I have had one of the cole planters for about 30 years. It is a constant battle. Works great for green beans. Everything else just always has problems. You never ever put it down unless you are moving in my soil or it will plug up every time. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve had issues with it plugging in the drop tube as well. Very frustrating indeed. Unfortunately, by the time I work the bugs out every Spring, I probably could have just planted everything by hand. This is my second one and it doesn’t work as well as the other one I had. I had a chance to by a couple John Deere planter units and I honestly wish I’d bought those instead. Thank You for watching
@@MrSparks701 that’s what this was. I sold some other junk and should have bought that. They were on a 3-point tool bar. I had liked the fertilizer hopper because I’d sold my whole Cub planter unit
Hi Tom. Catching up on your past videos. I was able to purchase a Cole planter this year at super cheap. Late model with practically zero usage. It is set up as a three point. No extra gears but 4-5 plates. I intend to increase the granddaughter’s garden 6 fold next year and the Cole will prove helpful. I love all your buildings and appreciate the guidance. Thank you.
@@LedgemereHeritageFarm Between rain showers today I rechecked the Cole planter. I have 4 unused plates plus one I in the planter. In addition I “found “ 3 additional gears, an unused 10 and 12 and 14 that may have been used. I did not check what is in it yet, hopefully an 11. With a set of instructions as well. Been on a buying spree, now need to get on a using spree.
Excellent tutorial Tom! You said it right. When you're done using the planter or fertilizer hopper on the tractor, wash them out and clean them thoroughly. When they've dried, oil or grease them thoroughly otherwise the fertilizer residue with eat the metal like acid.
I’ve seen them afterwards. It’s like the salt spreaders we use in the winter. Some people use fertilizer spreaders for road salt and don’t wash them. I bought mine that way. 1 year old and frozen solid😵💫
Just used my fathers this morning to plant corn, beans and pumpkins. Nice planters, he loved his and had bought and traded them for years. Couldn't find his seed plates, but was able to order the ones I needed. I'm sure I'll stumble upon them eventually. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for the video. My 92 year old FIL has a Super AV that I started for the first time in 20 years yesterday. Now I'm trying to figure out how to rig a mule drawn Cole Duplex planter on the rear. LOL
@@LedgemereHeritageFarm Thanks for the reply. I noticed the depth adjustment on the 12MX Planter and I just went down to the shop and looked at the old duplex. There aren't any depth adjusment skids on it and no holes/slots for one to be mounted. I think I can fabricate something out of some 1.5" right angle . I wonder how the old timers adjusted depth control?
There are a couple of videos on my channel that show these two planters. One had a 3-point and the other had a 1-point. I’ve since sold both of these and got a 2-row IH planter. Thank You for watching
Can you please tell me how that cutoff band works in the fertilizer section? I had to make my own band from aluminum tubing and I'm almost done with it, but knowing how it works would help me finish and install it. Thank you.
I bought a used m12 in pretty good shape but was frozen up I finally got press wheels off greased up everything , spins pretty good on shaft and gears turn but when I put latch pin in it will not turn like it locks up any ideas would b helpful Tu
We used to sell corn roadside when was a kid. My brother in law planted with a 4-row planter, but dad and I would walk the whole 5 acre field planting by hand the empty spots the planter missed it where it didn’t come up. 😖

I found and quickly bought a nice Cole MX12 today. Looks same as new and came with factory deluxe 3pt with cultivator tines.

Thank You. It’s one of my favorite tractors.
Will watch this video later my dad passed away last night he was 86 he was ready to go told me not to worry everything was ok.
Please accept my heartfelt condolences. My dad passed at 86 also. Trust that he is in good hands. 🙏

If I remember correctly, it spins kind of like a salt shaker to adjust the flow rate. I’ve since sold it, I’m sorry I can’t out eyeballs on it

Where does the latch pin go? Mine only has a wing nut over the seed plate and will lock up without it on
@@LedgemereHeritageFarm in the press wheel my ? Is do the shafts just hold press wheel or is it supposed to turn

We have a knock off Planet Jr. But it still better than planting beans and corn by hand
