Just wanted to say that I watched this video three weeks ago and then the Gary yourofsky speech that Jona mentioned, and since then I became a strict vegan. Thank you a lot for posting this video and for spreading the awareness :)
Brilliant video. Such an important point about parents not being supportive. Slowly since stopping eating meat my family have become more supportive but at first it took a lot of me repeating myself and how serious I was about it. Nowadays they even have a couple of vegan meals a week even through I don't live there.
***** I just wanna call you an intolerant fuck, how is that condescending comment justified? Let him do his thing and you do yours, don't try and shove your shit down other people's throats.
I loved the taste of a lot of meat. i didn't go vegan because i didn't like eating meat, i went vegan because it is better for my health, better for our environment, and i was strongly against cruelty to animals. there are many MANY meat alternatives which are delicious and readily available, which i now much prefer to meat.
Jona Weinhofen how this might be good for yours health when every vegan suffers from vitamins deficits and must be using artificial sources? i feel very sorry for animals in big death camps and i belive that cause of that crulety is change in lifestyle. when people started to move to cities more, there was less and less country man that breeded thier animals in environment that was much better than natural. if i was a pig i would rather die by hit to the head then beign riped by pack of wolfes.
Dupmann Vegans don't always suffer from vitamin deficiencies, that's a rare occurrence. And a lot of vegan foods have the most amount of protein in them, i.e. beans, tofu, tempeh. The whole idea that we need so much protein from meat, protein drinks and milk is made up. That much animal protein is bad for us, and is the reason diseases like cancer are caused. Do some research into it, and you will understand the health benefits - I recommend you watch a few documentaries like Fat Sick and Nearly Dead, Food Inc, and maybe Earthlings.
Love that The Getaway Plan feature at the start of this ☺️ I love being Vegan, just making the change seems difficult, but it's not that much of a sacrifice if you're doing it for the right reasons 😌
This dude has good morals about animals etc. though he should do more research about globalisation, the loss of energy when we feed our fish crops with smaller fish and so forth. i am a meat eater but what really got me thinking was the fact that 40% of the worlds total grain production goes to animal craftfoods and 90% of that energy will be lost and only 10% will turn into actual flesh, yet 20-60 million people die every year. Also it takes about 100 000 litres of physical and virtual water to produce 1 kilogram of meat. which can produce far more beans and pulses etc... Hope to meet this dude some day!
The Best Speech Ever (Gary Yourofsky), Forks Over Knives, Earthlings. Then there's Vegucated, The Ghost In Our Machine, Blackfish, The Cove, Live and Let Live, Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs and Wear Cows (Melanie Joy speech) and Animals Should Be Off the Menu (Philip Wollen speech). And probably lots more.
My parents made me quit being a vegetarian. They said they wouldn't buy my vegetables or other things so I had to and survive on basically one meal a day, then my money ran out and they refused to feed me until I agreed to eat meat, I lasted a week and three days without eating but damn... I feel so bad eating meat. I try to eat as little as possible but now I'm not allowed to cook for myself, so...
going vegan is hard as fuck, im vegetarian, have been for a year and a half, and i don't regret anything, i love this life, but going vegan without being vegetarian is suicidal, cuz your body is not ready. i tried going vegan but i couldn't, its hard, and i love cheese xD
My whole disagreement stems from when you meet a vegan they view themselves as above you just because they're vegan. People seem to be more attracted (unconsciously) to the ego you acquire from being vegan than actual veganism itself. They substitute treating animals like shit to treating people like shit. I don't know if I've only met the outliers that don't represent the community or what, but those people have made it repulsive for a lot of people. My take on the whole endeavor. In no way am I calling this the vegan community as a whole
My chickens live better then i do, i dont see why i should throw my eggs away. I think we just need to change the way we do things, alot of mass produced food is wasted, i think if we cut it down it would be less cruel. Most meat in the supermarket is discarded after a while cause there is so much of it. When my family came from norway they were shocked to see how much food there was in grocery stores.
I would go vegan but its to hard to be vegan in my country because vegan products aren't that common and the ones that are available are expensive and as a student i wouldn't be able to finance it . But i really wish i could.
Most vegans don't eat fancy vegan products; they eat vegetables, fruits, all sorts of grains (rice, quinoa, oats, amaranth etc), legumes, nuts and seeds, pasta and so much more. And tofu can be found pretty much everywhere.
If you're talking about mock meats and cheese, I hardly eat that stuff. It's all about eating actual whole plant foods. Meals like pasta, mexican food, soups, pies, rice meals, all that stuff, with lots of vegetables. Fruits, nuts and grains all that as well. For me mock meats and cheeses are a "sometimes" food.
Even the common things are kind of expensive and explaining that to my parents even though I'm 21is hard .They wouldn't support it no matter what i said i think for now the best thing i can do is try to do it on my own and like try to avoid products as much as i can until i live on my own.
because it makes a point about what you stand for and believe in strongly and passionately. if can't commit to labelling yourself when it is something you take a very strong stance about, then you can appear wishy-washy. this is just my opinion anyway
Jonah thank you for being such a positive inspiration :D I recently turned vegetarian and hope to one day have the strength to become a vegan \m/ Also, can't wait for the new album!!
I wasn't meaning it negatively jona, I've just noticed an increase in people labeling themselves with alot of ist isms istics and whatnot, i can see how labeling yourself as a vegan as weight because its not just a diet, its just hard for me to go vegan cause i have my own opinions and views and vegetarian works for me.
are you gonna make your children be vegan Jona Weinhofen? as humans we've been eating meat for thousands of years and need meat for brain development or is that something else we've been brainwashed with. there are ethical farms out there that treat their animals well and when it comes to slaughter its done properly so the animal is put down with the least amount of stress and discomfort. I'm from a small country town and have no problem in killing an animal myself to get the meat. i also grow my own fruit and vegetables, i love vegetables but i also love meat. you will never convince me to become vegan. i eat meat and am against animal cruelty, you may find that hard to believe but its true. p.s. i used to live in adelaide as well and went to a lot of shows, punk gigs, metal gigs, straight edge gigs, and i must say i will never become straight edge either. fuck those shows were boring as, just stand and watch not my cup tea, i love beer. that is all bye bye.
Damien Hunt when it comes to slaughterhouses or just killing animals in general, remember this: there is no such thing as humanely killing something that didn't want to die in the first place.
I'll probably go vegan once I bulk and stop giving a fuck about nutrition in general...probably in my mid to late 40s when this starts happening lol...
Congrats Jona for being proud of your belief, but maybe some people are happy with their lifestyle. Dude, Don't shove your beliefs down peoples throats if they aren't open to it. I'm not vegan but I have friends who are and we go our ways with food etc. You don't need to have a big spazz on people who love fucking lasagne. please why can't we just all get along.
I say let people go their own ways, show them a little insight but don't make out that this is the "better" way of life just cos you live a different lifestyle. Thats what it is. Its different and everyone is allowed that. If I have kids and they wanna be vegan or do something that is other then my own then I would support the hell outta them. It goes the same for gay marriage. If you support then do it as best as you can but if you don't then don't have a gay marriage or attend one. I idol Jona as a person and a guitarist, I don't live the same lifestyle and nor do I intend to. I'm proud that he wears his lifestyle proudly. But its just all the hate needs to stop from both sides. P.S- off topic, when I seen this notification from you I shat bricks.
A lot of people are happy and content with their lifestyles, like a CEO whose company exploits sweatshop workers in Bangladesh. That doesn't mean that it's not a great injustice or that people shouldn't fight to change it. People have fought, been ridiculed and died for the causes they believed in for centuries, and today we are grateful that they didn't stop fighting just because it made the establishment and the people who were content uncomfortable. Some things should be absolute, like human rights, animal rights, women's rights and gay rights. And we're not there yet, which is why some people keep shouting from the roof tops that what's going on in the world is wrong. And these are the people who contribute to progress and to a better world. The people who are ignorant and content and shy away from the truth contribute to nothing. That being said, I don't see how Jona "shoves his beliefs down people's throats"; this is an interview about his beliefs and his lifestyle and why he feels it's the right way to live. If people get offended by that, then maybe they should ask themselves why. PS. No need to shit bricks. ;)
And actually seriously?! You could see it was about veganism and you probably knew he is passionate about it, so if you also know you aren't open to this, you should consider not to watch those videos. Also because he doesn't "shove his beliefs down people's throats".
Im not really sure I've ever 'had a big spazz' at someone. and if the topic in question were one where there was no negative impact on either side, then i would definitely agree on an 'each to their own' policy. but the fact is there are so many negatives associated with an omnivorous lifestyle (cruelty, environmental problems, human health problems, poverty etc) that i just try to promote the most positive lifestyle choices there are. discussing a topic on a video which is optional to click and watch isn't preaching.
Every time you buy food at a grocery store, you are making a vote, you don't get to choose whether or not you get to make an impact, only whether that impact will be positive or negative
Bronwyn Galbraith Is that a quote from a vegan activist or did you come up with that? if you came up with that id like you to know that it's brilliant.
Thanks, Jona - I could think of many good reasons for you to speak to youth group about being a vegan! Just to throw in my own experience, many ask if I miss eating ice cream, desserts, cheese, etc. I usually tell them that I don't miss any of those, nor do I miss out anything. The thought of knowing these farm animals are living in hell and are suffering every second of everyday immediately extinguish my desire to simply satisfy my hunger.
The world need more people like Jona. Such an inspiring human
Are you realy Jona? :O
Just wanted to say that I watched this video three weeks ago and then the Gary yourofsky speech that Jona mentioned, and since then I became a strict vegan. Thank you a lot for posting this video and for spreading the awareness :)
Arnaud M That's great :D
I just ate a beef burger soooo good
I have been a vegan for 7 months now and your one of my biggest inspirations. Thank you for everything you do. Much love from the US.
Im so stoked for this video!
Great interview with an important topic. I would love to see more videos from PitCam about veganism/vegetarianism in the music community. Loved this!
Thank you PitCam.TV and Jona for this cool Interview

This is by far one of my fave videos on UA-cam. :)
love this video
Been vegetarian for 8 years now (since i was 11) but im thinking of becoming vegan after this.

I love this video!

I could never be vegan, I like meat too much. Much props to the vegans out there with the dedication to what they believe in.

Wow have you talked to your parents since?
I tried it when I was in my 20s it made me very sick! I'm paleo now and all my health issues have been resolved!
going vegan is hard as fuck, im vegetarian, have been for a year and a half, and i don't regret anything, i love this life, but going vegan without being vegetarian is suicidal, cuz your body is not ready. i tried going vegan but i couldn't, its hard, and i love cheese xD
I've been vegetarian for a year and the vast majority of my meals are vegan anyway.
and look at how much veganism has grown since the 4 years that this video was made!
@concepts 2.0 Lets eat each other
Now, I am no Vegan. No way. But I really respect him for following something he thinks benefits animals.

Why is the interviewer not looking at Jona but up at the ceiling? It's weird. He's a great guy though, very relaxed and not judgmental.
It's the fisheye camera.

Your body is your temple. Why would you modify it by permanently inking it?
his body is his temple, why wouldn't he ? ,should we all be just like you ?
tattooing been practiced for more than 5000 years , get another topic to argue on
Bibi Landin even temples have stained glass decorations.
I have a tattoo want more but I don't have the money
