Imagine how bad this movie would have been without Gary Oldman's performance in the title role, his Portrayal as Dracula for me, is the best ever on screen.
@@Cum007 That's where fight choreographers come in (using swords, etc). Coppola needed that to properly stage the scene. Both were frustrated because Coppola wasn't aware of what was needed. It worked out in the end. Directors are human. Neither should be disliked.
as a person who works in the film industry, you deal with all kinds. Gary isn't a a hole. He takes his job seriously, you can respect that. plus it is a rehearsal your meant to talk it out. So when you actually roll the camera that wouldn't happen and everyone knows what to do.
So basically Gary is responsible for the Bat-human Dracula which also happens to be one of the iconic moments in the film. Oldman is not an asshole, he is a Genius!
Gary has been PROVEN to of abused TWO of his exwives but even worse is that he forced his children to suffer PARENTAL ALIENATION by forbidding them to even see their own MOTHER after they divorced which has broken her and PERMANENTLY caused the worst abuse possible to his own sons. Therè is no excuse for him to do this except NARCISSIST abuse due to his alcoholism and drug abuse. He continues to this day to blackmail his sons this way so sadly it is an UNDENIABLE FACT HE IS AN ASSHOLE. It broke my heart to discover the abuse of 5 victims as I previously believed he was a good man but this shocking inforrmation is true and we can't hide from it. I wish he were a better father im DISGUSTED.
He's not being an asshole, he's being a consummate actor trying to get the best out of Ford, himself, and the scene. That's why he's one of the best fucking actors there's been.
Gary Oldman is absolutely right. That scene was wrong, Dracula not frightened his opponents and needed a change. So they created the human bat, and the scenes made one more film creepiest. A normal actor is there would be limited to fulfill its role, Gary instead strives to improve the film, and has the courage to do it against the director of the Godfather, chapeau!. So would need to be all the actors.
Since when does expressing concerns and providing feedback in a civil manner make somebody an asshole? Like seriously, what the heck, dude. Gary wasn't even being condescending there or anything, he just expressed his concerns in a civil manner during a rehearsal - this is like the best possible scenario how a problematic scene could be handled.
Looks more like Coppola doesn't know what he's doing and that he came unprepared. Oldman just ask for more specific instructions on what is expected of him.
Isn't this what rehearsals are for? To bat ideas around and work out what the scene will be? You can't expect anyone, even the director, to know exatly what they want out of a scene at this stage. Give them all some leeway here. Sure, it can be messy and frustrating, and it might even seem impossible, but look at the final product. This is how the sausage is made.
Not an aholei dont think, he needed something that was not in the script. In the end they did that, they made him into a creature they feared and the scene worked. Its very presumptuous to label someone an ahole from an edited behind the scenes video without context. I personally think Mr Oldman is a genius. The beauty of opinions is everyone gets to voice one, on the internet they get to talk in ways they never would in real life.
Every two people are a different mix, if someone takes a disliking to you at first you have no chance, if they take the time to listen to you, then all can be good, all depends on patience/state of mind/and life knowledge.

I'm not there on the set but from this footage, it just looks like he's showing his frustration on his sleeve a little too much, but not really "asshole" material if you ask me. Just seems like a complicated project, I know the frustration. Not from acting, but from being in a band with 5 people for instance. Rehearsals can be a headache and then some.
Most baby boomers are very pragmatic and they don't beat around the bush if Anthony Hopkins can clash with Gary Oldman yet give him respect at the same time that's got to teach you something about generational rifts as a xennial 24 years apart from the boomers I have not gotten along with my fair share of baby boomers out there but I still respect them in the end of the day depends on the situation

1992 They were all making fortunes beyond most armchair watchers of this video clip on youtube could ever dream now and then. Who really cares? Big deal!
Is that what he wants as a director, people to fear him? The reason I ask this, is I don't really think he's much of a director if that's high on his list of priorities.
Gary is the only good thing about the movie. Coppola has been a flash in the pan for 40 years. His winery and pasta sauce are more important to him than his film legacy... which Oldman is trying to protect for him. Imagine having to act against a mimbo like Keanu Reeves when you're a legend like Gary Oldman.
Gary was at the peak of his alcoholism in the early 90's and was fired from films because he quite often forgot his lines. I guess this video was about the frustrations Francis felt as well
He was an alcoholic but he did not get fired from films, he turned them down because he didn't like the scripts. If you are talking about Star Wars Episode III. He was not fired, thats what was reported and it was wrong. He quit because it violated the rules of The Screen Actors Guild, which he supported. Maybe get your facts straight before saying anything.
“Gary Oldman wants to do a good job because he’s passionate “
There, I fixed it.
“Coppola passes the buck on direction and demands his actors create the story arc while he turns the camera on and off.”
@@kermitwilson Coppola like his bestie George Lucas are amazing story tellers but lazy filmmakers. Although Lucas takes it to a different level bad
So an actor trying to understand exactly what he needs to do makes him an asshole... I think not.
Gary wasn't rude or anything, he was frustrated but remained civil. How is he asshole?
Exactly! I thought the same thing. He’s just trying to understand the scene and how to play it.
Maybe it was Anthony Hopkin's opinion?
Imagine how bad this movie would have been without Gary Oldman's performance in the title role, his Portrayal as Dracula for me, is the best ever on screen.
It's the best thing about the film, apart from the visuals.
If actors are lost, you have to help. You have to understand. That's directing.
Seeing this made me immediately not like Coppola.

Stupid video title. Oldman wasn't wrong.
Yeah frickin' click-bate title :/
Maybe it's all director speak, but I don't understand anything Coppola is saying.

Reeves is standing there clueless as usual
Chocolate teapot
He's like Whoa guys!!!
How dare Gary Oldman ask questions, he should have just did what the director wanted him to do which was......the director didn’t know.
Bad title. I did not think gary was being an a hole. He was an actor getting into the role asking for clarification & gave his input.
Gary Oldman seems pretty rad to me !
