Beautiful playing. Richard does his sister proud. It's a shame she's not here to enjoy it. I bet she up in heaven jumping for joy at how much the carpenters are loved
I only think of what Karen could have done.I miss her everyday. KAREN CARPENTER WAS the best female vocalist of all time. I was so lucky to see the Carpenters in concert twice.
That's so funny cause I saw them twice too in 1973 at universal studios and at the MGM in 78 it was a good concert but Richard was having a hard time but he still played beautifully ❤
So nice to see Richard, now an old man but he is ok. Karen are very proud of him. Here we are in december 2022. Carpenter is part of our life. Regards from Brazil.
As I listen to Richard play I also can hear a soft and beautiful voice that was Karen. I miss her songs with the videos that make me think of yesterday.
I saw them in hershey pa. And so glad I did. They were both so young and vibrant, the beauty of the Carpenter's was their Sibling Love and respect for each other and their Talent. I miss you Karen, but know your in God's Loving Arms. And thank you Richard for keeping the Memory Alive.
On the day she died I took it so hard. I had just suffered my first miscarriage. I love playing their greatest hits CD in my car when driving on long trips. We still miss you Karen!
Good to see and hear Richard now. I did not fully appreciate what they did back in 1970's. Yes, there were many of us who were divided back then. So we're older now. Mellow now. And more grateful now...... Dean Seattle
Thank you for confessing your sin here! I always had to fight with people like you who tried hard to tell me that “it wasn’t cool to like the Carpenters”! I never listened to you, by the way; and I always thought that Karen was cooler than sliced bread. She was a gas for sure!
I really missed karen. I never get the chance to see her live cause sadly i was born right after she left us. But her music took me into her life and her journey.
Beautiful Richard I can hear Karen and all the Angels singing in Heaven! ❤️ No one is to blame for our lives except ourselves..Thank You for Sharing your music again.. Children need to hear this..
The Carpenters have always been very highly regarded in Japan. Richard is a virtuoso pianist. He was genius at picking out songs that highlighted Karen's God-given voice, and crafting their arrangements in the studio. He also composed the music for many of their hit songs. He never seems to get any recognition from the music industry for his contributions. Carpenters sold over 100M records! I hope Richard is blessed with some grandchildren soon!
In the sleevenotes of the album “Richard Carpenter’s Piano Songbook” (2022) he writes: “Not all that long ago, I was in Tokyo promoting the recently released "Carpenters with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra" album. While visiting one of the morning shows, I was asked to take a seat at the piano, and play "I Need To Be In Love", one of our biggest hits in Japan. My interpretation was born of the moment, but seemed to please my hosts. Stay with me, this is actually going somewhere. Not long after returning home, I received a call from a Rachel Holmberg, Senior Head of A&R with Decca Records, U.K., who possesses a lovely accent and a personality to match. Now, it wasn't all that long ago, that what happened in Japan, stayed in Japan. Like my piano solo. Not anymore. Through the miracle of modern technology, Rachel saw the morning show, heard my solo, and asked if I might be interested in recording an album of Carpenters songs along the lines of "I Need to Be In Love". In other words, solo. Just piano. Now. I've not only been into music since I was a kid, but records as well, and everything to do with them like their labels. In the late forties and early fifties, the Big Three labels were: Columbia, Victor, and DECCA. Bing Crosby was on Decca. As I asked Rachel if this was really what she and the label wanted, I could only think of my Mom and Dad, and what an enormous compliment this was to their boy, who never wanted to practice. I kept asking Rachel, if she was absolutely certain this is what she and Decca wanted, because to my way of thinking, this album would put a number of people to sleep, but she preferred to think of it as music to relax by. Either way, this was a challenge. For somebody who likes to turn everything into a production, like our records, to adapting them for solo piano was a tall order. But the piano is a remarkable instrument, with a remarkable range, and I believe I've given the songs chosen a fairly good reading. I thank Rachel Holmberg for giving me this opportunity, and her talented team for their enthusiasm and continued belief in this undertaking. Whether you've purchased this album for relaxation, or a good night's sleep, I truly hope you enjoy it. Richard” So… (Stay with me, this is actually going somewhere!) I think this was the early morning Japanese tv show that spawned the album!
Great get! And thanks for pointing that out. As I listened to "Richard Carpenters Piano Songbook," the emotions built up with each song until four songs in I got "Close to you." His arrangement and playing in that track were so spectacular that I was overwhelmed and turned it off and have not returned to it since.
i keep listening carpenters since it was the music my mama is singing, until im having kids of my own during sleeping time i let the song played in the night the whole album. until everyone fall asleep in our family room and now that im far from the family. working for a living and my kids sometimes play the song as well. they kept on playing this song in the night. im happy to hear the music that i keep my parents favorite music and also love by my kids. when i get to bed i sometimes played the song it kinda reminds me of the love of my life
Without Karen, the Carpenters were nothing, Richard could have been a great pianist and everything, but without Karen's voice, everything fell apart and was over. Rest in peace dear Karen, we love you and miss you. In 2024 you are still one of the best voices ever. 😪❤🙏🙏🙏

I put Richard Carpenter in the same bracket as Glen Campbell. Severely underrated as a player and equally as a songwriter.

One tear for karen
He is a good player, but without his sister, oh I don't know....
his chin wrinkle looks like he's wearing a mic
Deixemos o julgamento pra Deus.
