Venice, Italy. Maybe the worst city in Europe if you're on a cruise ship in the summer visiting for a few hours. Absolutely MAGICAL in the deep off-season, say, late January (now!) wandering the canals in silence and solitude, on a chilly; misty morning. Unforgettable.

I love Athens GREECE. It doesn’t have the typical european architecture but it is full of life. Locals are friendly. The food is incredibly delicious and cheap. I promised myself to go there every year. Worth the 24-hour plane trip from Sydney.
@ European: Classical big buildings in the Baroque, Renaissance, Paladian, or Gothic styles. Think of the Vatican buildings. But in Greece there are plenty of beautiful smaller ornate homes and apartments in various places like in the Plaka old town in Athens, at night they open them up and put out dining tables with candles for diners, it is so beautiful. Some of that style is duplicated in Little Venice, a canal area in London, built in white in Portland Stone with columns holding up the porches. ... beautiful. I love Greece, Santorini, Poros Island, Hydra Island, Syros Island, stunning and clear BLUE water!
As an American train enthusiast, I've been to Europe 16 times and visited 77 cities. I'll be going again in May and will add 5 more. I rate cities based on their trains, both urban and long distance. I've been to 5 on your list. My top 10: London, Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, Vienna, Stockholm, Budapest & Zurich.
@saulschlapik6818 I go for the trains too...Im flying Tampa to Amsterdam next month. Everybody asks " where are you going?" i say wherever the train takes me. I have a Eurail pass.
Istanbul is an amazing city. The architecture is patchy but that is only because most of it was built with timber but it burned down so many times it was never rebuilt to the same attention to detail. There are some buildings that are still in timber so you can imagine how stunning it was in the past. It is a beautiful city but it would be even more stunning if it had not been ravaged by fires.
Lisboa for me! Also add in Copenhagen (but stay over the Bridge in Malmo Sweden for much cheaper accomodation with excellent transport links across the famous Øresund.
Nice to see again some of the places i visit. I went to london , Ireland, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Madrid,Valencia, Rome, Munich,Rothenburg, Florence, Pisa, Sicily, Venice,Malta&Gozo they all have their charms ❤
I would find a way to add Zurich and Vienna. Zurich gives you very quick efficient access by train to almost the entirety of the country and is a gem in itself for a variety of reasons. There is no bad time of year to visit either.
@@adamcohen2632 It’s a nice elegant city. The train station is lovely too. If you like Zurich, you will like Turin which is one of my favourite cities and it has a beautiful train station as well.
I love Istanbul agree its a great place to visit and the change from neighborhood to neighborhood makes it so interesting and so much to explore - but its a crime to leave out Paris.
My No#1 city so far is Malaga instead of Madrid. Yes Madrid is beautiful (but kinda dirty). But Malaga old town was great. Easy access to Ronda, Sentinel, Gibraltar, Morocco, caminito del Ray. The public gardens are plenty, the tropical garden is beautiful. So much to do. The food, the market, the courtyard cafes and restaurants. Rooftop bars, bike paths, Beach. Great transit, trains, buses. No car needed. We were there end of March. Cut trip short left morning Holy week started. Went to Amsterdam another fav. Especially end of March to experience Keukenhof gardens. Love this city, the architecture, the canals, the crazy rushhour bike mania. Great infrastructure for transit trains trollys.
@Kakonan not what I experienced. Only there for 3 days and used transit exclusively. Walked ALOT. Transit stations were a little messy, but expected that. Just found Malaga transit much cleaner, inspite of being much much busier IMO. since covid I've become a germa-phobe when traveling.
Interesting!! I think I would share similar top10 but in different order. I just would change ur Spanish cities, swap Prague for Edinburgh, and definitely Lisboa over Porto. As I never been in Krakow yet, St Petersburg would close my top 10. 🌞✌️
Great content. Going to Rome in May. Have been looking for another another country to hop over to. Many of the cities you list were on my list. But after seeing this, leaning heavily to Athens or Madrid. Thanks for all the tips!!!
A great surprise to me was Turin, especially since I expected it to be an industrial town, due to the presence of FIAT, the automobile manufacturer. I agree with many of your choices, but not being a drinker, the night life is not important, which is what many younger ones want.
@@gianfrancobenetti-longhini8192 Turin is one of my favourites, it’s very elegant and has a nice river too… and I love the train station. Then I stopped in Milan, that has a very beautiful centre around the cathedral but the rest of the city is not that nice.
@@JIM-ot4ws Hope you can understand Italian, as this was taken from an earlier comment on a similar comment on. Milano. Google translator is useful if you have problems.
I've only been to Prague in that list, though I've also been to Lisbon. I go out of the UK for concerts, and it's taken me until my 40s to do so. I loved both cities I've mentioned, and I'm off to Prague again in May. I'll have to do the beer tour.
Burgas, Varna, Belgrade, Constanza, Bucharest - more or less in that order. If there's going to be a chance in the near future would also like to check out Odessa and Sochi - and that's about it. From your list: I like Porto, very special place, lot of steep staircases everywhere though 👍
My top five favs, in no order, 1) Stockholm, Sweden 2) Granada, Spain 3) Athens, Greece 4) Berlin, Germany 5) Paris, France and Rome, Italy - love them both for different reasons. Great video!
I have been to most of the countries you m mentioned, but March 2025, I am going to Sofia, Bulgaria, very reasonable, hotel, breakfast included, beautiful hotel, airfare under $2,000 from US for 1 week
@@conniedean3787 Plovdiv old town is a day trip from Sofia, it is gorgeous winding up a hill, with wooden houses painted in folky floral motifs. At the top is the music school and look down and you will see an ancient Greek theatre below.
@11:56 - my recollection of Athens is NOT a good one. I got hustled by this taxi driver who took me to night spots that I had not asked to go to ! I was afraid I'd never escape his clutches !! When we finally got where I wanted to go, I wound up paying him more than three times what the ride would have cost (which I found out only later), but was glad that I had finally escaped !
I find Porto architecturally far more interesting than Lisbon and a journey up the Douro valley is an unforgettable experience. A city I miss most on your list is Palermo because of its phantastic heritage of so many cultures and its interesting neighbourhoods like Monreale and Cefalù.
So I like your list and you've been to a lot more cities than I have but unfortunately I didn't have a great experience in Athens. I love Porto and Lisbon I'd probably put both in my top 10 (probably because I haven't been to 120 cities... more like 20). The ones that you mentioned that are at the top of my list to visit that I have yet to visit are Budapest, Krakow, and Istanbul. But I did love Madrid, Prague, Rome... I would also include for my personal preference Paris, Florence and Vienna! Cheers!
I like your list. I'm a lover of Athens in the early spring. Prague I saw in the 80s and early 90s. Stunning and cheap then. I went back a couple of years ago in winter to avoid the crowds and the magic was still there. I went to Cracow from the tantra mountain route in 1992. In winter. Cold. But your right, it's great. The Saltzburg Vienna Budapest route is great. I love grand coffee houses and classical music. Rome in the winter really is better than summer! Lisbon and Porto then on to the south of Spain in May. Eastern France to Switzerland is also good. I used to love Paris but it's been ruined. Saint Petersburg is also. Wonderful.
If Madrid had access to the Mediterranean, it would be THE perfect city. Great people, great art, unfortunately not the best place for vegetarians and vegans.
There are plenty of vegan and vegetarian friendly restaurants. By the way, the veggies all around Spain are next level. Regarding the access to the Mediterranean, it's just 1h50min away by train.
Athens you need to be very careful, stick only to the richer areas. I had my phone stolen and we saw lots of homeless people in the back streets smoking either meth or heroin so be VERY careful where your hotel is at or where you walk at night, you have been warned.
A lot of this is subjective, but I do feel Sarajevo is the most underrated city in Europe. Nobody goes there and it's one big 20th century history lesson.
@Maria-js9ou Yes, i am! That's my opinion! Maybe your are a kind of people who like cities like Amsterdam or Madrid...In North América is Las Vegas-Nevada or Sun City in RSA! (Play ground for adults)! I'm not that kind of people!!!
@ OMG, you couldn't be more wrong! I don't even know what Sun City is, which you describe as an adult playground; and NO, I do NOT like Las Vegas at all, even though I don't know it, I know what it is. But Warsaw? Ugly and boring?
Athens? That´s probably one of the ugliest capitals in Europe. Yes, it has nice people and the Acropolis, but one day is enough here. Same applies to Granada. When you´re done with the Alhambra and the old town - what else is there for a tourist to do? And Istanbul at No. 1? Oh, I disagree. I would put Sevilla, Stockholm, San Sebastian, Venezia, Paris on that list.
I was very happy to see Granada on the list. But I would also recommend Santiago de Compostela. It's been 20 years so maybe things have changed but such a beautiful, friendly and cheap city. Getting there is not as easy as some other destinations but for me it was worth it. Rome is beautiful but this was 35 years ago. I'm not sure if it would feel the same. We would gather at the Spanish stairs with friends. But is was 17. Nowadays this wouldn't be possible. Barcelona is still my number one because I know the city well. And that takes me to another destination: Sitges. It will only take a 20- minute trainride and I don't think it's a city but it feels like it. A large gay community but in the end it's all about rich families from Barcelona having their second house. Beaches and great food but not cheap. I did love Copenhague but also Exeter. I know it's all about (mainly) mayor cities but I'm curious about those 110 cities that didn't make it to the top 10.
I know most of the cities listed here, and I don’t disagree in general. But as a Parisian, and loving my home town, I cannot understand how Paris (or maybe France in general) didn’t make the cut ! Perfide Albion… Yes, of course I’m biased, doesn’t mean I’m wrong ! (And by the way, how about Vienna, one of my favorite cities in Europe…?)
Because lots of people find Paris and France in general very intimidating. Paris is fabulous and the whole of France is like a garden - it’s beautiful!
it is his top 10 amongst thousands of cities so it s not obvious for paris to make the cut. i can give you a hundred cities that i prefer to paris. for starters they don’t smell of piss and people are nicer. spoiler alert: i m french too
@ My comment was made in jest (half in jest), and I’ve lived long enough outside of France to know what a horrible reputation Parisians have, too often deserved unfortunately. As for the smell of the city, for me it smells much more of art than of piss… (what a strange comment.) Final note : I now live in Seville, and the city has a lot to offer, tons of art, life and charm… it certainly deserves a nod !
Cairo is far more exciting, original and layered … but I know - it’s not on the European territory although it could be when looking at ancient history
Personal top 10 (not in any order) 1. Dubrovnik 2. Seville 3. St. Petersburg 4. Santorini 5. Edinburgh 6. Barcelona 7. Florence 8. Rome 9. Prague 10. Paris/Vienna :) Honorable mention: Crete (Chania), Mykonos, Nice (France), St. Tropez, Aix an Provence, Verona, Bruges, York, Bath (UK)…(counting from the ones I actually have been)
Your list is O.K. from my point of view (the Balkan places I do not know). If I were to make a list, I would consider Berlin (Germany) and Edinburgh (Scotland)!
i have been to those and my top 10 doesn’t include cities in these countries. the people, is a criteria for me, maybe for this guy too. btw he actually mentioned Vienna when talking about Madrid, so you can shake your feeling, judgy judgington. also a guy that has been to Tirana and Sarajevo, surely has been to Paris and Berlin for instance
No Austria, Germany, France , Benelux , Switzerland, Nordic or Baltic therefore you ignored a whole portion of Europe. Which is a shame. Seems you like tourist traps.
I am an Italian, I really appreciate that Rome is in second place but Istanbul does not even appear in my personal list while in first place in mine there is COPENHAGEN.
Last year ,22 million people visited Istanbul and It was chosen as the most visited city in all over the world by the tourism authorities .There must be something wrong with your gusto ! Regards from the unique Istanbul .
I think you did not see Istanbul, it is in 30 countries i have visited, my favorite city. I have seen Rome, Florence, Venice, Bologna, Siena, Pisa and like them all, but Istanbul has both historical and natural beauty, few cities have them both. Rome has historical beauty, Rio de Janeiro or Sydney has natural beauty, Istanbul has them both, that's very unique.
Thanks for sharing your list. I do wish you hadn't described so many places as 'vibrant' which is becoming the most over-used word online. Except for 'Iconic'. Thanks for not saying that one. :)
Europe has a tonne of beautiful, interesting and exciting cities and there is little point in putting them in any particular order as it all depends on a personal likings and the travel experience of the traveller. But, even that I'm not French, or a Brit, I find your list that doesn't have Paris or London in it, a little bit strange. Those two are the most visited cities in Europe and there are reasons for it. I guess you wanted to give a chance to some other, less known places to broaden horizons of many travellers and thank you for that. From my perspective, I would add Dublin, Glasgow, Barcellona, Sevilla, Valencia, Monte Carlo, Florence, Bologna, Venice, Trieste, Vienna, Salzburg, Lucern, Lugano, Munchen, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Brussels, Antwerp, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Bergen, Oslo, Tallin, Riga, Warsaw, Gdańsk, Wrocław, Bratislava, Oradea, Brashov, Bukarest, Belgrade, Sofia, Plovdiv, Lubliana ... As you can see the list of "best cities" keeps on going and there is no way to fit them all in just 10. Sorry, I haven't been to Geneva but I presume it's also a stunning city. And sorry again, Russia in not in Europe for me since 2022.
the fact that they are the most visited does not mean they have to be on the top 10 of someone preference. I actually would not put London in the top 60
@@MrEleaffar83 I disagree, I put London at no 4, but I lived there for a year and once you explore it you find out how beautiful and interesting it really is in so many places. I mean how many people visit these places during their short stay: Regents Park canal, Little Venice, Greenwich Village, Richmond on the river, Natural Science Museum, the food hall in Harrods, the tree lined avenues in Kensington or Bayswater, old pubs along the riverbanks of the Thames in Hammersmith. “He who is tired of London is tired of life!” (I wish I could show you my London…)

Vienna, Seville and Florence
Florence is Fantastic! Side Trip to Pisa!
@jamesalexander5623 Siena too
Florence cathedral and Milan cathedral and Seville we’re all amazing!
Helsinki , Reykjavik , Copenhagen , Tromso , Barcelona , Valencia , Tallinn , Seville , Stockholm , Oslo.
I love Istanbul agree its a great place to visit and the change from neighborhood to neighborhood makes it so interesting and so much to explore - but its a crime to leave out Paris.
Fantastic choices. I’ve been to all 10 and loved each one…
Madrid is one of the cleaniest cities in Europe.
🌞✌️
Great video! Thank you.
Great content. Going to Rome in May. Have been looking for another another country to hop over to. Many of the cities you list were on my list. But after seeing this, leaning heavily to Athens or Madrid. Thanks for all the tips!!!
I see some posts of how Many ferries are a good price and are unique. What are the best ferry trips that are scenic? thanks
Palermo is a great place to visit.
The Bosphorus is not a river
Is that what he said?!
Basque country.
Its spectacular.Landscape Food People...
Comrade! What about Edinburgh!?
Beautiful if you enjoy all buildings blackened by soot, mildew.

Varsovie, définitivement ! E B C Warsaw, European Best City
@sebastianbaxter3761
😏 on dreary and gloomy list?
Thanks ❤, been to 6 of your fav... I ❤ Amsterdam, Vienna, Barcelona, Brussels too
Bologna, Copenhagen Bergen and Vienna are good
My top five favs, in no order, 1) Stockholm, Sweden 2) Granada, Spain 3) Athens, Greece 4) Berlin, Germany 5) Paris, France and Rome, Italy - love them both for different reasons. Great video!
I agree with most
of your choices except I would swap out Barcelona for Athens. Istanbul is amazing.
Prague is very nice. I like how you positioned Prague
Since I love Prague, Budapest and Rome, upvote from me. I haven't been to Istanbol yet. Why you didn't include Paris?
the French.....
Stockholm, Haarlem, London…
Seville in Spain
I find Porto architecturally far more interesting than Lisbon and a journey up the Douro valley is an unforgettable experience. A city I miss most on your list is Palermo
because of its phantastic heritage of so many cultures and its interesting neighbourhoods like Monreale and Cefalù.
Im guessing you haven't been to San Sebastian.
Excellent choices! Congrats
Love Istanbul! Lots to see and very friendly people. Great shopping in the Grand Bazaar.
Lisbon,Prague,Rome,Budapest,Sarajevo,Vienna,….
Porto my city❤
A lot of this is subjective, but I do feel Sarajevo is the most underrated city in Europe. Nobody goes there and it's one big 20th century history lesson.
I agree, support for Sarajevo❤️
Oh man, Bosphorus is NOT a river🤦🏻♀️ it is a sea-strait between Black Sea and Marmara Sea. Otherwise great video, greetings from Istanbul.🙋🏻♀️
For me, i love all you Europe! My top 10: - Lisbon; Bruges; Tallinn; Stockholm; Prague; Rome; Berlin: Paris; Warsaw and London! And many others! 🇨🇭🇪🇺
Nothing compares to Amsterdam.
@jeanpaulfelix4095 depends on what you' re looking for!
Come on, Tallin ? Warsaw ? Are you serious ?
@Maria-js9ou Yes, i am! That's my opinion! Maybe your are a kind of people who like cities like Amsterdam or Madrid...In North América is Las Vegas-Nevada or Sun City in RSA! (Play ground for adults)! I'm not that kind of people!!!
@ OMG, you couldn't be more wrong! I don't even know what Sun City is, which you describe as an adult playground; and NO, I do NOT like Las Vegas at all, even though I don't know it, I know what it is. But Warsaw? Ugly and boring?
Ljubljana!
My favourites are Kilkenny and Glasgow. Many of the cities on this list are tourist traps where you might miss the real
vibe of the country..
Munich Frankfurt Prague Vienna Zurich Budapest
Amsterdam Brussels
Istanbul the best city!!!!!!
Cairo is far more exciting, original and layered … but I know - it’s not on the European territory although it could be when looking at ancient history
Lisbon, Budapest, Copenhagen,Vienna, Prague
Thanks, Please forward these to the cruise lines since the larger cities are rude to cruisers. Also the cruise lines need new places !!
Saint Petersburg, Seville, Florence? Athens is filthy, in my opinion, since I stayed there for 2 months.
To each their own
MADRID. FRIENDLY. VIBRANT GORGEUS
1. Budapest 2. Lisbon 3. Venice 4. London 5. Paris 6. Vienna 7. Bergen 8. Seville 9. Barcelona 10. Genova
Worthy mentions are Istanbul, Athens, Pisa, Warsaw, Prag, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Brugge, Leiden and San Sebastian.
I will replace Madrid with Barcelona
Personal top 10 (not in any order)
1. Dubrovnik
2. Seville
3. St. Petersburg
4. Santorini
5. Edinburgh
6. Barcelona
7. Florence
8. Rome
9. Prague
10. Paris/Vienna :)
Honorable mention: Crete (Chania), Mykonos, Nice (France), St.
Verry nice. Like to listen. Somehow i cant get rid of feeling that you have never been in france germany austria switzerland. Othervise well made
i have been to those and my top 10 doesn’t include cities in these countries. the people, is a criteria for me, maybe for this guy too. btw he actually mentioned Vienna when talking about Madrid, so you can shake your feeling, judgy judgington. also a guy that has been to Tirana and Sarajevo, surely has been to Paris and Berlin for instance
No Austria, Germany, France , Benelux , Switzerland, Nordic or Baltic therefore you ignored a whole portion of Europe. Which is a shame.
Seems you like tourist traps.
I agree on many but especially Porto, Granada. Need to hit up Greece. Rome is amazing but the crowds...
I am an Italian, I really appreciate that Rome is in second place but Istanbul does not even appear in my personal list while in first place in mine there is COPENHAGEN.
how can you not like Istanbul?? have you actually been there?
Copenhagen instead of Stockholm ? Or you don´t know Stockholm ?
Madrid ❤ Sevilla
My favorite is Prague
My top 10 from 1 to 10 are London ,Lisbon , Athens, Gdansk,Venice ,Munich, Florence ,Tallinn Luxembourg, York.Enjoyed your video 👍,
Madrid! Always. Perfect city.
Thanks for sharing your list. I do wish you hadn't described so many places as 'vibrant' which is becoming the most over-used word online. Except for 'Iconic'. Thanks for not saying that one. :)
Gdańsk❤
The Baroque city of Vilnius, Lithuania
I mean how many people visit these places during their short stay:
Regents Park canal, Little Venice, Greenwich Village, Richmond on the river, Natural Science Museum, the food hall in Harrods, the tree lined avenues in Kensington or Bayswater, old pubs along the riverbanks of the Thames in Hammersmith.
“He who is tired of London is tired of life!”
(I wish I could show you my London…)
Istanbul is truly great.
Strelecky ostrov - rifle men island. Reminiscence of military past of the island. 👍
Florence? 😢
Love it
For me :Bratislava ,Budapest ,Prague and London
Yes, Budapest is fabulous!!!
Bratislava really? Why not Vienna?
