. Otherwise good review.,
I like the high contrast design very much, but I'm not a fan of the date function. The original design of Max Bill is much better and even more clean looking.

The day function destroys the look of the dial imo. The date frame is geometrically exact where a 3 o'clock numeral would stick. With the added day frame it looks very cluttered over there.
How were the chrono pushers feeling? I tried one on the wrist and they felt "flimsy". Not sturdy at all and the click action did not have a good feeling. Is the 2022 version better on this?
The black hands are insult to the original design. It almost starts to give it a "Cheap look" I would never pay that much for black hands, the polished chrome hands are timeless just the way original design was. I dont know what Junghans is doing wrecking their brand, they also spoiled black chronoscope by replacing chrome time numericals to some matte yellow numbers... cheap move. not buying junghans

I noticed the same thing about the reset, that would drive me nuts if it keeps doing it!
I have the max bill chrono plexiglass version. The hour counter does not reset to 12 when it went > 2hrs. Had to send it back for a repair.

This is one of the main reasons i dont wear my max bill chronoscope anymore. Inwas quoted around 350 to retrofit it with a new sapphire crystal

Very beautiful watch but the chronoscope's disadvantage is the lack of the second hand.
Your 12 hour register sundial hand didn't reset to zero when you pushed the reset pusher.

Then they will need to re-locate the subdials. Most brands don't do that and I guess Junghans doesn't want to either.

Um... at 5:43 when you reset the chronograph the 12 subdial doesn't reset properly. Might be time for a service already or am I missing something?

i hate the junghans and nomos style watch design. just donnoh why. just personally dislike such "designs" , especially on chrono...so hideous
