My Sub compact tractor wants to be just like that skidder some day! I need to get someone here soon to drop my ash trees. The guy loading the truck knew his stuff!
Thanks Bryce A year ago, I thought perhaps we had dodged a bullet. Our ash trees appeared to be healthy yet. By fall, they were all dead. We’ve been told that this species of insect comes from China!
@@realSaPLife , not sure what your concern is here. The lumber is kiln dried. If you’re worried about an infestation of the beetles, their damage is done. They already killed the trees.
Nice logging video, I was oohhing right along with you at the end hoping he was going to flip that truck over. Thanks for sharing and hope you have a blessed week my friend.
Wired seeing nice long logs, cut short.. and a hard weed grapple. Used to be a few of them around here, but they get bent up loading big wood. Even the hard weeds here, are shipped long. The longer the log, the better the mills will pay per board foot.. because they have more options for milling. Pretty cool! Thank you Gary!!
If you listen closely, Jake and I are talking while he is loading. Jake was telling me that his Dad used to take your bsll cap off with the grapple when he loaded trucks! Now THAT’S an operator!!!
There are some big advantages to using this type of grapple. For one, you can let cable out and pull logs out from places you can’t go Like for instance across a gully. That big elm got hung up on the stump. They were able to release cable and maneuver the skidder into another angle to get it away from the stump Kenny told me that he prefers thi smaller Timber Jack skidder over the bigger John Deere because in a heavy growth timber such as ours, it is easier to get around with and does less damage to the remaining forest.
Nice video Gary. Great skidder. The lifting power and quick movement of the grapple, with the truck just above idle. Amazing. Lots of firewood there. 👍🏻👍🏻👋👋🪓🪵🔥 Have a great day Gary. 👋👋
Thanks Dave. Indeed they are good. They make me look like such an amateur it’s downright embarrassing! It’s just the 2 guys on the logging crew. Kenny is the owner and Jake is the lumberjack. The trucking is independent of them. He was pretty ranged good too though. Pretty impressive loading skills.
Right up my alley there... Mack truck with a Serco loader, sweet... Those loaders are made just SW of me in Two Harbors, MN, I knew the founder of the company, he's long past on. ... I've spent many a hour on a cable skidder " tow'n the line"......Love it, Thanks Gary.
Good day Gary. It's a terrible time for ash trees. I was told by a logger that ash lumber is a favorite of Amish furniture manufacturers. They like it for its straight grain and stability. It moves very little once it is dried. It also makes a good firewood. Thanks for showing your ash harvest. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers
Thanks Bob. Hadn’t heard that about the Amish furniture making. We were fortunate to have a market for it. I look for that to come to an end soon because of the sheer volume of ash trees in this part of the country. None of these trees are going to escape this. Every ash tree in my woods has been infected and killed by this. The real kicker is this emerald ash borer beetle… comes from China!
Enjoyed the video Gary! That sure was a big elm. Nothing pulls logs like a skidder. The truck and trailer with the cherry picker is the same setup we use in our area. They do flipp over on the logging roads. Thanks for sharing!
Well Paul, I sure thought that he was going over. That’s why I leave all of this to the pros. They do the impossible every day. Thanks for watching Paul
Thanks Robin That was pretty frigging impressive. More talent there with those guys than you can shake a stick at… and there are plenty of sticks to be found now!!! Thanks for watching
The one @3:14 was HUGE 😳👍🏻. I had the same reaction when the truck was leaving... tippy tippy 😳🥴. It's unfortunate how one little bug can do so much damage 😢. Have a great Wednesday Gary 🙋🏼♂🙂
Thank you Luc. Indeed! I thought the truck was going over! Once the skidder caught up to him though, everything was fine. Kenny had to pour on the coal to catch him. He was wide open in 4th gear and not narrowing the gap one bit til the truck started spinning in the gateway!
Got em! Now to wait for it to quit raining so we can get them hauled out. They have to come out through a pretty precarious spot, tippy and steep. Plus we have to drive across the neighbors field who is kind enough to let us do it. Don’t want to mess up my good neighborly relationship! Thanks for watching Dan
Hello Gary, A great video! It's a shame to see all the ash trees dying. That guy loading up the logs wasn't fooling around. It wasn't his first day. Watching the log truck leave was a bit nerve racking on that side hill lol. Thanks for sharing.
Well if that first tree isn’t a Bee’s 🐝 Knee 😂 Such a shame about so many Ash trees having to go for being dead, but man did it make the job manageable with the beast equipment 👍🏻 Always so amazing to watch and see in action and witness their great power
Hi Gary. It would be so cool to see that up close and personal like that. I enjoyed that a lot! Are we going to see some Tractor Talk with Gary logging With the Kubota and the grapple when they are all done? I am sure there are a lot of tree tops to clean up.
Thanks Bob I thought that very same thing. I even told him that he did really well for his first day. He said Yeah, but it was his third load for the 1st day 😊
How's she goin'? Nice to see guys doing what they do best eh! Imagine how long it would take to bring that wood out without that gear? Thanks for sharing Gary. Take 'er easy!!
Thanks Mike. Always appreciate it when you stop by the channel. These loggers are really good. It has been great just to watch them work.z but now comes my part. The clean up!
That was a great video Gary! I just loved that content. I wonder how much of those logs are going to be milled? Maybe it's time for you to get your own sawmill???
I think nearly every bit of this is going for pallets. Very little value in it but some is better than none. Plus, I have only the tops to deal with and not the logs. That is a plus!
Up here, ash is commonly referred to as “ poor man’s oak” However, the demand for oak has dropped so drastically that it is nearly worthless right now. Basswood is bringing more than oak!

Everything about these guys is impressive!

The Emerald Ash borer really reeked havoc. I think it was 3 years ago when we started hearing about it.
Thank you Gary.
Thanks Bryce

I wonder if the buyer of the pallets made from these logs will call out Northeast Iowa for sharing emerald ash borer with them?

These are all going to be made into pallets Ed. Don't need to be long for that.
@@tractortalkwithgary1271 true.. you said they were dead, I suppose that's why pallets don't last long anymore...

Good morning Jan!
It certainly is! That thing is amazing!
Nice watching that line skidder. Been a lot of years since chokers were used up here.
Their big skidder is a grapple.
Kenny said this Timberjack is much easier to get around in heavy timber like we have.
