  • In this installment of the C21 Poetry Project, member Debbie LeGare performs Mary Oliver's "Hallelujah."
Mary Oliver was a poet whose work was immersed in nature, colored by the long walks in the wild she loved taking. She won the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize, and in 2007 was announced to be the USA's best-selling poet.
If you’ve been to one of our C21 programs, you know we are not just about inspirational singing. Our programs weave in poetry and messages of social justice, consistent with our mission of empowering those who need us most through beautiful, uplifting music, but also through words that elevate the human spirit.
Some poems will be familiar to our supporters, but most will be new. They include verses by Mary Oliver and Clarissa Pinkola Estes, whose works graced past C21 programs, as well as Elizabeth Alexander, Nikki Giovanni, Victoria Safford, Naomi Shihab Nye, and Nobel Prize laureate Wislawa Szymborska, among others. Please join us as we present relevant voices from the present and past as we strive to convey the power of expression, from the personal to the universal.
