What a brilliant video Steve and well done, some great results. Did my first local show this year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Ours has been running for 97 years now. So it’s great that people still support these local shows. Have a great week…Pete.
Glad you enjoyed it, Pete. Post COVID has been a struggle for many shows - people lost interest after 2 years on no-shows. Thinks are looking up now though!
Poured here last night 👍 but then the thunder lightning and high wind started 🤦♀️ but today just rain and we are ok with it as it’s much needed. Great show great job 👏 on your wins, Ali ☔️⛈️🇨🇦
Brilliant, very well done. I used to enter the cookery sections of the show too but it is too tempting now with my diabetes! Showing veg is easy compared to jams, cakes etc as it is objective with a defined set of rules, where the cookery classes are largely subjective: if the judge thinks the cake has too much of a lemony flavour then it is marked down. Yet it could be the nicest cake ever to you! LOL
@@DigwellGreenfingers Doubt that had anything to do with it but thanks all the same, it was more likely those hands of yours, some compost, feed and some water maybe even a little talk🤣🤣
Congratulations Steve 🏆 I have been studying your vlogs on showing and think I'm organised for our local show this weekend 🤞 Can I be preparing onions in advance? Practiced on my spare shallots and thanks to you I've got the knack now 👌 😊
@@DigwellGreenfingers thanks so much for the quick reply Steve 🤗 I'll get on to them today 👌💚🤗 at least it's one thing I can get on with before Saturday panic sets in 🤣🧅
@@gardenaddict See if you can find old photos of the show and look if the onion tops are tied straight or with them folded down, or maybe the schedule will say. No point folding them if not needed - one less hassle!
Hi Steve, Well done on all your wins wow amazing, quick question at your plant sale I bought a prickly cucumber plant that you said “is a cucumber but isn’t a cucumber” well it’s full of fruit which is white and full off spikes, so you happen to know when or what colour to pick it at? As I’m not sure exactly what I have grown I have no idea when to harvest them, the plant is amazing and has overtaken my runner bean arch, thank hun, great video as ever x
Ha, it is an achocha. A Bolivian Cucumber. I have 4 growing and yes they are rampant. Harvest them at 3cm long to eat whole and fresh in salads etc or allow to get bigger for cooking but you'll need to deserd them
Congratulations Steve. You did brilliantly. Great video. Happy gardening 🙂
Cheers Bea! Have a good 'un.
Always look forward to this Steve, well done.
♻️Happy gardening, Terry King.
Cheers, Terry. I was impressed that the show was well subscribed. Hopefully things are picking up for the village shows!

The footage of the fruits looked so incredible! Congrats Steve! Take care.
They were great! I wish it was a bit easier to film, but it is so cramped in the hall that i cannot do things justice.
@@DigwellGreenfingers I know what you mean about filming in cramped/crowded areas. We add weather to our list ... outside venues!

You did pretty well in the show. The Torongina tomatoes are quite good and I doubt anyone else had them. 😃

Well done and I wish we had shows like that in nz but we don't really. We get the odd wee show and i won 2nd for my Damson jam this year. So proud.

Yes, prep the onions as soon as the tops dry out (or sooner). They score more points if they have a well cured skin.
