Another great FireWire gadget review! I'm using the MOTU Traveler (as I said in previous comments on your Traveler video), and it's being put to use nicely. And I like and respect your chops at video production. Your videos are easy to understand, logical, rational, well-thought-out. Keep up with the Fire-noodling. Oh, and which one gives up the ghost easier/sooner, the Traveler or the 828mk3 ? I can find either one here in Japan cheap on the used market but a Traveler is cheaper than a 828mk3. But if and when my Traveler dies, which should I buy to have in the wings as a backup?
The 828 MK3. Bad caps on the power supply. It's an easy fix if you're comfortable replacing them. My Traveler MK1 has never had a problem. I would keep an eye out for the Traveler MK3. Best of both worlds.
This was really interesting, thanks! I actually just picked up an 828 a week ago to use with my Dual G4 MDD under OS9; good to know I can also get it running under linux 🤘
@@austinnosa374 Good question - I just dug mine out and booted into Win10. Short answer - mostly? I needed to install ASIO for all, and some apps are a little quirky with it, but so far I've gotten Reaktor and VCV rack to work just fine. On Puredata, I had to select the 'Old MMIO system'. Trying to get it to behave as the default system audio device is a little goofy, but it "works". Hope that helps!
I am always motivated by such videos, ideal world, but here with ubuntu studio chance to get this up an running, some weired error messages with fado, jack, pulse. saturday is gone with all the tries and errors, I go back to my apple. I guess that a lot of steps in advance are missing. Is there no installation of ubuntuu, were it works out of the box?I can use jack, but with faddo i am lost. Any link to a list if steps to run ffado smoothly?
@@VennStoneI was able to get My ah zedr16 running with ffado, pipewire and ardour. My 828 is not recognized by ffado and pipewire, maybe interface is broken? For the ah zedr16 i only needed to deinstall qjack.
Thanks!
Awesome! Reminds me why I run Linux.

please test with xanmod kernel and Bitwig
I can not find the list of supported firewire interfaces on linux, can you send a link?
I've linked the list in the video description under "Linux Audio Interfaces"

Use the operating system that works best for you. I've helped troubleshoot FFADO several times in the Interfacing Linux forums. Might be worth a look.

@@frankmuelder4539 Correct, FFADO does not work the with 828. You will have to use the ALSA drivers.
Plz make a tutorial how to set up on ubuntu with pipewire or fedora with pipewire.
Unfortunately I use Debian and Jack.
