  • When my daughter Lisa attended the Manhattan School of Music in New York City as a master’s student, she recorded this lovely French art song, "Chère nuit" (“Dear Night”) by Alfred Bachelet, with her friend and accompanist Eun Jung Lee.
Lisa was studying classical voice with Marlena Malas of The Juilliard School at the time and was singing the lead role of Mimí in Baz Luhrmann’s Broadway production of "La Bohème" for which Lisa won a special Tony Award for Excellence in the Theatre.
The lyrics of "Chère nuit" were written by Eugène Adénis-Colombeau and describe the writer’s longing for the girl he loves as the sun goes down surrounded by the sweet perfume of flowers. The writer calls the night beloved because of the beautiful memories that are re-born in its serene calm.
