I'm guessing no one told you more about this song. This song was written about the survivors and victims of the Columbine High School massacre. The dialogue in the song are actual quotes from a conversation that one of the victims had with one of the shooters (according to the survivors). "Good wombs have borne bad sons" was written by one of the shooters in a letter to his mother. The lyrics (that are not sang) end with "Four pink ones
Nine blue ones Two black ones In memory of the redeemers 20.4.1999
" which, I guess, refer to the candles (mentioned just before the song ends) that symbolise the ones who died: four girls, nine boys and the two shooters and the date is obviously the day of the massacre.
Tarja once said in an interview that the massacre had a bigger impact on Tuomas compared to the other band members, since he had been an exchange student in the US and had more connections to the country.
And since you asked, the background male vocals are by Ike Vil.
Tarja, our original Goddess 😍 I was at 3 Nightwish concerts in the Tarja era, also on this tour, I even have a picture with her in their tour bus! Man, what a memories! I drove 2000km to 2 of those concerts, waited for them in front of the tour bus at -20°C, and guys talked to me and my friend for 15 minutes without ever saying we have to go, they even thanked me for driving so far to get to the concert, I was blown away by how kind they were. What made me fall in love with Nightwish when I heard them for the first time after Oceanborn album was released was this incredibly powerful mix of metal, symphony and Tarja's operatic voice, it was something new and mind blowing. When they announced they are parting ways with Tarja it was devastating for us OG Nightwish fans, huge sadness because this unique creation was broken. And when Tuomas brought in Anette who is more like pop rock singer it was even more devastating cause we knew all the songs from the first 5 albums would now sound like shit! Although she was good on those 2 studio albums. But bringing Floor to Nightwish was a masterpiece move by Tuomas, now things are again good in this world. But there is one CRAZY CRAZY song from the Annete era you have to react to, it's the Scaretale, and this video which mixes the scenes from the Imaginearum movie with live video, cause official video is pure shit, please don't do that, this is the one: ua-cam.com/video/rnYrscO5eN8/v-deo.html

"Sleeping Sun" for me is still the absolute Tarja signature song. Floor is not bad but i have listened to Tarjas version soooo damned often.
Maybe it would be the same with "Walking on the air", my second favorite after Sleeping Sun, but i also have never seen / heared a Floor version of that one till now.

To me Sleeping Sun, Ghost Love Score, Nemo, Planet Hell are some of the songs that to me sound better with Tarja.
Away is also a terribly underestimated ballad! Btw,i think i've listened to Sleeping Sun at least 2000 times and every single time tarja sang it! 😊

In my opinion, the best Anette songs are Slow,love slow, Sahara and Scaretale.... Nobody could sing those like her!
@@dianamartinez1962 Agreed, Sahara is such a bop for me :) Considering Dark Passion Play wasnt written with any singer in mind Anette did a great job. Imaginaerum was written with her as the established vocalist. She didn't have the classical range of the other two singers that people love but she was great in her own right I think. That being said, Floor is my personal fave 😊

Do you have 'From Wishes to Eternity (2001 release)' live DVD as well?
Tarja changed her vocal approach from around 2002, this change can be heard in ''End of an Era (2006 release)' as well as the 'Century Child' album and 'Once' studio albums. Compare 'From Wishes to Eternity (2001 release)' live to ''End of an Era (2006 release)' live.
Tarja wasn't very well (sick) for the 'End of an Era' concert (Hartwall Arena, Helsinki on October 21, 2005) and that may have been a reason or contributing factor for the vocal differences between 'From Wishes to Eternity' and 'End of an Era'.
Regardless, 'End of an Era' is yet another an excellent performance from Nightwish - enjoy!

I can recommend the Lowlands Festival in the Netherlands from August of the same tour and year 2005. She did not have the flu then. Outdoor festival lacks the video element and effects of the arena but the crowd size is amazing. They closed out the festival on the Saturday night.

Tarja and the older songs are the reason why Nightwish has such a strong fanbase, but Floor is the reason why they're still alive today... Those two, along with the band, make magic!! (P.D. don't get me wrong, I off course recognize and admire the talent of Tuomas, Marko, Emppu, Jukka, and now Troy and Kai).

Para mí el mejor dueto es el de ella con marco en canciones como planet hell, the phantom of the opera, the siren, i wish i had an ángel, etc. Yo no me puedo acostumbrar a Floor por eso sigo la carrera solista de Tarja. Deberías escucharla en supremacy o victim of ritual (Woodstock), innocence, dead promises, Shadow play, anteroom of death, serene, mystique voyage etc
They have had three female singers in the history 7:57. Naturally this fits to Tarja like all of the five first album songs cause Tuomas has planned so.

Kinslayer: a person who abandons their blood or betrays their family.
The song is written about the victims of the Columbine High School massacre.
The dialogue in the middle of the song quotes the actual phrases between the killers and their schoolmates during the shooting. (According to those who survived)". Sad times and Toumas really felt that sadness at the time. 😥
One of my personal favorite songs...you are right there is no other song like this one and it is definately one of the songs that i prefer to listen only from Tarja..i love Floor too of course..
I have heard this song so many times, since there where only 3 Nightwish album by then, there was less songs to listen to. In the rock cafe I always went to, either this one or the song Wishmaster was played about every weekend if not every day at some point.
good to appreciate both vocalists, don’t forget Annette, Tarja had some very unique songs that made Nightwish a unique band and Floor enabled them to keep going and stand the test of time… still going strong 20 years +
Remember, the guys knew that this was the last show with Tarja. And possibly the last for the band. Hense the turmoil in Poet And Pendulum.

Nightwish had 3 singers in their catalogue, not just 2.... let's not erase Anette. Yeah they have some other songs that have plenty this staccato style singing (and not just the ha-ha-ha staccato). Yeah I really like the tempo changes, the dropping of instruments, it changes all the time. I've heard a lot of songs that stay pretty much the same from start to finish, and it's SO boring. NW songs usually are not like that.

Floor has the vocal energy, but not the vocal weight to pull it off. Tarja's voice is darker and "heavier" than Floors.

Tarja have moments, Floor is always pro. Tarja dont has voice chest, only head voice... but i love both.. y more dificult sing powerfull with chest than head voice, u need learn a little of singers..for something, vocal coaches are more surprised with floor than with tarja .. there is a tangible difference between the two .. and I agree that tarja has a darker voice .. but I need more than that..i am a big fan of nightwish for 20 years.. i really apreciatte tarja era

"Dead Boy's Poem" is the best example of this, she also dips down into chest voice in "The Phantom on the Opera", "The Siren", "EverDream" and "Dead to the World". Hey I noticed you haven't done a reaction to "Dark chest of wonders". It's the opener song of Wacken and has that classic Nightwish symphonic metal sound to it.
I would like to suggest a cover that Tarja made of Rammstein's song "Ohne dich". The cover was extremely beautiful. It was recorded at a church in Wacken. Tarja is accompanied only by a piano, a cello and a violin. Alright so this song along with i wish i had an angel are what got me hooked...... Tarja is great but since you made the statement i think it only right you react to floors version i recently watched the decades live in Buenos Aires 2019 version of Kinslayer and i firmly believe its one of if not the best live recording of the band period so far its amazing..... by which i mean the whole concert is epic..... my top 3 lives are Wacken 2013, Tampre 2015, and decades live in Buenos Aires 2019.......

well, in Floor's version we have soft quasi-classical approach with Marco's slight involvement and with Tarja you have a powerful, gritty delivery clearly bringing across its ominous message
@@faiffull3532 In listening to 6 early NW songs I find that my primary focus is about 60% on the band and 40% on Tarja. Maybe the band was louder back then and overpowered her. As Elvann has stated in her reactions it is sometimes difficult to understand the words in the Tarja songs. The vocals on each song sounds pretty much the same, without enough variety to keep my attention through a complete song let alone for consecutive songs. The one exception is Tarja's rendition of Phantom of the Opera. That being said, I greatly prefer Sarah Brightman's voice on the Phantom to any of the NW singers.
@@jamesallen1153 ..she kept mine and vast legions of her past and current fan's, rapt attention for decades, so i suppose its all a matter of taste...she is often at a volume much louder than the band....if you choose to concentrate on the band than thats also your option...the point being, that Floor'uses a rather soft-quasi classical approach on this and numerous other Tarja era songs and that is not in my preference...i 've been a Floor fan since the very early days and am rather disappointed in her rather relaxed approach, of late...best regards
@@faiffull3532 I get why fans from the early NW days are forever enamored with all that is Tarja, but I first discovered NW of the Floor era (about a year ago) after months of ignoring the many UA-cam reactions that I saw posted. Finally, after watching all the Freddie Mercury and Gaga performances that can be found on the Internet, I clicked on GLS Wacken 2013. And, that was the beginning of my NW rabbit hole. Had I first clicked on a Tarja performance I might have developed a stronger connection with her, but not being an opera fan, probably not. You're exactly right. It is a matter of taste. I'll always prefer a classical style and a powerful belting style to an operatic style, regardless of who the singers are. But for those who have a taste for opera, I can understand why they would prefer Tarja's performances. On a side note - I really like Tarja's personality. She seems to be a very classy and genuine person with a sharp wit and a great sense of humor. She and Floor appear to have a genuine fondness for one another and I really enjoy seeing them together.
@@jamesallen1153 ... absolutely...i love Floor as well, particularly in her early years, and her potential for a great delivery is always there...it is believed that Tuomas still resents Tarja and her signature classical approach so Floor is in a difficult position of pleasing him yet her quasi-classical voice ( and it is by no means, intended to sound disparaging) just sounds unnatural to me...in the past she used a beautiful classical metallic mix...love her aggressive side though and ,of course, the patented hair tossing...how do like her performance on the new album?
