Hi Bricksie and Jose. Wow! The creative team is brilliant! The updates to the canal area and Venetian Houses are magnificent. This is exactly what the area needed! It has really enhanced the City beautifully. I agree with you Jose... I also think the roofs would look better in a uniform colour. Maybe maroon or brown? The small touches really pull this area together. The small docks with steps leading down to them is so clever! We need a few more gondolas. I can just imagine how gorgeous this area will be with the addition of light bricks. They will create such mood and atmosphere to the area. A fantastic update today guys!
Great job on the canal upgrades. Venice has lots of small restaurants along the canals that have outdoor tables with big umbrellas. A small strip of tables across from your venetian houses with restaurant facades behind them would give lots of great opportunities for easily visible story telling. Wedding proposals, a waiter that dropped and broke a dish, etc. Also, maybe a small walk up gelato shop with a line around the corner would be a classic Italian vacation look. Venice is also known for it's hat, mask, and jewelry shops, which could make for a great little store front.
The canal is being fed by the ocean. So it doesn’t need water coming down from the mountain. If you want to do that cool. But just wanted to make sure you’re not overthinking this.

Had a thought - if you are planning on adding lighting to your city, which I think you are planning on doing - something that would look lovely would be strings of micro-LED lights criss-crossing the canal area, all along that 'district;, maybe with some vines growing at the sides too to contrast the building colours.. Could be your 'romantic quarter' in your city - with a Venetian/Italian canal-side restaurant (with a rooftop seating area - opposite your existing Venetian houses, overlooking the canals... Having been to Venice there are lots of bridges going in different directions to connect everything and this new angled bridge might help connect that walk way rather than having the dead end/ lookout point but looks brilliant either way! Plus could be an interesting challenge making a bridge at an angle.
The canal and the city look amazing. The minfigs need a bridge connecting City Hall to the Parisian Restaurant. As it stands, it would be quite the journey on foot between the restaurant and the Venetian Houses.
The Venetian houses look great a quite authentic. The Grand canal and side canals are tidal and at times flood the walkways so many houses are raised high above the canal with floating docks for boats. Great work 😊
I would just add one of those brown ladders like you have on the old monkey exhibits to get down to the boats from the docks., use some plate with a clip on it to attach, then its all flat.
I'm kind of surprised that a 2x4 works for that elevation. They're not usually well dimensioned and can be wavy. Very handy though. The houses look great from the front with the new bridges. The mountain connection looks like it'll be challenging to get looking and feeling 'right', should be fun to see.

What If you fed the Canal from the far away mountain through a tunnel flowing under the Village area and come Out of the Side right behind the venetian Houses. this way you wouldnt have to think to much of all the different areas the watet of the hotspring hast to flow.. Keep up the good Work!!
It would be cool if you had that waterfall running into the canal powering a generator for the city on the cliff edge there! It’d fill the negative space and give your city green power! It could look cool and you could have guys in hard hats on the edge working the generator and a secret James Bond cameo on the side if you want. You could park the Aston Martin near by.
If you add a ladder to get on and off the boat instead of stairs you won’t lose much in the canal. Looking great so far tfs or build a dock .lol looks great lol
The bridges in Venice are different colours. You don’t need to change the colour ☺️ please don’t change to colour of the roofs either. I go to Venice all the time and these buildings are perfect in my opinion 🤗
I’m currently working on my winter village. It tops a cabinet in my entryway. You both inspire me. I’m trying to focus more on fun than functionality for me since it’s not permanent.
Looks great! If you feel like the dock on the smaller building is too high, you could build a small crane or winch on the dock for people to load the boats down below.
I think you need a bridge from the canal walkway nearthe standing hole over to the other side or continue the corner that ends in a dead end to the venetian house and turn to connect to walkway near bridge. Minifigs would feel stuck on that dead end. Then you can make the waterfall come in to the water between the 2 venetian houses.
The water flows into the canal from the ocean. it doesn't need to attach to the water source on the mountain. the natural spring can just flow into the creek. it doesn't need to be over complicated!
I know you were disappointed to lose the center mountain but I think the slower elevation rise front to back and urban transition left to right will be really cool in the end.
Looks great. Wouldn't it have been easier to keep the water at the same level of the venetian houses and make a little waterfall going down in the big canal? And then connect the higher level to the water coming grom the hill.
A Venetian handcraft market or a miniature St Mark's Square would fit nicely for the space across from the Venetian houses. Could always make this area into a Venice block.

Bricksie, look up brick sculpt here on the tube, he last clip, also 5 hours old, shows a very nice lego grid technique, that you might like. As for that bridge, can you add two antenna's on the side of that bridge, to better fit it in? O and did you look at robin hood bricks his brick cross station first build clip? He did some modifications, that I think you might like. Will you get two indiana jones venetiaan boats, from that movie boat race? James bond 007 also used that type of boat, ones or something quite similar to it, that is. Yes, you could incorporate two movies, if so wanted, in this clip it's setting. As for the water, could you put in a light raise to the road and that shop? That way you could put a low tunnel at the end of that front channel, towards that other standing hole, use the ninjago platform, add in some odd angles, there.
Why don't you build a weir in your canal, then the water doesn't have to be so deep near the Venetian houses. Especially since your water comes down from the mountain anyway.
I am not sure if river above the zoo makes sense. What about floods? What about redusing one elevated table behind the zoo? River will flow behind the mountain in ground level. And then there will be another mountain to the second elevated table. It will look like river in grand canyon? (Or elevate zoo to the higher level Or like someone else sugested - "canal is being fed by the ocean. So it doesn’t need water coming down from the mountain") :D

A lot of large American cities have cultural districts, ie Chinatown. Is there a way to put the Parisian restaurant with the Venetian houses to make a European district?

Agree 💯in the uk wate in canals can come from underground pumping (I googled it) so it doesn’t need an obvious “source”

I think accross the vencian houses should be something low like a square. Something like piazza san Marco with a bar and italian restaurants

The bricks underneath the vencian houses are like the real wooden pillars underneath all venecian houses immersed in the water 8-)

Zoo just doesn't look right in the current location. Move to the countryside. Replace zoo with bus station and loads of buses and minifigures.
The rumours i have seen for the next modular building is a corner pub, looks like you have a place for it already
To get the height you could have used a Duplo brick if you can put a 2 x 2 LEGO brick on the top
Maybe the Parisian restaurant opposite the Venetian buildings, but with a wide sidewalk between the restaurant and the canal...
