Raid leaders LISTEN UP if you want your "PROGS" to progress faster!

  • "PROG" is generally a term used for a Group trying to "progress" through the achievement list or even perhaps a first completion over time of instanced content in The Elder Scrolls Online. Yet so many FAIL.
    WHY do they fail?
Apart from extreme gatekeeping culture and fake expectations before actually TRYING the content " or else", while wasting weeks of mindless edgy meme spamming in NSFW discord channels until people inevitably fall out and make a NEW guild with the same people on facebook...
The biggest issue is the raid leader thinks they NEED to give ALL the details at ONCE!
Every single intricate detail... You don't. Just because you are in charge doesn't mean you have to over sell it. It's great if you "know everything" but it's no good expecting everyone else to think the same as you. Leave your ego at the door and understand even a 5 year old knows how to "find a space on the carpet". You don't need to explain what the carpet is made of, where it came from, which leg should go over the other when crossing, it's too much! "See that carpet? Sit there" IS the approach you should be taking.
Explain the basics in the SIMPLEST of forms, the rest is fluff.
Over time people can develop an interest for the intricacies of what they are learning. But to start with, if you want to get something done, keep it SIMPLE. The longer it takes to explain, the LESS people in the room are listening.
They are nodding and agreeing, but they didn't hear a WORD you just said.
You don't need to take 6 weeks to kill a boss "because it is hard" when you can explain it much simpler in one sitting.
I have proven this multiple times ON stream in front of a LIVE audience and it is a FACT. The simpler and quicker you explain something, the less time you waste doing nothing! the less people switch off, and the less people are confused with overloading of details.
There is NO progress if you don't know where to start ;)

Was thinking about this last night watching your BFG video - I appreciate you so much not only bc you explain WHY we do stuff and HOW to do it - but you also have a rare gift for doing so clearly, concisely, and efficiently!

I've absolutely known raid leads like this. Not only am I going to get bored, but if it's my first time, I'm going to lose track of all the details. Tell me the bare bones, let's try it so I can get a feel for it, then we'll correct any issues.

Raid lead: spends 15 minutes going over mechs for first boss ndsr
*Turns into the worst pull you’ll ever see in a ndsr*

I can relate lol. I feel explain a lil bit then run it. Sometimes just seeing it first will make more sense later lol.

This is more true the more people you have.
Explain more when more explanation is needed, that’s it

As a wow raid leader I would explain brief mechanics in under a minute and then do epic call outs mid raid to teach the fight. Even freshies would get it down and the raid next week would be 1 shots.

Too true! And then get mad because you followed “their” direction and it’s your fault.

I remember I used to just walk away for a beer during raid explanations. A simple explanation or a diagram to see is good enough.

TRUTH!! I hate the EXTENSIVE mech discussions! I’d rather die trying to win, and then learn from my death… THAN try to keep up with ALL the things that were said over a 30 minute monologue 😳

Yeah raid leaders always want to over complicate things when explaining i think they just love the sound of there own voice
