- Phases of mitosis:This animation demonstrates the stages of mitosis in an animal cell.
Mitosis is the process in which a eukaryotic cell nucleus splits in two, followed by division of the parent cell into two daughter cells. The word "mitosis" means "threads," and it refers to the threadlike appearance of chromosomes as the cell prepares to divide. Early microscopists were the first to observe these structures, and they also noted the appearance of a specialized network of microtubules during mitosis. These tubules, collectively known as the spindle, extend from structures called centrosomes - with one centrosome located at each of the opposite ends, or poles, of a cell. As mitosis progresses, the microtubules attach to the chromosomes, which have already duplicated their DNA and aligned across the center of the cell. The spindle tubules then shorten and move toward the poles of the cell. As they move, they pull the one copy of each chromosome with them to opposite poles of the cell. This process ensures that each daughter cell will contain one exact copy of the parent cell DNA.
Interphase: Cells may appear inactive during this stage, but they are quite the opposite. This is the longest period of the complete cell cycle during which DNA replicates, the centrioles divide, and proteins are actively produced. For a complete description of the events during Interphase, read about the Cell Cycle.
Prophase: During this first mitotic stage, the nucleolus fades and chromatin (replicated DNA and associated proteins) condenses into chromosomes. Each replicated chromosome comprises two chromatids, both with the same genetic information. Microtubules of the cytoskeleton, responsible for cell shape, motility and attachment to other cells during interphase, disassemble. And the building blocks of these microtubules are used to grow the mitotic spindle from the region of the centrosomes.
Prometaphase: In this stage the nuclear envelope breaks down so there is no longer a recognizable nucleus. Some mitotic spindle fibers elongate from the centrosomes and attach to kinetochores, protein bundles at the centromere region on the chromosomes where sister chromatids are joined. Other spindle fibers elongate but instead of attaching to chromosomes, overlap each other at the cell center.
Metaphase: Tension applied by the spindle fibers aligns all chromosomes in one plane at the center of the cell.
Anaphase: Spindle fibers shorten, the kinetochores separate, and the chromatids (daughter chromosomes) are pulled apart and begin moving to the cell poles.
Telophase: The daughter chromosomes arrive at the poles and the spindle fibers that have pulled them apart disappear.
Cytokinesis: The spindle fibers not attached to chromosomes begin breaking down until only that portion of overlap is left. It is in this region that a contractile ring cleaves the cell into two daughter cells. Microtubules then reorganize into a new cytoskeleton for the return to interphase.

Fiza Sheikh
yes really
Exactly!!
This video tells us how important it is to understand visually.
Which standard?
I disagree, some people such as myslef are visual learners. In my case, even if I understand Mitosis in general terrms , this video helps me understand the memorize the phases in detail.
@@togekissbliss the comment says it's important to study visually and you say your a visual learner so how do you disagree?👀
yeah same, I'm in 8th grade and the video that our teachers give to us was hella boring full of letters and not giving visual examples.
@@togekissbliss myself* terms*
Interphase: Resting phase
Prophase: Chromosome formation takes place with two daughter chromatids attached at the centromere
Metaphase : chromosomes get attched to the spindle fibres and are aligned in the equater
Anaphase: Sister chromatids split apart and start to move away from each other at the opposite poles
Telophase: chromosomes reach opposite poles and nuclear membrane reappears around each group of chromosome
Cytokinesis: formation of two niclie followed by the division of cytoplasm
I think Interphase could be better explained:
- It is also the part where the genetic material of the cell increases.
Since many people are confused, How fixed amount of chromatids could yield two sets of cells with the same number of chromatids each as the parent cell. It is because the genetic material increases in number in the interphase.
But, Brilliant Conclusion bro.

For which class
*PLEASE NOTE* that plant cells go through mitosis without centrioles helping to divide the chromosomes, instead, they have spindal fibres OUTSIDE the nuclear membrane. Also, plant cell mitosis go through a different form of cytokinesis, instead of dividing cell membrane, plant cells add a cell wall between the 2 daughter cells and separate them.
...why?

Note :The cell plate formation starts from middle of equatorial plate and it grows towards the periphery of the cell.
(Correction at : 3:20 in " plant cell division "part of the video)
This is in case of plants. In animals furrow is formed which means it cleaves the cell from periphery to inside.

Hello my dear little scientist! If cells replace with new ones, why do tattoes remain forever? Why the paint on those tree barks in park remains there?
@@GreenMagic0 The paint on tree barks remain because the outer bark is made up of dead tissue , thus outer bark cells don't divide. As the bark mature due to thickening of cork cambium, there is insufficiency of water supply and nutrition ,the cells there become much old ,non functional and eventually die.Thickening of cork cambium takes place as a result of secondary growth in dicot plants.
Next about retaining of tattoo ink,it is as a response of immune system. When the needle is injected with ink, our immune system detects the ink as an unknown external substance unsuitable for our body,so macrophages (a type of white blood cells that eat up such foreign substances by phagocytosis) gather at the spot of tattoo and try to digest the ink, but they fail to do so, so they just absorb it and store it in their vacuoles and when these macrophages die, the ink liberated from them is again absorbed by new neighbouring macrophages. So this is how the ink is retained.
